and not an over-hyped media creation

one can believe this and still enjoy some of her music

    • +18

I'm still in the camp of "very confused as to why she has been around for ages, yet had only recently ascended to god-like levels of popularity"

      • +2

folklore and this album put her into more people's radars as it was a departure from her usual music, midnights catered to everyone's tastes, add the re-recordings and people's nostalgia + crazy demand equals what we have now

        • +1

That makes a bit more sense that what the hardcore fans have told me. I feel it needs a sociologist to study this whole phenomenon

Good to see vinyl deals but I'll wait until vinyl are below 20-30 bucks

$27.50 per vinyl so this is within your budget.

Why's JB HiFi prices always so high for Music stuff like CDs and Vinyls in general 😭

    • +7

Niche markets of die-hards who will pay higher prices for the privilege (and novelty for younger gen) of ownership of their media in the streaming age. A lot of people have small collections of their "absolute" favourites so may only spend <$100/year on these things, therefore is a justifiable cost.

This is all, of course, anecdotal based on the people I know/interact with in regards to these topics

Taylor Swift is 2000s? is she still a thing?

      freedomofignorance

    • +22

I love how un-intellectual the right is to the point where they just throw around blanket terms for people they don't like (usually women and minorities) accusing them of being pieces of grand conspiracies if they have values relating to compassion and empathy for people outside the group the identify with.

Considering your use of the term "propaganda", I assume you also keep clear of the Murdoch media empire and online groupthink platforms such as the Daily Wire as well? Wouldn't want to be caught in a bit of hypocrisy now, would we?

      • +2

It has to do with the $75 million or so that has been earmarked to discredit her on social media by the right.

They suck it right up and believe it all

      • -1

i watch fox news not daily wire

      • +2

        Treasure chests?

        • +1

          Oh yeah. My bad

  • +8

It's funny since the right has been trying to discredit her all it has done is given her further publicity. I never used to think much of her or even recognise her, but she's actually a pretty interesting and intelligent person.

I think the media campaign has actually backfired

    • +3

i listened to this album in one sitting on a recommedation and its a very unremarkable album

however saying that… she's the billionaire who runs a SPARE private jet wherever she goes and she has the ability to upset people by asking her fans to… vote?

is that bad? voting isnt a good thing?

      • +2

Yeah, I find her music bland and never paid any attention to her. I was only curious when the upsurge of comments about her and all this private jet business started coming up.

I then found out how much had been earmarked by the right attempting to discredit her. After that I started to read about her and am pretty impressed.

It makes me laugh at how worried the right is, that they wanna blow $75million, not to promote themselves but purely on negative social media on her. Problem is, even the kids now pay more attention and listen to her despite the attacks

      • +1

As much as I hate the private jet thing, I genuinely do think that if she was to fly commercial airlines, the amount of people swarming airports would be next to unmanageable and would impact normal operations, likely compromising safety of staff and travellers who have no idea she’s even there, let alone those that do.

And yeah the voting thing in America is weird but celebrities from all areas of the entertainment industry seem to take it on themselves to encourage people to vote. But to only call out Taylor Swift for this when the majority of other celebs do the same is wild.

  • -2

    No thanks!

    • +8

…no one was offering it to you?

      • -3

        He said no thanks

        • +12

Which is typically a response for if someone offers you something. Glad your comprehension skills are up to par.

  • Yikes, what's up with her vinyl prices. Just checked on Amazon and all her other vinyls are $80 and thereabouts.

As a metal fan I would love to say that her music is expensive but then I paid $90 for Senjutsu from Maiden 2 years ago and the latest Metallica release costs more than $100. So that's the new normal.

    • +1

What did you think of Taylor Swifts black metal album?

      • All i can say is that she is so pale, she doesn't need the corpse paint.

  • Wait, “Evermore”? She must have stolen that title from that obscure Utah theme park! 🤣

  • +1

    Thanks OP, snagged one

  • No. 26 in Music - Carlos Santana - Supernatural - vinyl - $56.

No. 1 in Funk Music - Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californication - vinyl - $57.99.

Has the world completely lost the plot?

  • -8

Ugh…., I wonder what marginally talented artist the music industry will try and sell next, once Miss Swift is no longer in fashion?

