Looks great tbh. IMO larger watches are more forgiving when they have a decently sized bezel and pillow case shape

    • +4

      pillow case

      Cushion case?

      • +6

That's the word I was looking for

  • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons - if you are a man of honour you will buy this

  • Will I need a watch like this when I go to the moon?

    • +5

Only for the Dark Side of the Moon.

      • +1

Someone should make an record album about that. I reckon it might do ok.

        • How about you do it, Astronaut Joe.

          • @alidli: I'll flick an email to Major Tom, he might have some ideas

  • +1

My God this is tempting. It's still a big boy though.

    • +1

I was worried about the same thing until I bought one with the black dial. Because of the shape of the lugs and relatively short distance between them it looks and feels much smaller on the wrist. If you prefer this colourway then you might want to spring for it now, I have a feeling this model is now on clearance so it may not last too long.

  • What is snoopy about this watch? Cannot see snoopy on dial

    • Just a nickname bruh

    • he's hiding

    • +5

      It doesn't cost peanuts

    • +5

It's a nod to the Omega Speedmaster watches that have been made in celebration of the Silver Snoopy Award from NASA, which they gave to Omega as a supplier of chronographs for the Apollo program.

      • hmm they actually look quite different, not quite the homage i was expecting :/ (mini snoopy is still beautiful though)

        • +1

The colour is the only part of the homage. Lunar pilots were around at the same time during the Apollo program.
          One went to the moon.

Looks nice. Wish the second hand movement was a bit smoother. automatic would be nice but quartz is understandable at this price point.

  • +8

Thanks OP, I haven't bought a watch for over a month.

    • +2

Glad I could help you with that problem!

    • i havent bough a watch for over 3 years now

      • waiting on a grail piece or just happy with what you have?

        • Am happy with my seiko coutura

  • +1

    deepak heard me

deepak: he wants the black dial one? snoopy it is!

why couldnt he hear me for $499 SSC813 T____T

    • $499 SSC813 - That would be an instant buy for me.

      • would be an instant buy for all the watch homies on here i'd say
the only time it came close iirc is that sheils gc glitch deal (Which was cancelled)

  • Since I’m uninitiated in the world of watches, what is the Bulova equivalent in the car industry?
    E.g Rolex = Bentley
    Casio = Toyota?
    Seiko and Citizen 🤔

    • Bulova is American so it can be Tesla

      • Apple is obviously Telsa

Bulova is American, has heritage, has some good models, but plenty of crap ones, so… Bulova is Chevorlet, I guess?

        • +1

I'd say Bulova is more like Oldsmobile. Chevrolet can be a little pedestrian in their design with a solid build underneath. Oldsmobile is a little more premium even if it's the same chassis. Think of it as being like the difference between a bog-standard Falcon and a Fairlaine.

    • +1

Old Bentley's aren't desirable so used values drop like a brick

      Rolex = Porsche
      Casio = Suzuki
      Seiko and Citizen = Toyota

Bulova = maybe Skoda. Interesting, a bit quirky and good value for money.

      • i want a BYD

        • you want a Seagull Watch then.

          • @JimB: no i want a byd

            • +1

@michaelTito: I guess you'll never have to charge the battery if you're only using it to tell the time.

      • Orient = Mazda?

Seiko is a bit overpriced these days, so I feel like they're more Honda than Toyota

Grand Seiko and The Citizen = Lexus

        • +1

Have you seen the price of new Toyota CHR- https://www.toyota.com.au/news/all-new-c-hr-suv-arrives-in-q…

$54,990 + on road costs for a compact SUV.

Honda charges much less for their HRV.

Toyota are taking the piss these days but their customers are lapping it up… can't blame Toyota for it.

          • @JimB: True, Toyotas are expensive here because people are gonna buy them anyway

Hondas are expensive because… Honda think people are gonna buy them?

            • +1

@beltdrive: Honda makes great cars but they are overpriced today.

      • What's BMW/Merc?

        • Omega.

They have their die hard fans (who put down Porsche at any changes). Keep putting their prices up, have too many models and variances, including entry level quartz, many minor changes to their line up that I can’t keep track of. Fairly poor resale.

Trying to catch up to Porsche. Porsche has the demand and therefore resale, many future classics.

At least, unlike BMW/Merc omegas are reliable.

      • Interesting.

        Do JLC.

        • +1

          hmmm Jaguar.

Great history. Their Reverso is their Jag E Type.

Expensive to buy. Beautiful watches. Under the radar so IYKYK.

If you're willing to buy them new, you probably don't care about resale.

    • +3

      Seiko is Toyota.
      Grand Seiko is Lexus.
Casio is more like a Mazda.
      Citizen probably Nissan.

      • +3

Mazda wishes it was Casio tbh

Suzuki is appropriate for Casio IMO because the Swift is the cheapest Japanese car in Australia and is also very good, just like the F91W

        The Jimny is a G-Shock

        • Yup.

Suzuki is cheap and cheerful. And super reliable. Just like Casio. #1 choice for terrorist. No point spending more money than you need to, if you're only going to blow yourself up.

          • @JimB: OzBargainers and terrorists are a very much alike, when you really think about it

  • What would be a good 1st watch for a graduation gift? Budget is $2 to $3k. Can possibly increase to $5k Thanks

    • +1

      Seiko spb143/143j

      About 1.8k

    • +1

Depends on the style. Do you want to get a dress watch? A diver? a 'GADA' (go anywhere, do anything) all-rounder type watch? With an upper limit of $2k you can do a lot.

      • GADA sounds good

        • Does the person like watches? Would it mean more to them if you bought a 'brand' name watch or would they appreciate a smaller brand with less brand recognition but still a well made watch? If they're a watch person then there's so many options.

    • +1

      …….increase to $5k

Can't go wrong with anything in real gold, it will hold it's value more.
