1080p! We've gone back to 2005 Marty! Great scott!

    • Actually, blu-ray wasn't the first home media to offer 1080p. We can go back earlier than 2005, when there was something called D-VHS (or D Theatre). These movies were full HD and were released starting in 2002. Never in Australia, though.

    any blu-ray player recommendations?

    • PlayStation

    • Second-hand PS3 is still a decent blu-ray player, online multiplayer is free and there are still a number of PS3 games that never made it to the PS4.

    • I had these on VHS.

I still got a pioneer Burner, doesn't fit in the modern cases but could connect it. Would have been mint for the price if 4k. May have to look on Stremio.

      $64 (but region 1)

It's a trilogy that has evolved from the vhs era, to dvd, bluray and 4K. I remember buying the first trilogy set on dvd in 2002. It was a fairly barebones release (dvd commentary only on the first movie) compared to what was released elsewhere in the world.

Then a 4 disc edition came out in lenticular blue packaging (including a commentary/discussion for part 2 and 3) among other extras.

Since then it would get re-released in alternate packaging (anniversary related) a handful of times.

On bluray it was released twice (first was special fold out digipack, second was just a regular bluray case).

And thrn the 4K trilogy set.

Picture quality and audio wise its only improved time after time. As it shoukd as it's one of the better trilogies in film history.

    Great Scott!!!

Yep. I bought every version that came out from VHS onwards. Some of the editions got more bonus features and some corrected open-matte framing issues (most noticeable in parts 2 & 3). Waiting for a good deal on 4K (and yes, I already have the 4K version on iTunes).

    • I remember that DVD set and its cropped picture

  • +7

I'll wait for the 4k trilogy to be discounted. Missed out last time.

    • +3

I was about to buy, then thanks to Ozb, realised there's a 4K version. I'll await that too. Someone better post a deal for it!

      • +1

I don't think the 4K version will go as cheap as this, the bluray version is nothing to sneeze at and still worth adding to your collection!

** Granted the bluray discs are also in the 4K collection itself so you could (in theory) wait until the 4K version is at a more palatable price. It's probably been cheaper but from memory I've only seen it (physically at least - can't speak for Amazon or other online pricing) at $49.
