Hmmm I've been here a long time & never seen a Casio watch posted on OzB from Aliexpress before.

Also after looking at the pics in the reviews, Casio watches don't come in that packaging.

    • +5

      Yeah, proceed with caution.

      • +3

Surely nobody thinks Seiko SNK models are genuine so why would anyone think Casio is?

Most Casio watches around this price come in this box.

        • I was going to say that too - but reckon they may have bought in bulk or ditched the box to save on weight. Ordered one but we shall see, lol.

ps only bracelet is stainless steel - the case is still resin 🀣🀣

    • Maybe they replace the tin with box to make shipping cheaper?

      • +4

        Maybe they are fake?

    • -3

Looks like they took it out of the plastic display case. Everything else looks the same, thickness of the manual, tags etc.

    Haha

    • +1

      100% real, no fake store

    • its just generic name, nothing suspicious about it you know if you buy alot from ali

  • +1

Are these genuine? I’ve only ever bought Casio watches off Amazon so I just wanted to check.

    • +4

      Yeah… nah

    • +1

Lots reviews are from people who has many Casio and they all say genuine

    • +7

      genuine copies

      • There is actually a knock off version of this called SKMEI and it looks noticeably different. So at least in this case they've used images of the correct Casio product, FWIW.

    • +3

      Genuine as a $3 coin.

  • After getting and loving my AE 1200, I've been waiting for a sale on AE 1300 so that I can do the Pomodoro technique with it. But dare I risk it on AliExpress?

  • No gold 4 u

  • They should create a brand called Chasio

I bought this exact watch in a brick and Mortar shop in Singapore for $45 SGD, the packaging is blue in color and it has a tiny holographic Casio sticker on the box itself.

I'll see if I can find the box tmr but you can probably guess that the brown coloured cardboard box isn't your typical Casio retail packaging

    • +1

Yes you're correct. I posted a YT link to an unboxing above which shows the blue box.

So this is interesting, what happens now because this is the 1st time I've seen a watch deal posted with serious questions about whether it's genuine or not?

Which store did you go to in Singapore? Hopefully I will go there soon.

      • To this never bought a single item off Aliexpress over concerns over authenticity (china is the land of counterfeiting) and payment issues and I even heard of unauthorised copying/use of people's card numbers.

        • +1

I even heard of unauthorised copying/use of people's card numbers.
i thought thats is trademark of nigeria

          • @CyberMurning: Ha, guess if you are worried then use a one time transaction (disposable) card to pay, such as Revoult or Wise.

Visa and Mastercard are covered for fraud so I'm not too worried about it and have bought plenty of stuff from Ali.

            • +1

@G-rig: nah i was just joking of his comment. ive bought too many from ali as well

    • how long have you had it? All the listing comments say its genuine but it doesn't seem like these would be hard to copy these days. Nobody would know unless you're going to open these up.

    • +6

You don’t know anything about watches

      Casio is god tier

      • So is the Skmei 1628.

        • +7

Because people who like watches don't wear smartwatches. You're mixing with the wrong crowd in this thread.

        • +3

A smart watch is cool for people addicted to tech, but plenty of people don't want annoying notifications, useless 'health' things and daily charging for something purely to tell the time.

        • they tend to follow trends over logic

    • +5

      WRONG.

Heart rate monitor is cool and all but no one wants to charge their watch every night and live their lives around notifications.

My smartwatch is currently paperweight. I will read those emails when I have the time, not when my watch tells me to.

      • +3

Notification settings are a thing. Also a good smart watch can go multiple days without needing to charge. I'm not a heavy user but I get 4 days out of my three year old Samsung Active2.

        • What's the point of a smart watch if you disable the notifications and don't use the other 'features'? And a Casio battery will last probably last 10 years (a smart watch would barely hold a charge at that point if it still even works).

          • +1

@pizzip: Because you set the notifications per app. My phone doesn't allow every app to send me a notification, and my watch allows even less through.

