InB4 Vodafail comments. Reception is actually better than Telstra where I live so I guess it depends on your location.

    • +1

FYI, it is not half price, it is $100 off for the yearly SIM plan.

      • +1

        Math checks out, thanks.

        • +5

*Maths, unless you are in North America ;)

          • +1

@SimAus007: *Maths, unless you are in America ;)

            • +2

@duodeta: North America where English is (mostly) their first language (other than Central America). The rest of America speaks Spanish or Portuguese as a first language. The term America (or the Americas) refers to all the lands in the Western Hemisphere, comprising the continents of North America and South America.
Unless you are referring to America as the United States of America, which many English-speaking people do.
Plenty of institutions in Brasil and Chile give students the option to learn British or American English as a second language.

$110 off after 2000 EDR points

    • Not where I live

  • These deals are great for people that never leave cities.

    • +4

u make it sound like its the minority.

    • +4

YMMV but we never leave the city and my wife still has a lot of issues with Vodafone reception here in Brisbane.

      • I second you on that.

    • Not even working in the city. If you are in Melbourne, you will know that it does not even have reception underneath QV.

      • +1

Qv has been the blacks pot for many for ages, last time I was there in big w, even Telstra struggled.

        • ain't that just how it is down there with all that concrete…

melbourne infrastructure needs to have like 4g signals in tunnels and underground lol, when i went south korea they have that stuff all over the place underground

    • I live in regional Victoria and enjoy fast 5G without issue.

  • +3

What's the date that the SIM must be activated?

    • +1

I saw written on the pack as "you have 365 days to activate your SIM before it expires.", So I assumes 12 months from purchase

    • +2

you only get 150Gb in activated after 9/4/2024.

      • +1

Damn, wife current one won't expire till end of April, might just go with Kogan cheaper $120/120gb plan instead, both Voda anyway. Current on Coles and their 365 plans jacked up so much more expensive, no more $99/60gb !!!

        • +3

Your current wife won't expire until end of April?
Is that when the life insurance kicks in?

        • If you're on Coles you're grandfathered in.

          • @Wardaddy: Expiring wives, grandfathers stuck in Coles; it's all getting too confusing.

  • -4

Good deal, if it wasn't Vodafone. Family members insist on Vodafone for life, wrecking every phonecall we have. "Hmm, not sure what's going on". Maybe if users are beyond broke, or live under a tower.

  • +3

i just switched to this plan last month and the signal is much worse than my previous coles mobile (optus).

    area: Sydney metro

  • Can we use Woolworths gift vouchers for these?

    • +1

I have no idea if it works right now, but it worked back in January 2024 for someone.

Keep in mind that Woolworths blocks you from using gift cards issued by Woolworths Group to pay for some SIM cards (e.g. I was blocked from using a Woolworths Supermarket gift card and WISH gift card to pay for an Everyday Mobile SIM card late last year).

      • Are you sure?
I recall a starter kit not considered a gift card, a recharge voucher is, the same reason you can get another 10% off this deal if you have insurance with them for the monthly 10% off, offer.

        • +1

I am 110% sure I saw an Items Not Allowed error on the self checkout when I scanned an eGift Card barcode to try and pay for the Everyday Mobile SIM card. I had a mate in a different state on the same day try the same thing as me and run into the same error.

I also ran into the same error three years ago when trying to use a WISH gift card to pay for an Optus SIM card.

Woolworths is obviously not consistent on whether SIM cards can be purchased using gift cards issued by Woolworths Group.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Sure sounds like it :/

          • @WookieMonster: I just checked my eReceipt and can confirm that I bought this back in Feb with my egift card.

          • @WookieMonster: This happened to me last month In Brisbane. Cannot use e gift card preloaded into Everyday Pay to buy Woolworths SIM, even with help with staff.

  • How long do you have to activate it? Amaysim 365-day SIM is expiring in May..

    • All Vodafone SIM's have 12 months to activate, as written on the pack.

      • Other comments seem to suggest to get the bonus data, needs to be activated within a month or so

        • Sorry, yes, if for the extra promotional data, that portion has a different date, if not activated by the promotion end date you can still activate it within 12 months from the purchase date with the standard data included.

  • +5

if you're on Telstra network thinking that this might not be too bad because of the additional 5G… the 5G doesn't help. It's as crap as I last remembered. I'm in Sydney. I miss Boost.

    • +2

What are you doing that you need 5G or let's say 500Mbps download speeds with only 20GB per month? Serious question :)

      • +1

Possibly because some people have had bad experiences with Vodafone before. When I signed up I checked the coverage maps and hoped that having 5G where it was shown on the map would give me better coverage/usable speeds.

Tldr; was probably hoping 5G would make the service usable

    • +2

Same. Voda 5G is worst than 4G or may be 3G on boost and reception is very patchy. I regret my switch from boost.

    • +1

Couldn't agree with you more, constantly 1 bar signal at home in the inner west and at work in the city. Only upside I saw was that I had full bars at IKEA tempe whereas my Boost used to have no service at all.Tempted to just waste my remaining 40gb and switch back to Boost.

  • -2

Vodafone is the worst and the most neglected network. Read better before TPG took over.

  • +1

In my experiences Vodafone network is more stable than Crappy Woolworth Mobile

  • +2

Vodafone Prepaid 5G is really bad in Sydney. If you switch your phone to preference 4G, it's acceptable for the price you pay.

