Tried one of these kits a couple years ago and it simply didn’t compare to the native Philips Ambilight.

Couldn’t ever get rid of it on Marketplace so literally threw it in the bin.

Philips tvs and tech are great, this is not.

Yeah I had 2 native Ambilight TVs and they were perfect. Really a shame they don't make them anymore and force you to buy the Hue system separate. As for Govee, their recent versions (T2 I think?) have greatly improved. I have the 1st version, not perfect but still a nice touch, but agree, doesn't really compare to Ambilight.

      • Are you able to recommend which of the Hue for a 55” TV?

First time doing this so any guidance would be nice :)

        • +2

Sorry mate I never ventured on the Hue system myself, find it a bit too pricey. I just quickly Googled though and apparently they still make Ambilight TVs, so maybe you could go with one?

          • @thepurist: Thanks, I’m hoping to get one to hook it back on my Sony TV
Just wanted to make sure I’m getting the right Philip Hue model since they’re like $140+ for a 2M strip

I went with the govee after trying both. My humble opinion - the added cost was did not correlate to the quality increase. The only real world benefit I saw of the hue over the govee is there isn't a stupid camera analyzing the colour on your tv, if you can live with that save yourself the dollars.

@doobey1231: Just wanted to jump in here!

We'll be releasing the Govee 2.1 sync box in the second half of this year, which will have support up to 8k. No need for a camera, just plug your HDMI straight into the box which will do all the analysis for you :)

            • @CleverGear: Any notes on backwards compatibility? I assume none but one can hope

              • @doobey1231: Hi @doobey1231

Just to clarify, what do you mean by backwards compatibility? Which products are you referring to?

                • @CleverGear: I am referring to the product that you are talking about and the one you have listed above. Will the new sync box work with older govee products to allow people to get rid of the camera.

                  • @doobey1231: Hi @doobey1231

Okay, gotcha. We've asked the same question to Govee previously but unfortunately it's not backwards compatible. The hardware is specifically designed for the lightstrip that's included in the kit, so we're unable to sell just the HDMI 2.1 sync box stand alone :(

      • Don’t agree with Philips tvs being any good, they pretty meh but agree on Govee first gen like this being way sub par

    • +2

Philips tvs absolutely suck, the ambilight is the only good part about it honestly and it works great but certainly not a reason to buy a philips tv.

  • @CleverGear I'm interested in the 98"-100" variant. Any deals?

    • +1

      Hey @purple1

Sorry we don't stock this variant currently, but we'll provide this feedback to our team :)

  • +2

What's the difference between the T1 and the starter kit?
Any deals on the T2 75-85" please?

    • I was wondering the same thing. Looks like 6 addressable zones as opposed to 4?

    • +2

      Hi @rainbowunicorn

The main difference is just the physical design of the camera and receiver.
We don't stock the T2 but we'll be getting new model for Australia in a few months, will link you the new model when we release it online :)

    • Hi @rainbowunicorn

Just sharing the new 3S which we'll be bringing into Australia in a few months - https://www.clevergear.com.au/products/govee-tv-backlight-3s…
It will have better colour representation with RGBIC+W light strips

  • I've got an older version of this and it works terribly. The colours are not accurate though I think that comes down to the poor viewing angles of my TV and the position/angle of the camera.

  • I really want to try one of these, but seem to be so hit and miss…. I don't want to waste $85… :(

  • +2

It works fine -> In fact I reckon it's great from the price. You DO have to configure it properly though!!!

  • +1

Have the H6199 T1 and love it. Did need some calibration, but there are helpful youtube videos out there.

  • +1

    Awesome price, thanks OP :-)

  • +2

I have been using the T1 kit for past 18 months and love it. the key to these is the setup and follow the instructions on youtube then ensure there is no ambient light on the TV or camera. They work very well in practically total darkness. Dont even think about using it in broad daylight unless the room is very dark. On top of this tho is Govee's support. It is first class and they will try to help as much as possible. Thanks OP. Good price for the 75 to 85 inch as I have just upgraded my 65 inch so great timing.

  • +1

Thanks for the deal OP, I've been using the T1 on my 65" for nearly a year and love it. I've just bought a 70" TV though and not sure which kit will fit it. The choices offered seem to skip 70".

  • How is the light strips that come in this package? Is it the same led strips as T2 just without the T2 sensor/camera?

    • +1

      Hi @laycrq!

The light strips for this model are different to the T2 and have 30 LEDs per meter.
If you're looking to get a better model than the T2, I'd recommend waiting another 1-2 months. We have the Govee 3S kit coming soon, which will have better colour representation with RGBIC+W https://www.clevergear.com.au/products/govee-smart-tv-backli…

      • How far off is the release of the 3S? Is that the different to the upcoming 3 Pro?