      • Heart rate monitor is cool and all but no one wants to charge their watch every night and live their lives around notifications.

not trying to disagree with you. but I am the opposite.

for me heart rate monitor got old quick and is not cool. tbh it was in the beginning but after awhile when you realise you just record the data and check it pointlessly it just becomes another thing that's a drain on the battery.

if I get a new smartwatch its the first thing I turn off. I also dont bother using GPS unless I want to see the path I walked on a map. for me the notifications/weather info is worth keeping because its like an extension of your phone that's about it.

the only watch I keep heart rate monitor turned on is my garmin because it uses that to detect if it leaves your wrist for nfc pay. if you have HR turned off you have to enter the pincode every single time you pay. if you have HR turned on you just enter it when you put it on and its ready to swipe to pay for 24 hours or if it detects leaving your wrist (it never false detected btw very reliable).

    • +2

Many people don't want to wear a $500 watch in their workplace. Many people want a watch that doesn't need to be charged while they are travelling. Many people don't want notifications or biometrics constantly thrown at them while they go about their day. Some people can't use personal electronic devices in their workplace due to security constraints.

    • +2

Casios are awesome for when you just need the time.

Who needs every notification streamed to their wrist? or, their biometrics tracked 24/7?

      • +1

Exactly, and great beaters as well.
I'd hate to have to charge an iWatch every day as well as a phone. A Garmin would be better.
Already have a Fitbit charge 5 as well but that is minimal notifications, does steps hr cals, gps PayPass and lasts 7 days.

  • Expect a 'Cosio Rayale'

  • I may give the vintage world time a go (1B yellow with green map), with a new Ali account.
    ~Done. US$18.73 = AU$28.65 😁.

Seems like they are going quick, will be happy to have one again. Got 2x black ones in 2021 via amazon US for ~A$85 ended up selling, the silver one last year $60 but bracelet too big, returned a green army one ~$60 (bit expensive and felt/looked cheap on the material band). So will make sure i keep this one and wear it a lot!

  • Given the high likelihood of being a fake from a marketplace website like Ali express I can’t believe this hasn’t been removed.

    -suspicious seller
-market place known for cheap and knock offs
    -suspicious packaging
    -low price

    • Will let you know - <$30 is worth the risk (and used paypal) otherwise will lodge a dispute and keep it for free.
If they were 20$ or less you'd know they are fake, but not overly cheap. There must be massive stock overseas and they probably buy in bulk.
I do tend to agree, anything with AliExpress in it just sounds dodgy haha

Have a look at some of the comments and photos, looks ok.

      • Looks like the watch says "Casio" on it. Okay, it's not a knockoff, but still a high chance of being counterfeit.

        • +1

Maybe people were thinking of those SKME knock-offs. I know what you mean though, hard to have 100% confidence.

You can diagnostic test the module 3299 (press left two buttons and right bottom at same time) - first thing I'll be doing.
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyoF6ty3nPQ&t=2s

          • @G-rig: let us know!

          • @G-rig: Unfortunately, that's pretty easy to emulate and found it several counterfeits as well.

            • +2

@Ezuku: Well it's a start, most dodgy ones wouldn't go to that effort when the module and watches aren't that expensive to start with.

will research other discrepancies but have had a few in the past so know how they should feel. Otherwise just lodge a complaint.

    • seller name its just generic name, nothing suspicious about it you know if you buy alot from ali

    • wrong - I got mine and it legit. It is a normal assumption to make and good being cautious but sounds like you didn't order nor seen one so people should ignore this comment. The Asian market is much bigger and they save on costs with the packaging. Mine came from HK.

  • Dude jnus godyear, shvidka delivery. Daughter

    • stroke. someone dial 000 now!

  • people with lots of watches how to deal with battery inside it if you dont wear them often? do you just let them die and replace? do you wear/rotate them (for me i have 8 from casual to dress styles) every week?

    • Pull the crown out when not in use. Personally I never reset the date as I never look at it.

      • ah never know that will stop the battery haha thanks
how about the casual style like these casios?