    • +1

You get much superior signal using Vodafone if you ride T4 lane in Sydney

  • Does this have unlimited international calls to select countries?

    • No, I regret I bought this card in Jan

      • +1

But why buy this if you wanted international calls?

        • +1

In that case, probably get the Lebara deal instead as that does have internation calls.

  • +1

    No international call minutes included.
    50 standard international texts

Vodafone website says you get an additional 90GB bonus data on activation. Offer end 09/04/24 and SIM must be activated by 09/04/24.

    • Yes, it is 150GB standard, plus 90Gb if activated by 9/4.
Says same in fine print on the pack.

    • On the vodafone website it has a tick next to international calls. What could it mean?

  • This was $99 5 months ago at Costco.

    • Cool, got a time machine so I can travel back and buy one?

      • +1

Yes, but I don't loan it out for such low rent returns.

    • With the bonus data?

  • Does Apple Watch work with voda prepaid?

    • +1

Nope only post paid monthly plans on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone

    • No Australian network supports Apple Watch on prepaid (PAYG).

  • +6

A few years ago I ported away from Boost to a Vodaphone plan. Now I keep a hammer next to my bed, and every time I see one of these plans that appear to be very good value I pick up the hammer and read the attached plastic card.

"If you are considering going back to Vodaphone, please apply the hammer vigorously to your skull until symptoms recede"

Just remember, lots of data is only useful, if your phone has reception!

  • +5

Can confirm, I've had Woolworths/Telstra/Boost/Optus/Aldi. I'm on the Vodaphone 12 months deal since November, it's had the worst reception of them all. Comments above indeed mention if you dont leave the city, then this deal is possibly for you. But even then I had certain places in Sydney I had 0 reception.

If you value reception stay away.

  • -1

    Hmmm gotta think about this.

    Currently with boost

    • Just try a cheap as chips monthly SIM if you ever want to test it in the areas you use it, no need to be out of pocket more than that for testing.

  • +1

After being with Boost & More I regret getting Vodafone on the last deal. The reception evrywhere is absurdly poor and even worse when you are moving. Unfortunately I have to endure another 10months of horrible network. But never again! Had to get an Amaysim as a backup, so I have dual network going on.

    • +1

I was with boosted and the gimped Hellstra network access was so slow here on Gold Coast, Going to Vodafone 5G I get much faster speeds 99% of the time. So likely area dependent.

      • Definitely any network performance is area dependant. But I have already tested my connectivity at multiple locations across metro Melbourne. Vodafone has certainly has good speed when the coverage is good, but i am talking about how poor the network performs when you are on a train/underground/large venues compared to other networks. I could feel the difference straight away.

  • +1

    eSIM option?

    • I have read that you can switch physical Sim to e-Sim on the Vodafone app. My assumption is it works for both prepaid and post paid.

      https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/device/replace-sim?tabs=…
If you have an eSIM enabled device, you can go from a physical SIM to an eSIM at any time through the My Vodafone app or by heading in store. You can check out our list of eSIM enabled devices on our eSIM support page.

    • Yes, once you get the SIM you can swap to eSIM if you want this Woolworths deal. If not and you are getting a service directly with Vodafone, you can get eSIM from the beginning on both postpaid and prepaid.

  • +1

just bought 2 from townhall. You dont need to wait till tomorrow. Price dropped to $150 already, plus you will receive 2000EDR bonus points per card.

  • Anyone in metro Perth has this and can comment on reception?

    • +1

Don't have this, but have Vodafone. Never had issues in/around Perth.
Some spotty areas on the way down south.
Not great if travelling north or east.

  • As a REA, based on my real life experience, I can say that Telstra does work better in most metro & regional area in Sydney. However, Vodafone is cheaper and the experience can depends on various factors.

    • +1

Brave of you to reveal your occupation!

  • Can you use this to extend your existing Vodafone plan. (same yearly plan)

    • No, new plans only, I was with Vodafone and I purchased an amaysim sim to port out to for a month and then ported back into vodafone for this exact deal back in Dec/Jan

  • I bought this last year and on the card it says must activate by somewhere in Feb 2024 to get the bonus data. When I was about to activate it back in Feb, the date apparently moved to 9/4/24 which is good as that aligns with the expiry of my current mobile plan. They seem to move this date if for those wanting to try their luck

  • I bought one when was half price. I’ll be moving out of amaysim in June. Not happy with amaysim’s reception in Sydney cbd

  • Can you receive sms when overseas?

    • +2

Yes, you can. I was overseas and had Kogan SIM in my phone and I was receiving all SMS messages.

  • +1

So using my Year 9 maths if I use my 10 percent shop, pay with a Dictator Dan 5 percent GC and take in the $10 ER points it works out at 20GB each month for $9.85 and I get to use 5G?

  • My Boost plan expires end of June. As the price has increased I'm wondering whether to get this, unless Aldi come up with another yearly Super Pack before then.

  • Woolies has the $250 sim pack but it says 150gb data and nothing written on it about extra data pack. Is that the same one ?

    • +1

Yes, but you will get extra 90gb on activation.

  • A Q re this; I have been trying to figure out whether this is eligible for Voda's $5/day global roaming offer, or does it just apply to contracted deals?
Does anyone have any intel or experience with this?

  • +1

Can confirm you can use normal woolworths gift cards and ER dollars to pay.

Got 2300 points = ER $11.50 as I am an everyday extra member
