Buyer beware: I recommend reading through this comment thread before considering any Zyron products.

I have the 140w that caught on fire and the 100w model listed here.. now I am very concerned.

      • As long as you don't leave things charging overnight and unplug your device once it is fully charged, you should be fine… for the most part 😅

    • Oh damn. Bought one from amazon the lasr deal , bit worried to use it now

    • Seems like the issues were reported on the Powerpod 140w model. Anyone aware of issues specifically on this model (Powerpod 100w travel charger)?

@SmoothCactus any review on this specific model?

  • I must be a bit loo py. Rwell.

  • Just bought this a couple of days ago from Amazon. That’s frustrating :(

  • Which ones are the good brands to buy?

  • I just got a 165w one for under $50 but isn't a travel charger.

Is that why the Zyron one is more expensive?

    Am I missing something?

You just answered your own question

Zyron is Australian owned and operated, so yeah… It'll cost more solely based on that alone compared to random Chinese rebrands on Amazon. Though I've also seen comments claiming that Zyron chargers are probably just Chinese rebrands under the hood.

The charger you linked claims to be 165W but in actuality the most it can do is 65W from a single USB C port. The Zyron is able to supply 100W from a single USB C port, which also makes it more expensive.

The quality of these chargers are more or less a toss up, though with 4.5 out of 5 stars from almost 3,000 ratings, I'd say the charger you purchased looks to be a heckuva lot more reliable than Zyron's.

What do you mean by "compared to random Chinese rebrands" - Zyron are not doing any manufacturing here, nor are they doing any in-house engineering locally. They are literally a "random Chinese rebrand".

Yes, they probably have one person in Australia who is doing the website and coordinating logistics with the Chinese factories. This is likely no different to the other sellers of chargers on Amazon.

All the more reason to avoid them then 😅

        • They have good Australian support - i've used them

        • In that case Zyron, Belkin, Alogic, Spigen, Ugreen, Cygnett all fall in the same boat.

FYI only Zyron uses the Navitas GanSense chipsets in Powaforce series same as used by Anker Gan Prime.

@ibelievesyd: Been reading a lot of Zyron-related charger failures in OzBargain comments lately so yeah, you guys are certainly doing something different alright. I'm not gonna deny that. Only other charger I've seen with more complaints are Heymix.

      • Genuine question: what options are there for a non-made-in-China reliable charger?

        • Honestly I have no clue. Been using a Chinese Wotobe one recommended by SmoothCactus and it hasn't set my house on fire so that's good enough for me.

      • A few failures are always going to get more airplay and negative comments over positive ones. I've got about a dozen Zyron products, and guess what? Zero failures, zero issues. Butt I've never made a comment on every post to go on about how awesome they are either. Those who've had failures though will always be first to make noise.

Since you've no experience with their products, you're not exactly in a position to state whether their quality is a toss up or not based on a few failures that you've read about.

        • I'm in the market for reliable chargers and this is just me doing my due dilligence as a customer.

Just take a look at the multitude of reports regarding Zyron charger / cable failures from Ozbargain users like YellowWiggle, diepjds, pooran, uppitt, and drfuzzy.

While Zyron do seem to offer good support and provide refunds or replacements for faulty products, they also knowingly provide shorter warranties on earlier (i.e. less reliable) charger models.

The only other brand I've seen with more complaints than Zyron are Heymix, which is not saying much.

          • @anonym: All the comments that you have mentioned above are related to our old models and cables. That's the reason we stopped those models. The new 140W that had the incident reported has also been discontinued going forward. A few units left are tested inhouse before dispatch. While other brands continue to sell units even after reported incidents, we don't do that.

To mitigate these issues we now work with a reputed factory that manufactures for Satechi, Anker, Belkin, ALogic. That's where our new Powaforce models come from and slowly all models will be discontinued and we will work exclusively with this reliable factory.

            • @ibelievesyd: Now this is something I want to know as a consumer. You guys should work towards being more transparent and proactive in communication, because there is far too much bad press with your past products to casually dismiss with a simple "Oh, we've changed suppliers. So wipe the slate clean!"

              • @anonym: Recently there was a major product recall of Anker power bank recently. What would you do? Stop buying Anker or see how they improve things? I am not trying to justify anything to be honest. We are constantly improving our products is all I would say till we reach that Anker level.

                • @ibelievesyd: Now that is a distinction worth noting. Did Zyron issue a product recall for the model that actually caught fire?

            • @ibelievesyd: @ibelievesyd do you get a lot of issues with this specific model (Powerpod 100w travel charger)? It seems the past complaints (burning, exploding, etc) were mainly related to the 140w model, and I haven't seen any issue in ozbargain specifically mentioning the 100w model.

Is it right to think that this is one of your more reliable models?

              • -1

@jazzleg: No issues reported for this model. Except for 140W, no issues reported for any of our currently sold chargers.

            • @ibelievesyd: Thank you for the various updates in this thread, but I still have a couple of questions.

              • The ZyronTech website lists this 100W GaN 3 Travel Charger as being Powered By Navitas GanSense GaN 5 Gallium Nitride but the description and Amazon listing both say GaN 3. Which chip and generation of GaN is in this charger?
              • You mention the Powaforce series come out of a different factory, but this is a Powerpod. Understanding that you have not received reports of issues with this model, does this mean it came out of the same factory as the discontinued models?
        • A few failures are always going to get more airplay and negative comments over positive ones.

Sure, but I don't see any complaints over Lenovo USB-C chargers lighting on fire, nor Samsung, nor Apple, nor Anker…etc. despite all of them being far more common.

Yes, I agree the risks may be small, but usually when there is smoke, there is fire (quite literally, in this case)

There are a lot of differences between the 2 models. The most basic difference is that you will be able to find our 100W model on EESS database but not the one that you have listed.

  • I like Zyron products but i've had several faulty ones.
Customer support have always offered replacements.

The 2 cable bundle appears to be $19.99 using that Amazon link. How can we get it for the listed $11.99?

    • +1

The deal expired last night so the price was updated. We have added a coupon to get the same price.

      • Legend, thank you.

        Ordered.

  • Not available for $70 on Amazon, there's no $10 coupon and it's $71.24.

    • Please try again, you should see $69.99

  • Code doesn't work for the cables.

    • 40% Off on cables in only available on Amazon.

      • When I tried, I used the code in Amazon. There was no coupon box, hence my comment.
