Avoid the worry about quality with Heymix/Zyron and buy Ugreen.

Bought for myself a week ago for a good price at $10.00 more.

Bought a couple today at this price for the kids to couple with the collection of euro/asia/us figure 8n cords I bought cheap on ali express for their overseas travel this year.

    • Do you know if the charger get reseted everytime you plug in more than 1 device?

      • I am using the 200W version, thus I can only provide a "nearest" answer.

The unit has auto negotiation on charge rate depends connected port(s).

I personally wish NOT to see that reset but I accepted it after all.

      • I doubt you can find USB chargers that won't reset every time you plug in a new device - I tried looking for one but failed. I don't know the specifics but it probably has something to do with the need to renegotiate or redistribute power depending on each new device connected.

Although I did come across something called an Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS during my search, which as its name suggests will act as a stable and consistent power source for your device even in the event of a blackout.

To achieve this UPSes usually come with some kind of battery, either a massive one that will last for several hours and hopefully be enough to tide you over until power is restored, or smaller capacities just enough to buy a little more time and ensure that your device can be powered down safely. Laptops and mobile phones and most other portable electronic devices have built-in UPSes in the form of their own batteries.

Currently I am using a rather pricey power bank as a UPS and portable power source in betwen my 100W GaN charger and my USB C powered mini PC (mainly for peace of mind when I perform a BIOS update). Not all power banks can be used as a UPS - the one I'm using is a ZMI No.20 I got from this deal.

Avoid the worry about quality with Heymix/Zyron and buy Ugreen.

Completely second this - UGREEN and Anker actually engineer their solutions in-house, and (as far as I know) actually have an on-the-ground presence in Shenzhen to QC the products coming out of the factories.

After a whole host of various issues with chargers, I've had really good luck sticking with the bigger name brands - UGREEN and Anker are great, Samsung is obviously also really good, but expensive (so when on sale, is great), and I've found Lenovo USB-C chargers to also be excellent.

  • These would be great for international travel as well to carry with a travel adaptor. Any idea if using a travel adaptor will affect the performance of these chargers or is there any risk of damaging this / charging items using cheap travel adaptors?

    • Not sure about travel adaptors, but these charger units uses a standard Figure-8 (IEC-C7) Cable, which can be swapped out based on the country you travel to. @GRP just mentioned in the first comment that they use cheap figure 8 cords bought from Aliexpress for overseas travel.

      • Thanks for the reply. So a cheap figure 8 cable wouldn't affect the performance/safety of these devices ? Sorry if asking basic questions. Trying to settle with a single standard charger !!

        • Unfortunately that is not something I can confirm or deny with certainty, because I don't really travel much these days 😅

Although I do sometimes use figure 8 UK plugs and figure 8 AU plugs interchangeably depending on what is at hand. For UK plugs I pair them with cheap AU travel adapters also purchased from Aliexpress. Can't really notice a difference in terms of device performance, although I do notice that not all cheap travel adapters will provide a good fit.

These aren't drawing much current, less than half an amp at most so the cheapest thinnest of power cables shouldn't have any issue supplying power so long as the connections are good (ie if it wiggles a lot and you hear arcing then don't use it)

  • thought zyron is good

Was having a hard time understanding the this post and another similar ugreen 100w charger, turns out without the figure 8 cords, its 1.99 buck cheaper

    • Good find, looks to be a better deal if you don't plan on travelling with it.

It looks like it would block the 2nd point in a 2 banger wall socket so the $1.99 is worth it.

        • +1

Yep, I'd rather pay the $1.99 to not have it hanging off my wall socket and also makes it easy to swap out cables for different countries.

  • How ya 'Gan?

  • Love this charger, don't really need the 200w but will play some mental gymnastics and find a reason to get one in the future.

  • Thanks - bought this.

Did buy a Zyron 68W charger (which is suposedly GaN 5) but after reading lots of comments after the deal I posted, became worried about potential fire risks/shorting out electronics being charged, so have decided to stop using it.

I did feel it the few times I was using it and even maxed out at the 60W on the USB-C port, it was quite warm which surprised me given it was meant to have advanced technology… Would hate to think how hot the 100W/etc. get. If there is interest, I don't mind tearing it open to get a look at the components inside.

    • I don't know jack about circuitry and electronics and have no idea what to look for in a teardown, but maybe some other members on the site will be interested? @SmoothCactus @Prong @ocular

      • I'm curious to hear how the Toocki/Asometech chargers are going actually. It's been about a year and mines been going great. I think a fair few bought and looking through the later posted deals comments seem positive. I only see one comment that it died in a month, no reports of them catching on fire.

Maybe will prove itself as a good alternative to ugreen

I'm not the guy to go to if you need proper advice on charger safety, but here's a piece of SmoothCactus wisdom I've been saving for future reference:

Anything GaN that is able to do 100w and costs more than $40 and has some review history will basically filter out nearly all the questionable or concerning chargers for the most part imo.

Honestly as long as you're staying away from heymix you're probably fine…

I'll just throw in that you should probably avoid Zyron as well.

    • +1

Well I got my charger today. Initial observations is that it is MUCH cooler than my Zyron 68W (max 60W) charger.

I don't really know much about GaN technology, I bought into the Zyron "GaN 5" technology being far superior but now I'm not so sure.

Anyway, will see how it goes in the long run but so far so good!

  • I was contemplating returning my 100w UGreen charger to get the Heymix 120w so I could charge my new laptop at 100w and something else simultaneously but decided it wasn't worth the risk/hassle even if the Heymix charger is slightly lighter/smaller too.

    • This looks pretty promising if you're willing to take the punt with Aliexpress.

Nah I think I’ll hold off unless I see something better from a brand I trust eg Belkin, Anker, etc
