Home Office Chair Recommendations Melbourne - Budget $1000

Hi all, looking to buy a new home office chair but I want to try before buying. Budget is around $1000.

Currently using a Ergohuman Premium Fit IOO Executive but the seat gets uncomfortable after using for a few hours.

Any place in Melbourne (North) where I can try out some different options under one roof?

Any recommendations?

TIA

Back care and seating in Carlton North have a decent showroom selection + options under your budget. I paid ~600 for an anatome luxe fit for a home office a few years ago and have been very happy. YMMV

    aeron chair

    • If it's a mid back chair, I use Costco $250 mesh chair that I think somewhat looks like an Aeron chair. I love it.

Looks good from far, but far from good

      • How long have you had it?

I just checked the manufacturing label under my Aeron- 2011. It's been used every day, and my kids used to spin around in it.

Checking the actual receipt it's called Mesh Office Chair $199 (probably special) - on Feb 2021.There is a stamp marked 2020 under the chair.

        • Mine is from 2013 had some guy come last year come “service it” replaced a broken bolt for $135
          Feels the same otherwise.

          I paid $1200 back then

          • @Wiadro: I'm only mentioning this because it's in the theme of the site- mine was free :)

            Won it in a raffle.

I've found it about the same in comfort as the less fancy Mirra chairs. Which go for 300-400 used.

Can you also give us a link to buy a time machine so OP can travel back to when Aerons were $1000?

I consider myself lucky to have picked up a couple for $1100 from this sale in 2019, but the current RRP of $3195 is ridiculous.

      • Very easy to find used ones for under 1k
Just check the manufacturing date. Try get one made in 2010 or newer.

Go to the Haworth showroom and see if you like any of the chairs. Then buy the expensive one from officeworks with all your discounted gift cards or stocked up flybuys points.

I got a Steelcase Leap 2 for just over $1k. Worth trying at least.

I have got the same one for about a year very happy with it.

    • Same here, but I've had issues with the seat back being "twisted" for lack of a better description, with the back offering more support on one side than the other, due to the way the tensioning mechanism travels from bottom right to top left when one is seated.

Do you notice any asymmetry in the back rest position or tension?

Currently getting a warranty repair / replacement

      • Not that I've noticed. I don't have the greatest posture normally.

Check out Humanscale and Haworth chairs they have some around $1k. They are used in offices. You also may not like the mesh bottom on chairs like me, I had an ergohuman before and I think its just higher spec cheap junk out of china.

I haven't tested a lot of chairs before but the comfiest chair I've ever sat in was a Steelcase. There's a showroom in South Melbourne I think, might be worth checking out.
