Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable $420 (Was $659) + Delivery ($0 Perth C&C/ in-Store) @ Urban Records

190

Was looking for an entry level turntable for my new Death Grips and Taylor Swift vinyl and came across this deal. Reviews best in class for price.

Will need a pre-amp for which they are offering a Behringer PP400 for $29 (discount applied in cart).

    Returns

Our policy lasts 7 days. If 7 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

Good luck to the consumer who needs to exchange a faulty goods. Good luck to the shop for violating your ACL rights. I would recommend you shop elsewhere.

Surely that's only their return policy relating to change of mind..

      • +4

their choice of wording still makes it illegal

      • +4

There are multiple ACL violations in that policy.

"Only regular priced items may be refunded, unfortunately sale items cannot be refunded."

"Several types of goods are exempt from being returned."

"To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it."

"Lay-by & discounted products can not be returned or exchanged."

Do Australia a solid and report businesses like this. Don't buy from them either.

That returns policy basically tells me they don't believe in faulty goods and if their ridiculous return conditions are met they'll just palm it off to some other sucker.

$420 for an "entry level" turntable?

    Tell him he's dreaming.

      Careful, there are audiophiles here.

Can you suggest a cheaper, similar entry-level turntable?

Arguably the Fluance RT81 is a goer at about $300. Audio Technica make decent automatic model which is a bit cheaper still. Rega is still the sound quality bomb for straight out excellence from its P1 model up but they start at about $650.

Check to see if your TT or receiver/power amplifier has a pre-amp built in - otherwise a decent one starts at about $250.

        Happy hunting.You'll love the sound.

        • I own a Pro-Ject Essential III and quite happy with it after using a basic Sony turntable.

        • I looked at the Fluance but not sure it's possible to get this price in Australia? Happy to be proven wrong.

@insomniaca: Dead right fella. So sorry - I'm an idiot. Crikey!! - audio prices are rocketing faster than Woollies and Coles!!

Peel that back please. . Decent entries = Denon DP29FBKEA (comes with a pre-amp) @ about $275 or Audio-Technica LP60X @ $280ish (auto with pre-amp) or save your pennies and get a Rega.

Of course with Audio you get what you pay for and if you get the premium stuff you'll be keen to match it with equally pricey components. It can be a costly but rewarding rabbit hole.

Can I just mention that we re-purposed old 70's Dual TT and 80's Richter Merlins with a tiny Fosi $100 amp (with bluetooth) in the bedroom. Appears sacrilege, but it sounds seriously deluxe.

      • Please refer to post from bigbin. You can get an "entry level" (aka a decent cheap one) for $280 to $300.

No need to pay $400 to $500.

Depends on your needs and the value/rarity of your LPs ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ

Generally, anything under a few hundred that isn’t correctly set up and serviced is going to damage your records far more quickly and not sound as good.

If you’re playing modern stuff and not too worried about the sound quality, you can get away with an all-in-one alright. They do work!

But as I have a lot of vintage opera records and want to preserve them as best I can, I needed something a bit sturdier. Ended up going with an AT LP-120, managed to find one second hand for $300 (needed to buy a new headshell and cart though which was about $100-$150) and a decent set of speakers from cashies.

So I guess there are degrees of “entry level” as I’d still consider my setup to fit into that category >_<

It’s really what you make of it though!
There are some people who just want to buy a few vinyls and spin em on a cute looking Crosley and there are some people whose ears will bleed listening to anything on Crosley.

Better to have a cheap/shitty setup than to miss out on what could be a fun hobby

      All the best ✌︎('ω')✌︎
