Samsung Response to My Samsung 21 Overheating

I would like to have some feedback please.

My Samsung 21 keeps overheating when using GPS and sometimes the camera. Not all the time but it is becoming more frequent.

Yesterday, I had the aircon on in the car, I used the GPS and straight away the mobile started to overheat, and the overheating message came up on the screen as well.

After a while the mobile disconnected from the in dash system.

I spoke to Samsung, the advice was to turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and only enable it when I need to use it.

Samsung 21 is not a budget device.

It is out of warranty (4 months) but should be covered under Australian consumer law (product fit for purpose).

Thanks guys.

You can try argue the 4 months out of warranty and go through all the complaints process, but it's Samsung, their service is one of the worst in Australia.

It's unlikely your bluetooth, mine is on 24/7 and no heating issues for the last 5 samsung models I have owned.

I highly suggest to back up your phone (prob use smart switch app for PC/MAC) then hard reset your phone then restore your back up file. Sometimes it's a software problem.

    Return to place of purchase

Samsung customer service is the reason why I left them.
They were the most useless company when it came to that.

Im with Apple now and yeah, if they do want treat me bad at least they can do it face to face and not in some Philippine warehouse.

  • Lol Samsung. Goodluck

If you have access to Samsung Edu store, trade it in and get the S24 for $700. You get 2x the storage (if you have 128Gb now) and 2 years warranty. I know you may have ACL rights, but I have done it and caused a lot of anxiety and stress during the process.

    • I have access to Samsung Edu. Is it only $700 to upgrade? Is that without discount coupons etc or do I need to stack?

      • +4

        S24 is $1049.25 on edu, S21 128GB in good condition is $115, Bonus $250 = $684.25

  • +2

I would just trade it in since it still has value for a different device, rather than putting up with it's shortcomings.

Samsung products are fine, but their post sales support is horrendous.

I spoke to Samsung, the advice was to turn off wifi and bluetooth and only enable it when I need to use it.

Case in point - that's a joke. Good luck OP.

    or, just buy an iPhone.

Make sure you don't have any apps in the background using up resources and heating up the phone, close all apps then open maps app.

Check you are on the latest firmware and map app version.

Check the sleeping apps / apps configured to never sleep, might be something rogue in there.

Worse case, back up and perform a factory reset. I would avoid using samsung switch as the issue could be replicated back on your phone after a restore.

  • I have similiar problems when using GPS for too long, it does that annoying thing where it switches to dark mode.

Their reply sounds like from their checklist of excuses they have to run through until you give up…

Basically means either we don't know, we do know but we are a big company so what you gonna do, or we dont give a shit and go away.

  • I too have an S21. As a three year old phone, any number of things may have happened to it that are either a direct consequence of your actions or are on the manufacturer to remedy. Have you determined what the cause of the issues is?

I hereby confess that I have not taken care off it properly.

I caused the overheating myself myself when I used GPS and forgot to turn off wifi and bluetooth.

Also, I fried and egg on it because of the high heat.

      • BTW, make sure you are the latest software released. My S21 (traded in for S22) was super hot randomly, and a software update fixed that. I just traded up afterwards anyways.

  • What was the temperature outside or in the car?

Sometimes my iPhone seems to overheat in the car on days that are in the high-20s. A message pops up to say that charging will resume once it cools down. Once the aircon is on (it's mounted in front of a vent) it takes a few minutes to cool down and then it's back to normal.

    • Outside 30. Inside the car, 20

      • That sounds about right. If you have it on the dash in the direct sun at the temperature, it'll definitely overheat. The aircon would cool it down easily if you have it mounted in front of a vent.

Samsung 21 is not a budget device.

Only applies to the first 3 months after release.

I'm going through ACCC and Office of Fair Trading at the moment for a Samsung sound bar.

Same fault twice and offered a 2nd repair, but a major fault entitles me to a refund :)

    They are fighting hard.

    • Good luck!! I've had issue with my Samsung Q990C where my rear and subwoofer keep getting disconnected after a couple of days, its not a dealbreaker but I paid for their premium product and expecting a premium experience. Having to reset and reconnect rear and subwoofer every week is just not a pleasant experience. I went to JB-hifi, they need to verify the fault on the spot even though I mentioned the disconnection issue happens after a couple of days(I've shown them a couple videos when it happened). They can't verify the fault, and they need to bring the soundbar to Samsung. Samsung basically told me they need to verify the fault on the spot and it will take a couple of weeks for them to get back to me. I just gave up.

Samsungs service response to my S20FE5g (bought from them direct) screen burn was that it was because of damage and not a defect. This was within 2 years of purchase and any theoretical warranty.
As such, I'm jumping the samsung bandwagon and will accept forgoing microsd (which newer ones don't even have as their USP any more) for a brand that is either cheaper for the same quality, or which stands by their product (not sure who that'd be!)

Samsungs CS lost them long term users in my family, might jump to iphone now they don't use ridiculously proprietary chargers, yes the $$ but they tend to work a long time for that.

  • I spoke to Samsung, the advice was to turn off wifi and bluetooth and only enable it when I need to use it.

Lol. Apple recommends leaving those on to save battery and help sync to your Watch.

  • I've had 2 Samsung Galaxy flagship phones.. both died soon after warranty.

Switched back to Apple but would have gone to Google if I wanted to stick with Android.

  • Mine s22 does that as well. When I'm playing my game the screen gets really hot, but I use a stylus. When I'm using the gps and the dash is in the sun it overheats as well. I find if I turn it on and off, it runs back to normal after

It’s a reminder that you must upgrade

The S24 Ultra has no such issues

Don’t be stingy on something you use all the time and need

  • I have decided to trade it in and get a new one.

I have received a voucher from Samsung that can be used when buying a new one.

Can I use that if I buy it using the Samsung Edu portal?

Any other ways I can reduce the price (codes, money that fell off a truck etc etc…)?

    • How did you a voucher from Samsung? How much is the voucher?

    • +4

They gave you a voucher so you would stop bothering them.
Unless the voucher is for the full purchase price of the phone, you got ripped off by yet more anti consumer practises from Samsung.

And you're.. Going to get another one? Jeez.

      • I think trade-in is the best solution. The phone is now 28 months old, if the problem didn't occur before now, then likely it's the battery needs to be replaced in which case it's not really Samsungs fault and it wouldn't be cost effective for the consumer to have it replaced.

If phone is in the sunlight on the dash, gps is on and screen is on then it would likely overheat after some time. If the phone is also charging then it will definitely overheat.

But it shouldn't be overheating just from using the camera.

    • +1

My first thought too. Phone sitting on mount in direct sunlight, max screen brightness, GPS, charging at the same time.

  • Chuck it into the freezer!
I do this every time the overheat message coms on on my S21.
The freezer has not yet caught fire….

  • The codes did not work for the Samsung Edu store…

I will wait for end of fin year sales instead. Should be some good deals coming my way…

  • Is your device mounted on the dash via glass suction cup OR via an AC vent mount?

either scenarios have there potential effects on the battery etc.
