I know someone who owns one of these and apparantly it's "the best water bottle ever." Pretty cheap for a ~1L bottle.

The problem with steel water bottles is they taste like steel.

    Glass is where it's at.

    • +4

I find this to be most apparent when you're drinking directly from steel (i.e. your lips touching steel). This, Frank Green and a few others bottles have a plastic straw design so it pretty much tastes like normal water to me.

    • At first I thought you were crazy but Tritan is glass, isn’t it? That’s good stuff

FWIW I don’t have a problem with my steel bottles

      • +2

        tritan is plastic

        • -1

Poisonous plastic. Look up how it was approved for use and how they went about destroying one person who opposed them.

  • +4

My 15y old daughter bugged me for one of these which I bought for her Christmas present. They are well made and sturdy and I got one for myself and my son.

My daughter and son both say they are drinking more at school because of the ease of the in-built straw, which makes it worth the extra cost for me!

Definitely recommend … only minus is that they are heavier than most of our other water bottles (stainless steel included).

    • -3

Frank Green is where all the teens are at

      • +8

Frank greens are 2 generations behind in the gen z world - Hydroflask -> Frank Greens -> Stanley -> Owala.

Nope I'm not one of those gen z's, just have an addiction to bottles 😂

        • +2

Should I front run my teenage daughter and buy one of these Owala? 😂

        • Thank Christ.

All three of my daughters FG’s leak or have busted lids/caps, and they only ever kept drinks cool for half as long as a Zojirushi.

Japanese teens know where it’s at…

        • Yeti is not on trend but highly strong anr dent resistant

  • Quality Panphonic or Sorny brand bottle

    • are they copying someone else?

    • +6

I'm not going to lie to you those are all superior water bottles, but if you like to drink your water, and I mean really drink it… you want the Carnivalé!

    • Panaphonics?

  • I ordered this just yesterday and am considering cancelling and re-ordering for the additional $3.50 cashback.

I was deciding between this design, or the Boneyard one.

Decided on this one because it was a little cheaper and I've not used this bottle before. Based on my research it will fit my needs very well and appreciate armaboo sharing their real life experience. Although I dont want the straw part (as I hate having to dirty it and cleaning it), I am looking forward to the way it flips tight so I can feel at ease when it's in my bag.

I've had mine for around 3 months now. They are indeed very very good bottles. Often touted as one of the best, with good quality materials and NO lead, like the overpriced stanley cups. It holds ice for a decent amount of time, i would say 9 hours (realistic figure compared to these 24 hour figures brands say) and is very very light. The Sip and Chug functions are very underrated, and a super bonus. However, the YETI bottle is a tad better and holds ice for a lot longer and is a solid build. Both great options!

    • +1

Yeti uses the same or a similar manufacturing process as Stanley so has lead in their bottles.

      • -1

You had me worried for a moment but there is no lead in the yeti’s.

        https://www.yeti.com/manufacturing-faq.html#:~:text=All%20YETI%20Rambler%C2%AE%20Drinkware%20Is%20Lead%20Safe&text=To%20meet%20this%20requirement%2C%20YETI,mg%2Fkg%20(ppm).

        • +1

YETI’s legendary thermal performance and durability utilizes vacuum insulation in YETI's double-wall stainless steel Rambler® Drinkware. To achieve this standard, a small sealing bead (pellet), or solder, is used. The sealing bead contains lead in its composition, but it is fully encapsulated and inaccessible. The use of lead in the composition of a sealing bead to achieve vacuum insulation in double-wall stainless steel drinkware is common practice in the industry. YETI takes product safety very seriously, especially as related to possible exposure to lead. For this reason, YETI’s Rambler® Drinkware is robustly designed to fully encapsulate the sealing bead to prevent any direct lead exposure. All of YETI’s products also undergo extensive testing to confirm the durability of the product and to ensure this encapsulation will last throughout the life of the product.

@ozbs25: Bugger..thanks for sharing that! Owala for the win then!

  • Bought 2-set thermosflask 1.2L water bottles for $38 in store last week. These fashion water bottles are getting pricey each passing day.

These look identical to the ones I got from Temu this week. 2 for $24.

      • What's your review for the Temu one for hot liquid?

        • Haven't received them yet. I'm planning to use them for cold water, so rarely (if at all) for hot liquid

  • Kinda want this for a car bottle because of the straw, but I’ll make do with my Klean Kanteens

    • Camelbak Eddy+ is another option, assuming you don't like the less versatile (ie straw sticks out, not as leak proof as a drink bottle) tumbler design of the Yeti/Stanley ones that are all over the Toks.

  • Can these be put into the dishwasher?

    • +1

BPA, lead, and phthalate-free; hand wash cup, dishwasher-safe lid; not for use with hot liquids

      It's in the description

  • +7

Been using these for about a year. Great quality bottles (no chips or cracks to date) and the ability to either use the straw, or tip to skull, is surprisingly handy. Mrs wanted Frank green but i refused to fall for the marketing and landed on these.

  • +2

The few reviews I read seem a little suspect.

