Google Pixel 7a $499 Delivered for Existing Customers (New Customers Add Minimum $30 Plan) @ amaysim

602

Seems a good price, the catch is it's only available to Amaysim customers, so if not a customer, you'll need to get a 7-day $10 SIM and create an Amaysim account. eSIM available for same day activation. I haven't actually done this myself, but I assume it'd pretty straight forward.

UPDATE: $30 SIM seems to be the minimum required plan. $10 7-day and 365-day plans are not eligible.

Existing customers are able to purchase one device for their existing service every 12 months.

Give me a 6 bedroom mansion with Sydney Harbour views for that price…

Oh sorry I thought we were just comparing the deal to things that aren't the same price. An iPhone 13 is $1099 to buy right now

      • -1

I think they were making reference to a previous deal about a year ago where they sold the iPhone 12 Mini for $400 (I think it was $400, if not it’s around there).

        • Yeah OK. Also not comparable though. A 12 mini is both a previous generation vs iPhone 13 and the mini version, which is always cheaper than the normal model.

    • Obligatory reference - Amaysim iPhone 12 mini deal one year ago as a reminder….

Still got the 256gb version @97% battery health.

you'll need to get a 7-day $10 SIM and create an Amaysim account

Or better yet get amaysim PAYG plan with 365 validity for $10

    • Dang, it looks like they fixed the app which would extend your sim expiry for free if credit was added using an expired debit/credit card - it'd charge, apply credit, extend date, then remove credit as the transaction fails.

    • This seemed don't work for me. I was on PAYG, and they didn't allow purchasing devices (I tried a few low-end Android phones) using that plan. Ended up buying a $30/28days plan from them

Still using my 12 mini :)

      Still using Xiaomi Mi 9T.

Dope phone with the camera. How’s it holding up ?

        • +2

Still works great. Love the screen with no punch hole, it was ahead of it's time.

          Camera is very good too.

I was still using my 9T until Telstra had the Pixel 7 for $564.50 last year. The 9T was a great phone for $400

      Still using my A70

I see this and I can't help but still want the nothing 2a..

    • Good looking phone tbh , will there be a price drop ?

      • +2

fat chance for discount next 4~6 months. 2a was released less than 4 weeks ago.

there's suppose to be a community re-designed back edition in late June, so a discount could come, but i think it's more likely they run out of standard 2a, and switch production to that version. So availability will reduce, negating the need to lower price.

    • Same, real keen on having this as my Android side-piece.

  • +1

Not overly happy with my 7a. Dropped it onto tiles from about 40cm height and the screen cracked. It has a cover as well, but I guess it just landed near the corner of the phone.

    • I got one a year ago and it slipped out of my pocket onto tiles as I didn't have the case yet. I must have got lucky as it just very lightly scuffed the corner. Freaked me out though! Not using a new phone again in the future until I have the case. They're too slippery and unprotected without a case

    • +7

You are not happy with it cause.. you were the one who drop it and it cracked?

      Your review

"Excellent product. Strong built and does everything it says it does. But wife left me and i lost my job. So 1 star."

      • +6

I didn't say it was a bad phone, I said I'm not happy with it because the screen cracked. A phone's screen shouldn't be cracking when dropped from such a low height. I wouldn't recommend this phone to clumsy people.

        • +3

I know you got downvoted but there may be some merit in what you're saying. My mate had a pixel WITH the case and dropped it not that far and it cracked the screen, so maybe they arent the sturdiest build?

        • -1

"A phone's screen shouldn't be cracking when dropped from such a low height."

You just found out what happens to tempered glass when it comes in contact with ceramic tile!

          Yeah, science!

      • I take your point, but I go out of my way to avoid full glass phones for this reason. Metal edges/frame protects it during many drops.

