  • I'm not sure they are related to total tools in any way

    • Hmm thought they were or maybe I'm thinking of some other duo. Removed.

Trade Tools is an independent company in QLD, no franchises, owned by one man (I think he's on the gold coast). He owns the cheap Renegade brand. I think every store has a workshop too. One nice thing is the keep your sales history online forever. There seems to be a lot of brand loyalty as its run like a business and not a franchise.

seriously why now, I waited 1 year for a special and then went out and got everything.
Wonder if i can price match with sydney tools or total tools and have a backup set.

  • Toooo far

  • Other EGO dealers must have kicked up a stink about them. I got a Brushcutter years ago and a chainsaw more recently off them, delivered to NSW at stupid prices.

  • Even at these prices it seems expensive to get into the ecosystem. Case scenario, I'm after a self propelled electric mower, the entry with Ego is $1,299. To look at the multi tool head (for the 5Ah battery) without any attachments is still $315.
I've read about issues when it comes to claiming Ego warranty with battery degradation. Sounds similar to Milwaukee's high drain problems.
In comparison Greenworks current redemption offers much better value, but still a decent cost to get in to a new ecosystem.
What's the reasoning of the common Ego ozbargainers to buy in?

Have the multihead with polesaw, hedgetrimmer and whipper snipper, plus the bigger blower and 3 x 5Ah and 1 x 2.5Ah batteries. Since 2019, and both inverters since. Two of the 5Ah batteries I got as freebies on an Ego promotion for purchasing over a certain amount, but did remember splitting receipts to do that.

Multihead was the attraction, along with the extension poles. Not sure if there was much competition back then, but reviews led me to Ego.

Polesaw only thing that I've had issue with - internal circlip holding the chain tensioner in popped off, causing chain to lose tension and come off, losing the circlip holding the chain sprocket. Requested Ego Australia send me a new circlip under warranty but "we don't cover lost items", so that's the mentality you're dealing with.

Did have to buy a new pressure washer recently and really wanted the Ego one as it's impressive, but it'll probably take Ego Australia a year or two to get it here going by other things.

My battery issue was something to do with the controller, the cells reported as ok but after a short time using it would flash red and stop. Ego use third party repairers, when I took to them, he saw that it was the controller as all cells reported ok. He had a new battery from a mower that had been returned open but unused and offered me that or said I could wait from one shipped from Ego, said it could take 2-4 weeks. I took the one he had and its been fine. I don't use the fast charger and always wait for the battery to cool before charging.

  • Is it worth upgrading from a 36v Ryobi whipper snipper to the ego line trimmer?

    • -2

Apart from Ozito, everything else is an upgrade from Ryobi.

      • +1

That doesn’t mean it’s worth the upgrade though.

    • +1

I won’t recommend doing it just for the line trimmer in this deal, it’s one of the weakest ones in the ego brand. The upgraded models are something else, maybe there will be some eofy sales in them

    • +4

Once you've used the EGO power load feature you'll never use another whipper snipper again. :)

    • +1

I used the Ego base model line trimmer (same as this deal) and the 36v Ryobi line trimmer back to back a few months back. I'd say they had very similar amounts of power, but I liked the ergonomics/balance of the Ego more.

I don't think it would be a big upgrade for you.

    • Yes, IMHO from trying the Stihl, Milwaukee and now Ego whipper snippers, the Ego is FAR superior. But I have only used the best one (ST1624E-T) with the line IQ auto feeder.

  • How is this so cheap? Has anyone bought from there before? No stores in NSW

    • I've bought a few things from them - including fairly big ticket items - have never had any issues.

    • Bought an ego line trimmer from them. No issues.

    • Actually there is a NSW store -Tweed Heads.

Multi head with the battery is good value considering the battery alone is more expensive.

I have the whipper snippet, chainsaw, mower and blower. They are all pretty good, the mower I have to cut the grass longer or it bogs down.

My first battery died but was replaced under warranty. So far it's been OK. Coming up to the 3yr mark

    • Great feedback, would be great to get your opinion on my comment.

    • +1

I believe there is a new multihead that’s just been released with updated attachments.

      • Yes, it was released last year, but they have only just received stock. It has more power than the last multi head.

  • Good deal. In store only.
For ego make sure you have at least 5A battery

    • Nah I've got a 2.5 amp here and use it on our 1 acre property. And that's shared between a whipper-snipper, chainsaw and hedge trimmer. The only time I've run out of juice is when using the chainsaw for extended periods on harder wood. Still would be nice to get a spare battery but I've never seen them on special.

      • +2

Your grass made of fairy floss? I’ve got a 7.5Ah and run dry on a 700sqm block if it gets a bit long. (Edit: oh, no mower. My bad.)

The 2.5Ah is great for all handheld attachments - good mix of weight and runtime.

Best way to get another battery is buy a discounted kit with bonus battery promo. Bonus if you need the gear but sell it on GumFace if you don’t.

      • +1

Agreed. I have a stack of 2.5ah which are perfect for blowing, line trimmer and multi tool use. I only pull out the 10ah for lawn mowing. 5ah would be too heavy for and hand held tools, and would make my line trimmer too back heavy

The multi tool with extension poles are already quite heavy with a 2.5ah

        • The point is not using a multi tool. It's heavy. 2.5Ah battery is light, but the power is so weak. Try a 5Ah on a line trimmer and you will find a significant difference

  • Good deal for good gear

Never seen any multi tool attachments on sale though

    • +1

I hear you. I want a line trimmer attachment. About $230 for the old 38cm rapid reload one. Or $250 for the new 40cm powerload one that still works with my older multi head but the powerload function won't.

Or, I could get the 33cm stand alone line trimmer skin on sale for just $99.50! Seems silly.

  • Depending on what you’re after, there are some good prices here. I purchased a few multi tool attachments. Excellent service, posted out same day or next day.

They are getting out of domestic and focussing on commercial EGO.

    • You're talking about a different company? I suspect TradeTools is clearing out superseded models.

  • $99.50 EGO 56V 330mm Brushless Cordless 2-Speed Line Trimmer Skin - ST1300E
    WAS $199.00 SAVE $99.50

It looks very cheap. I have ego blower and trimmer. Looking to purchase Line trimmer. I have a 5Ah battery, can this use the same battery? I saw it only mention 2.5ah battery running time and say nothing about 5ah. Is this machine good for normal house using?

    • Yeah, will work with 5ah, just adds a little extra weight compared to the 2.5ah battery.
These line trimmers are fine for light domestic use, especially lawns. Struggles a bit with tough or long weeds

    • Yes, the 5ah will work fine. It's plenty good enough for residential yard work.

  • Still trying to decide between the commerical carbon polesaw for $599 with a 5AH Battery vs this old domestic series for $440 with a 2.5AH hmmm

    • Tricky. I wouldn’t want a 5ah on my polesaw but the new multi tool skin looks very nice. Buy both and sell the old skin and 5ah battery.

  • I have nearly the whole lot.
Mower, Blower, Brushcutter, Carbon Fibre trimmer, Chainsaw, Multi head with Trimmer, Edger, Hedger, couple of chargers and 6 batteries.

Both chargers have been replaced and 4 of the batteries and i only use the stuff once a month if that.

The batteries still play up in summer due to heat, the mower is crap. All out of warranty now.

I only went EGO because Milwaukee dudnt have a mower back then.

Would go petrol if doing it all again.

  • Offer not available at some regional franchised stores. Only corporate based stores it seems.