Reviewmeta gives this a 3.2* rating after adjustments. Not always accurate, and ozbargain sentiment seems very positive so make your own decision

  • "not for use with hot liquids" makes me sad

    • From my research, almost all of these with a straw option say they're not for hot liquids because you'll burn your mouth too easily. Personally I have found my Camelbak Eddy (insulated) is just fine for hot (but not boiling hot) tea, because the bite valve gives more control.

And if you don't need the straw, then Owala's main advantage vs say, Yeti or HF vanishes. They do have a distinct aesthetic though, which I love.

Personally I like the Eddy's silicone bite valve because it retains germs less easily than the plastic on most bottles, but YMMV.

  • Costco sells two (twin pack) hydroflask 1.2L for about $36.

  • +1

I have one of these, and I love it. Great waterbottle and I love the straw/gulp combo lid more than I thought I would.

  • +2

I also have one of these, bought the black 1L for $60? a few months ago. The straw has been a gamechanger, it’s now the only method I drink water from haha.
Bottle is good and sturdy, definitely keep water cool even when left in the car/sun sometimes. Only problem is the 1L bottle is a bit big and may not fit in some car cup holders.
Just make sure to lock the lid in when you chuck it in a bag, bc the button for the lid can been pushed open inside a bag before (my mistake for not locking it).

Also maybe buy a straw pipe cleaner as well, and don’t forget to clean the silicone piece that’s part of the lid/mouth piece (gotta take it out and clean it properly) as mold can grow if it’s left moist and sealed in there.

  • Says 47% claimed but only 1 left?

  • +1

If I can also add to this - pestered to buy by my wife, and ended up getting one myself. No metalic taste, good insulator, and I dropped it down 2 flights of stairs and it survived with just small dints. Good quality bottle compared to everything else I’ve seen on the market

Star Wars Grogu 24 oz bottle $36.52 https://amzn.asia/d/fQmUbF4

Can't beat Zojirushi. Wait till they are on sale. I wasted $20 on a Tiger one. The Zojirushi stays cold all day

  • Anyone compare to Contigo autoseal travel mug? I've had great results with these as almost totally leakproof and great insulation but looking for a bigger option.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Contigo-2063326-AUTOSEAL-Vacuum-In…

    • +1

I have a few Contigos but only use them for hot beverages. This one is cold only. Of the ~1L bottles I have, for cold water, I can recommend :

      https://www.amazon.com.au/CamelBak-Chute-Vacuum-Insulated-Bl…

      and https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/hydration/wate…

Both are diswasher safe. The Mountain Designs one can also hold hot beverages, but I haven't tried it.

      • Thanks, for the money this deal looks worth a punt. Couldn't see any 900ml options in stock for camelbak and not that keen on removing caps as I've gotten used to the Contigo squeeze release.

Contigo in SS finish are DW safe, its just the thin layer of exterior paint that starts to comes off in the DW. I'll probably sand it off once it gets too beaten up as the paint is not that good to begin with at least on some of the colours I've seen.

  • +2
    • not the same prettiness though

    • no built in straw.

        no I'm over 3 and under 80

          good on you.

  • dont have prime, gg

  • +1

If you're extra thirsty, the 40 ounce (1.2L) version is also on sale for a couple of colours for $41. I ordered this one though I also just got a 1L Camelbank Eddy+ as I like their silicone bite valve, which I've found is much more germ/odour resistant than my various plastic options (Nalgene, Decor).

I love the Owala's looks and the fact I could also use it to chug, though.

  • -3

It's still plastic. Prefer glass bottles

    • +1

      stainless steel no?

  • -6

oh please - $33.88 for an empty bottle - into which you can add 0.267 cents worth of water and carry it around ?

wow - it's not like water is virtually free and drinkable from most any tap in Australia where free push-button drinking fountains abound …

or you can buy a fresh 1L in a new bottle for about $1.20 from any supermarket - https://www.coles.com.au/product/coles-sports-spring-water-1…

no - you need to show your intelligence by buying and carrying around one of these … yeah baby ! ;-)

  • Has anyone’s bottles shipped?

    • Yep, supposed to arrive 4/4

      • Interesting. My order hasn’t even shipped yet…

    • +1

Mine has still not shipped either.

Although the order page says "Arriving 8 Apr - 16 Apr".

    • Mine just shipped this morning.

      • Same. Mine shipped yesterday. Only 2 weeks after order. FFS

  • +1

Thanks, OP! I received mine today via UPS.

    • Could you please measure the opening for me? (I'm wonder if my large ice blocks will fit in)

      Cheers!

      • +1

Opening of the lid is 6.5cm (diameter)

  • Mine arrived yesterday - not impressed with the packaging by Amazon, it was just in a thick paper envelope, should have at least had a bubblewrap envelope or preferably a box.

Gave the bottle a good wash but the rubber/silicon seal still has a chemical smell to it.

    • Chuck the top part in the dishwasher

    • Yeah - I received a Thermos Funtainer for my kid packaged the same way, and it was completely mangled! Like, utterly destroyed - bottom cap came off completely, and top cap so mangled that it could not even be opened! Like a truck had driven over it!

I initially got a refund, but luckily I was able to rebuy when it came back in stock (and was refunded the difference).

Fingers cross I won't have to go through that rigmarole again with this! (I ordered the 40oz from the other deal.)