        • They have 10 year battery. Just let them run. Buy a new one every 10 years.

    • If they are battery powered it makes no difference if you wear them or not. Change the battery yourself (easy with the right tools) or take it to a Mr Minit once every few years and have a coffee while they do it.

  • +1

Great watch at a great price. However, the silver wristband is sold out.

    • If it's actually real

      • No reason why it wouldn't be.. they aren't that expensive to start with.

        • @CyberMurning we shall see when it arrives.

          It's a bit different faking a rolex vs a 30$ Casio.
Those skme are like only a bit cheaper, so if anything it will be better than those and a fooking good fake. Ha

  • I remember watches - I had one once ! and a Casio or three along the way

Lemme see - around 1980 I got the first digital watch I saw on the market - maybe a GE (General Electric) - black plastic with a small red LED display with digits maybe 4-5mm high, but here's the thing - it kept really accurate time - it might have lost something like 2 seconds a month.

Later digital watches probably used cheaper components and started to be less accurate.

I now maintain a garage fob access system (not connected to the internet) with an internal digital clock that loses 3.5 MINUTES per month - so in my calendar is a monthly reminder to lug my laptop to that room to plug in, to update the time.

Maybe last year as part of some health research they lent me a new Apple Watch which was internet-connected and even told me my pulse rate (63 resting, 148 after my 15 daily pushups), but - the silicone strap felt like a tourniquet, cutting off my blood flow

so now I've joined the younger brigade - pulling my phone out of my pocket every time I want to check the time.

tbh its the same deal with F91W being sold super cheap on eBay. negative feedback claiming fake constantly get removed. I wouldnt buy. πŸ˜”

    • What's super cheap, they are fk all anyway?
Will report back, wcs I'll get a refund and keep the watch.

      • What's super cheap, they are fk all anyway?

like less than half the price of usual. it's been awhile since I checked I think around $15 to $18.

people keep being tricked into buying them they price them "not too cheap" so that it gives them a better feeling it will be genuine.

        • Yeah I guess they aren't 15 or 20 USD anymore but Amazon sometimes has sales, not very good prices on the last two years

        • Have to buy from the right sellers on eBay and plus has free returns. Still don't know why people would spend more than X on this type of stuff so it's fair to shop around

      • honestly im done with ebay. last few cheap things I ordered all claimed to ship from NSW but took 2 to 3 weeks to arrive.
I needed them quick which is why I paid slightly more for them to ship from Aus. one I remember was headstrap for a torch.

        • eBay plus as quick as Amazon

          • @G-rig: yeah tbh I stopped shopping there many months ago. didnt even take one of those full credit $$ back offers for 1 year ebay plus sub because I knew I wouldnt use it.

other bad experience was getting a DVD for this movie I wanted to watch but no sub was streaming, paid for "brand new" and got a used scratched up disc that started freezing every minute about 20 minutes into the movie. this wasnt the first time getting burned from "honest sellers" anyway. I always check feedback etc and still got burned. took me about 6 bad experiences but I learned my lesson now.

should be fair and give something positive. bought a tablet holder that mounts to a microphone stand 5/8 inch screw I think. it was made of mostly plastic but it's been over 2 years now and it still holds up great. easy to mount and remove tablet i thought the mechanism wouldnt hold up but it has just fine. seller shipped item quickly and was satisfied.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: Yeah a lot of it is a headache, but can usually trust Amazon I guess.

Should look into the Stremio and real-debrid setup for streaming

              • @G-rig:

Should look into the Stremio and real-debrid setup for streaming

yeah seeing that mentioned a few times recently.

  • Similar price to Amazon US (minus shipping). I was going to pull the trigger as I'm keen to get both the 1200 and 1300 and have a go at some of the modding that has been done by the Casio modding community. Some definite style improvements out there.

Currently in Malaysia and the 1300 is about $45-53 in shops.. will be in KL in a week so will try there where there appears to be more competition.

  • Got an order 'Expired' message and PayPal payment refunded today. Anyone else?

  • Mine was posted, left the country I think.
