    [Pre Order] Kobo Libra Colour

    With wings ?

    • 😂. I have Lenny Kravitz Fly away playing in the background

The page you are trying to access no longer exists or has been moved.
Try searching for a book below or return home.

  • Very interested, does this brand have a good build quality?

    • +4

I have used 2 kobos since more than 4 years. Never a problem. The big advantage is that you are able to borrow from the local libraries. It is better than using the kindle and paying for kindle books all the time.

I've had my Kobo Aura HD since like 2013. Been in my backpack everyday for the last 2 years. Hiked new Zealand and WA with it. Still going strong. I always have it in a protective case. (Replaced the battery myself, dunno if you can do that with the newer models.)

I don't know if their build quality has deteriorated since then. Mine still gets software updates! (Or did when I last tried a year or two ago.)

      • Do NOT update it! It bricked mine last year!

        • Oh shit ok thanks hahahaha

    • Kobo is my favourite e-reader brand. That being said make sure you know the drawbacks of Colour eink (Kaleido 3) before making a purchase.

  • I'm so happy coloured ebooks are coming out! I just wish buying on say Kindle didn't lock me into that ecosystem (without using Calibre ig).

I totally get you.I was about to join the kindle bandwagon years ago and bought kobo instead.

      • +1

I totally understand why you'd think so! I did too for a long while.
But honestly, it just isn't the same. The ebooks really do feel more "book" like to read, which makes reading easier for me.

          • @jv: Boox and Supernote have micro SD expansion and cloud storage on their current models, plus the ability to load the kindle app. It's much nicer to read on e-Ink. The tech is getting there

            • @Nubbin: I am discussing the Kobo.

    • The code expired. I tried it

  • Anybody knows if this works with google drive hosted calibre library?

I have my calibre library hosted on google drive, and would love to access it on a proper ebook reader as well.

Kobo is a lot more open than a kindle.

      • Great. That was very helpful. Thanks

But can't view books from your Kindle library.

    • +3

I can't speak for Google drive hosted libraries but another option, although not for the technically faint of heart, is to setup Calibre-Web which has support for syncing your Kobo device. Your Calibre library then syncs to the Kobo daily as part of the built in daily sync from the Kobo store

Disclaimer: No idea if this would work with these specific devices as they're new but works great on my Libre 2.

      • This is the way. Set it up for my partner a few weeks ago and can't wait to join in on the fun too.

Infact I think this is perhaps one of the only methods that would not be broken due to a new/different model. The store sync works the same on all models, it's not like the API changes.

Please post more of this product's deals as this price is still too expensive for an ebook beginner like me, would love to buy one at the Booktopia price.

So long time ago I had a 1st gen Kobo and I could copy epubs straight from my laptop. Can this still be done on these latest Kobo readers, or do I need to go via google drive?

    • +2

My first ereader was a Sony.. But to answer your question, you can absolutely transfer books from you laptop. Calibre is probably the only book syncing software and library organizer out there and works well with Kobo. For the Google drive option, I believe that is a more complicated solution.

    • +1

Yes you can drag and drop epubs, according to the Kobo website.

I wondered the same thing because I want to keep it completely off the grid (no wifi, no Bluetooth).

  • Invalid code, not sure what I am missing, added code on payment screen

    • I think it must have expired. I put it in a couple of hours ago and it worked, then went away to have a think, and now it doesn't work.

Tried this new code: BGLRBPI10, seems to be working the same. Not sure how long this will last?

        • Thanks. Confirmed the new code works.

        • Thanks, bought one.

          • @recession1: Did you receive your new kobo?

            • @Raj09: Nope not shipped yet. Someone on the other booktopia deal said they called and were told they won’t have stock until at least Friday, so don’t expect to receive it until next week.

Pretty annoying that a preorder isn’t ready on day one when we could just walk into JB and buy one yesterday.

              • @recession1: Hmm I just got this response.

Our supplier has recently advised that there is a stock delay affecting these items.
Unfortunately, they are unable to provide a firm date as to when it will be resolved, hence we are unable to provide an ETA as well.
I'm really sorry that these are not going to ship in the timeframe we originally advised.

                • @recession1: Hmm that’s really annoying.

I’m in the same boat. I was wondering why their release was a day late to everybody and then wondering now why it hasn’t shipped.

I tried asking JB to price match but they said not current price nor can match coupons.

Hope they ship tomorrow on Friday.

                • @recession1: Actually - did you buy the Libra or Clara?

Kobo is acknowledging stock shortage for the Clara.

              • @recession1: Same. I am pretty annoyed as well. JB has it in stock so whats the use of pre-order if you have to wait even more and be back in the queue?
