  • Read the reviews before buying

    • More + than -

The two neg reviews are from the same person.

      • +1

And noted that they are at different location too, sus…

Not sure why negative votes, i was posting a advise

        The same person? Sus?
David is not exactly an uncommon name, and the writing style (review dates) suggests two different people :/

I'm confused, but does this need the Grid Connect Kit to use it with google home? Only works with bluetooth without the kit?

Does anyone know if it remembers it's last setting after a power loss? So I could set a colour and then switch it off with a smart plug, then have it turnback on with the smart plug and resume it's previous setting?

    • Buy and return.

    • In my experience with various other USB led strips they all reset to a flashing mode.

    • +1

So I bought two, because cheap.

They don't remember previous setting for anyone else wondering.

I put one around the perimeter of a skateboard deck for shits and giggles, not sure what to do with the other one but I'll work something out.

      • But what's the default mode and colour that they begin on when powered up?

        • Its actually hit and miss, sometimes it does remember, other times solid red. Wierd.

        • +2

Played with Android app - gives choice of colours.

Now just use as LED strip on mirror, not using app. Has option of 8 colours set by pressing button on device. (When USB power applied - always comes on last colour set - in my use, 'white'.)

          • +1

@INFIDEL: Changing colours, then turning off power soon after - reverts to previous colour when power applied.
However if colour has been on for a while (say 5-10 min) before powering off - that colour turns back on.

  • good luck getting it to work on your wifi / router, tried to setup a friends & this thing was a nightmare, was taken back & refunded

    • Not sure how much you paid but it's now $5.

      • +2

I didn't was a friend, think it was $20+ I spent a good few hours trying to get it to stay on the wifi it was flaky as shit, wasn't worth the hassle hopefully others have more success. It may be fine just as a stand alone light strip though

        • +2

I'll be happy if it just comes on when my TV powers on (via the USB on the TV).

            • @Lps: "I think this is going to be shit"

              nek minit

"Yeah, it is shit, but I'm happy!"

            • @Lps:

Low expectations, the key to happiness

              That's what she said!

        • can we just control via app manually it says bluetooth right? not wifi

  • First time using one pass.
It was one pass click and collect for me. No postage option?

    • There is. I just ordered 2 a few minutes ago.

      • Bunnings will not offer delivery if your local store doesn't do order packing.

Big L for OnePass and Bunnings, affects many of us rural people.

    • +1

      same for me. WA?

      • +1

trying to deliver, changed location to NSW, added item to cart, unable to deliver to WA. chooses nearest store to delivery address!

    • I didn't have that option either

  • Cheers, I'm going to try my hand at making some of those faux-neon sign things, these will be perfect.

  • Good value. Think the bias lighting on my TV is on the way out so good purchase for when it finally dies.

  • +1

Is there something like CamelCamel for Bunnings to track prices? Few things I want to get but not urgent so hoping they'll come on sale at some point.

  • Is this good for camping ?

    • I’d prob recommend a dedicated daylight one assuming you want it for actual light and not just a decoration

    • +1

We're doing our first camping trip next month. Worth a shot at $5 for some tent lighting.

      • First camping trip ever, really young maybe?

These will be good for low light situations and/or mood lighting, as well as some fun bling too.

      • I'd say no, they are more designed around interior & fitted - the strips aren't that flexible & everything is exposed

      • Use red if the bugs etc are really bad …

  • +1

    Thanks TA.
Still Number 1 on Ozbargain !

  • Bought 3 thanks

  • Dumb question: if the strip breaks and one come into contact with its exposed leads, is there a risk of electrocution?

    • +1

At 5 volts, you probably wouldn't feel anything unless your tongue came into contact with it.

  • +2

For Perth buyers, Bunnings appears to have placed restrictions on this item and you can't buy it online.

Seems to be a common occurrence lately. OzBargain posts a Bunnings deal, I spend 15 minutes trying to make it work and give up.

None in WA. Not getting free delivery from anywhere but your nearest store. I've had this before. Local store, no stock. Next closest store, no free delivery.

I swear I'm not looking to be negative on your posts (I'm not negging).
I'd chance my arm on Temu/Ali before I bought anything Arlec.
Don't think I have a properly working Arlec product in my house (fans, sensor lights).

    • been using arlec climate sensors, and powerpoints for years no issues, using the original (discontinued) home hub

  • bought a couple, hope to but them under my bed or behind tv, will see. thanks

      • they don't work with the old hub unfortunately, states on the box specifically needing the newer plug in hub

  • wow still avail.

  • +8

    note
I have a range of smart lights in my home, both bulb and LED strip lights, and these are the hardest to use, both in terms of setting up and day-to-day use. The main reason for this is the fact they only connect to devices via Bluetooth - not wi-fi - so they cannot be controlled by Google Home (or Alexa), unless you also purchase the additional wi-fi hub. I was annoyed that I had to spend an extra $77 to achieve the wi-fi connectivity but I spent the money anyway. After 2-3 hours setting it all up and playing with connections, it still doesn't work… I can still only control the lights from the GridConnect app on my phone.

    • This needs to be bolded and underlined in the OP. These are infinitely less useful without a wifi bridge. Think I might cancel my order.

      • but we can turn on off and control change colour etc via mobile app, right? direct Bluetooth connect

        • +3

Yeah, but that's somewhat useless in my Google controlled ecosystem. I didn't read enough - I don't want to open the app every time I need to turn lights on or off.

    • You should use the quote marks and mention that you are just amplifying some randoms review rather than actually speaking from experience

      • oh yes sorry forget yeah its the review not my exp, i bought 2 also :(

    • Does the app let you set a schedule which it will run without BT connectivity? Say you wanted to turn it on and off at the same time every day…

      • +1

You have to be within Bluetooth range for the schedule to work. There's nothing in the light itself that remembers the schedule or the time it's all triggered by your phone.

  • Anyone tried it yet? What's it like on plain white because it doesn't appear to have separate LED's for white.

  • My order was cancelled with refund from my local Bunnings in North Lakes :-( despite showing in stock so I reorder from another nearby store.

hmm doesnt mentioned hub? im confused

    • You can do everything with the app as long as your phone is in bluetooth range. None of the useful automation works though.

      • Is there no remote included to control and on/off also as with some others?

        • Doubt it. Don't think this has IR

          • @Hinee: I opened one up that did last week and jumped on these thinking they were same. Comment below indicates these unfortunately do not.

  • Does anyone know of a generic gateway that will bridge Bluetooth devices like this to WiFi?

  • +6

Just got a call from my local Bunnings, they told me they don't have any stock left but they are going to upgrade me to the ones with a remote and price match them to the $5 I paid each for them.

    • Now we're all jealous.

      • I just checked the price of the Arlec 2ms that come with a remote and they are $38 each. I think I lucked out.

The reviews for them aren't that great though.

        • +1

most arlec are like that. just so so. probably the same things we get from ali. they just slightly better and has western brand and sold in reputable shops like bunnings

        • +1

amazes me Bunnings bother stocking the Arlec LED stuff I bet they get a huge amount of returns the connectivity is so poor

          • @Irishness: bunnings stocks many arlecs so yeah no surprise. and that brand selling power socket plug extension cant remember the name cheapo stuffs too

            • @CyberMurning: some of the Arlec stuff works fine but a lot of the tech stuff is buggy as hell

  • Was ready to pull the trigger on a couple but the comments have turned me off. I was thinking I might like to just have some underglow on some shelving but if you can't get it onto google maybe not. I like to keep buying things I can control from one place.
Hurry up and become mainstream matter

  • Pretty cool but can't think of where I'd actually use them 💁🏾‍♂️
