    • I missed on that sweet cashback 😅

  • I've got an rgb30
    Just got an anbernic rg556
And I ordered this one last night from the same store for 80.36 (coins gave an extra discount) plus 3.47 cash rewards cashback.
This one will be my pocketable console

    • Whatever helps you sleep at night.

      • +2

Bright screens of retro handhelds of course!

  • All I really want is for the Odin 2 to go on discount….

  • +1

    Latest review. It's good (now).

    https://youtu.be/wDRATfZ8CfY

    • Except the d-pad is bad and no software update is going to fix that :(

  • I have finally received mine today, after a long wait. Praise the Lord 🙏🤩

    • +1

Do you like it? I think it's too small…

      • +1

It does feel too small, but I prefer it that way for portability. I can play it on the tram, bus, train, ferry and at work. And when I need a larger screen I will use the HDMI port.

        • I have immediately started playing Castlevania from PS1. So, I didn’t have much time to review everything, especially that this is my first unit.

    • +1

Mine tuned up today as well. It took less than 2 weeks, which is not bad.

I haven't really played with it much, can't be bothered at the moment :D

I wanna install CFW, but not sure any of them are up to scratch yet.

I like the size of it though, much smaller than my other handhelds

      • You caved in and got one!

        • Yeah, I almost always do :D

          • +2

@chromium: I installed batocera… It's not worth it. The og Anbernic is actually really good and I'm tempted to just go back.. cfw is just shit right now

            • +1

@maverickjohn: Hmm ok, there's also a mod of the OG fw that adds some improvements, maybe I'll try that.

              https://github.com/cbepx-me/RG35xx-P-RG35xx-H-Modification

              • -1

@chromium: I might try that too.
I spent days scraping images of all the rooms only to find out no bios was installed. So I have to also download bios for each emulator it's just a freaking nightmare.. of software just works and works well

                • -1

@maverickjohn: Umm why would you expect the BIOSes to be bundled with the cfw? The cfw is a legitimate open source project, they can't be bundling copyrighted BIOSes.

Takes a few seconds to "source" the BIOS files online.

                  I spent days scraping images

Don't scrape images on the device, it will be super slow. Use https://www.skraper.net/

                  • @PainToad: Because the application gives no guidance on how to get things running.
I had to learn the hard way of navigating and troubleshooting.
So there are lots of problems with this.. you do you. If you are happy going and putting all that effort then by all means.
It doesn't change the fact that a guiding FAQ of sorts would have been good with this.
So for 95% of people who buy these, for pick up and play stick to stock firmware.

  • Uh oh. When I go to my status it says "Failed to clear at import customs".

    What do?

    • +2

Wait and it'll turn up in a few days. Mine said the same thing and it arrived today

  • +1

They just released a firmware update. 30/03/2024.

    https://win.anbernic.com/download/360.html

    • Cheers. Is the general consensus to use anbernic stock firmware?

There is Garlic OS on this like the normal RG35XX right?

      • Got mine yesterday. Still running stock
Consensus seems to be batocera as the best right now.
Stock firmware is not bad though

        • Batocera is a nightmare. It's not straightforward.
Simply installing batocera is not enough. You then need to download all the system bios for each emulator. Then you need to scrape all images to have the UI of viewing your games which takes forever.
It also doesn't take advantage of the function button everything relies on the start button. It's a bit silly and not as good as people are making it.

          • -1

            @maverickjohn: Such hyperbole.

The negative to these devices is it's flooding the emulation community with entitled people who expect everything served up on a silver platter.

You then need to download all the system bios for each emulator.

Of course you do. It's a legal requirement. Has been that way for decades in the world of emulation.

Then you need to scrape all images to have the UI

Well, how else do you expect the images of the roms you install to appear? Magic?

            which takes forever.

Because you're doing it wrong. Use https://www.skraper.net/

            • @PainToad: Not at all a hyperbole.
The retroarch system works flawlessly with stock firmware. It's just a nightmare you come across the issues ongoingly.
Each to their own. But if you want to just pick up and play don't do custom firmware it's not worth it.

      • Garlic os isn't available in this device yet

        • +1

I played around with muos tonight seemed to work well.

I also had the issue of the device not powering on no matter what I did.
I had to remove the back case and unplug and replug the battery connector

  • Latest firmware made PS1 much better for me. I can now run FF7 at double resolution without graphical glitches.
