  • Windscreen repair costs can range from $100-$500.

Apparently car windscreens that have a HUD (heads-up display) can cost thousands of dollars to replace.

    • i have an older BMW , was $290 for new windscreen, no cameras or sensors, was cracked rather than chipped.

  • I don't think you do need to be a member for this.

~In-store chip repairs are $80 for RACQ members and non-members. Mobile chip repairs are available at an extra fee. All prices are inclusive of GST. Offer available until 31 May 2024 but may be changed or withdrawn earlier without notice.

There is a separate member-only offer of $25 off but it doesn't stack.

    • What is the member only offer

  • Last time i got them to do this. A week later they were out giving me a new windscreen as the tiny chip went to a giant crack across my windscreen. Pretty sure the dude botched it

Cheaper to buy a chip repair kit for under $20. I have used on a small chip and worked well. Remember to keep the chip clean with a clear sticker.

  • Work colleague used this service, then had to take car back to get the glue/resin residue cleaned off the interior of his car. He had to escalate his issue - in fairness to RACQ they did offer to make good.

  • I used to be a senior consultant at the contact center taking phone calls for most services including Autoglass, chip repairs are not a 100% guarantee the screen might break after getting it fixed so might pay to hear out a quote on how much it would cost to get a new screen, also there is a size requirement on the chip, once it reaches a certain silver coin size it cannot be repaired.

When getting quotes for a new screen you can get both a non genuine and genuine quote, some of non genuine screens even have rain sensors, heated technology etc. Genuine screens can be pretty pricey so it might pay to go through insurance.

Also I believe there was an option to get a free windscreen replacement on your RACQ membership or insurance, been a while but hope this helps someone : )