    • +2

Also not happy because of this same reason. Dropped my pixel from a seating height and caused a hairline crack right down the screen. This was from around 45cm

Second time I dropped it was when it fell out from a hole in my pocket. The drop would be about 60cm or so. This broke the screen

I know a few other people with pixel phones (pixel 6 onwards) and most have cracked their screens. The phone does seem particularly fragile from anecdotal experience. This is disappointing especially coming from the pixel 3 which have survived much worse drops.

      • It sounds like theres no need for pockets if a phone can slip through ! Maybe get your pants repaired instead of the phone ….

    • Oh man, exact same here. Except mine fell flat. It had a hard cover case and screen protector as well.

  • The finish of the 7a is pretty poor. Mine has a noticeable overhang of the rear panel which annoys me every time I pick it up. Feels rough and not something I've experienced on any phone I've owned before. Even $20 burner phones don't have this issue.

  • +3

They don't allow you to purchase it with $10 prepaid sim (even after you became their customer), it has to be $30 one according to the previous post. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/834506

    • +2

Yeah, even a 1-year long plan isn't good enough:

"This service is not eligible to purchase a device.
Upgrade this service to the plan below to purchase a device".

  • +4

Pretty sure you need a $30p/m plan minimum to buy a device.

    The $10pm plan isn't eligible

  • +4

Just a reminder for those with high battery drain, you can either let the phone run out of battery or wait until 20% and perform a reset per the following Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/comments/17301x1/updat…

It’s such a poor phone with clean android experience.

Only buy if you are looking for a getaway phone.

    • Experience? Please elaborate. About to buy for a work person. Cheers

The only reason why you would buy a Pixel is to run GrapheneOS

People forget all recent Pixels are using rebadged Samsung Exynos chipsets which are only one step above MediaTek

The poor heat and battery life issues on the Pixel are due to the craptacular Exynos modem choking on mixed-mode 3G/4G/5G networks

Google know this which is why the're developing their own chipset

As Google will need 2-3 generations to refine the chipset, this means you wouldn't buy a Pixel until at least Pixel 11

Finally, given the 3G shutdowns happening this year, if you're buying a new phone that isn't just a burner, get one with a Qualcomm modem

        • +1

Yep, I experimented with a 6a and wouldn't touch a Pixel again for this reason. The Tensor is just a glorified Exynos chipset.

          • @1r4n14n: I have been using 6a as a burner phone. It has been great especially for $330. Besides the fingerprint issues which seems to have been mostly solved, I love this phone but haven’t moved due to family using iMessage.

        • +1

The Pixel 7 has the worst mobile reception of any phone I can remember owning in the last decade. In locations of poor signal, where I had nil connection, my replacement Qualcomm phone managed to connect on the same sim, send and receive calls and texts, and receive ~30Mbps during a speed test.

      • This phone will heat up with minor stress. I do jot recommend for multi-tasking.

If you’re using this as your secondary phone, go for it.

Downvoting the facts, go pixel fans!!!

I’d rather buy Pixel 8 than this ugly looking pixel.

  • So I have a yearly plan that's a few months from expiring. I logged in with my amaysim account but there's only a "confirm and continue" option and in the FAQs, it says:

"What happens when I renew my service early?
Your current standard plan inclusions will restart today."

Does this mean they'll charge me the $125 again and restart my plan from today if I hit confirm?

Plenty of Pixel 7 Pros avaialble on Marketplace in around $500-$600. I would personally go for that if I had to buy a phone. Even you can get a Pixel 8 in around $700 whihc is far superior than 7a or 7 even.

    • "far superior"

$700 is 40% more than $500, it'd want to be.

      • Depends what you want and what is your budget. Of course there is a lot of difference between a 7a and 8. If budget is an issue, then go for 7 Pro.

  • Does this pixel offer unlimited photo storage? Or did that stop with 5?

  • Motorola Edge 30 Neo 5G 128GB is going for $300 @jbhifi/store stock only remaining now but for $500ish you can buy the MUCH better Poco X6 pro 5G 8/256 or 12/512 @aliexpress/global edition!