    • Still Taylor swift but as a man

  • -2

    Taylor Swift sucks!

    (This is for science)

  • -6

If you are not progressive, Woke, Left or a Socialist you do not display critical thinking and do not deserve to breath the air us intellects do. Taytay has done so much to progress social awareness.

    • +6

Why has this bargain brought out the political idiots? Don't like the music, move on.

      • +1

It's been great for my notifications. And for some light entertainment.

        • Kids can’t handle the banters

  • Tell me another artist who put out 4 exceptional studio albums in 4 years since 2019 time then another new one coming in 2024. Let alone the re-record ones to claim their own music back plus the sold out worldwide tours. No disrespect to Michael Jackson but even he can't match that.

    • I'm not a hater of Swift. More ambivalent to be honest, but the quality of albums is all subjective. Especially when it comes to pop music. Sales = popularity ≠ quality. That's the case in any art form.

Here's a handy flowchart that many in this comment thread could use:

    Upon seeing a deal posted:
Are you interested in purchasing the product and want to investigate further?
YES → Click the deal and join the discussion
NO → Ignore the deal and continue on with your life

Do you still want to click the deal so you can rant and rail against People Liking A Thing You Don't Like?
YES → Reconsider the way you interact with the world, and whether other people enjoying something affects you in any way, at all
    NO → Great job!

What happened to freedom of speech? Bro trying to bring communist over to Australia

      • +1

Do you mean he is trying to bring a communist over to Australia? Or that he's trying to bring communism here?

It's funny how such a rational piece of generic (albeit unsolicited) advice can cause you such discomfort that you need to make another silly, grammatically dubious comment in response. You're doing yourself no favours.

And for the record, there is no right to freedom of speech explicitly laid out in Australia. You're so wrapped up in American political nonsense that it seems you haven't bothered to research that, I guess.

        • +1

          Twinsies!

        • JV forgot to take his med again.

          • @michaelTito: Go find another Taylor Swift post to spread your nonsense on. Seems to be your hobby

            • @Faro: Why are you stalking my profile? Are you being creepy?

            • @Faro: Just block the fool, I have, it'll make your time better here. They can have their "freedom of speech", you just don't have to listen to their ramblings.

          • @michaelTito: She's not alone, clearly…

        • We have Freedom of Speech as per the Bill of Rights 1688 (UK), inherited law..

          • @freedomofspeech: While Australia does not have a Bill of Rights, though the inherited UK Bill of Rights 1688 does have mention of 'freedom of speech', that is:

"That the Freedome of Speech and Debates or Proceedings in Parlyament ought not to be impeached or questioned in any Court or Place out of Parlyament."

We have 'Implied rights' that include: Freedom of political communication because the Constitution created a system of government based on representative democracy.

Australia also adopted International Covenant on Civil Political Rights in 1966, that includes:

            1) Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference.
            2) Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice.
            3) The exercise of the rights provided for in paragraph 2 of this article carries with it special duties and responsibilities. It may therefore be subject to certain restrictions, but these shall only be such as are provided by law and are necessary:
            (a) For respect of the rights or reputations of others;
            (b) For the protection of national security or of public order, or of public health or morals.

Pay attention to section 3: "… It may therefore be subject to certain restrictions, but these shall only be such as are provided by law and are necessary:"

So legally in Australia under the International Rights we agreed too, you can be shut up by the government for being immoral, being disrespectful of others rights, hurting others reputation, causing public disorder, for national security, or for public health reasons.

We, as Australians, do not have a Bill of Rights, or Australian national laws, or any mention in our Constitution to protect "Freedom of Speech" as in the way some ignorant Aussies throw out. We could say "Freedom of opinion and expression as long as we aren't rude" I suppose. Also, just because people can say something, doesn’t mean they should or that others have to listen, agree, or not debate it.

            https://humanrights.gov.au/our-work/rights-and-freedoms/free…

            • +1

@FabMan: But people heard things on TV, and you're making a mess of that education

            • @FabMan: https://humanrights.gov.au/our-work/commission-general/unive…

              Universal Declaration of Human Rights

              Article 19

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

              • @freedomofspeech: I already covered that. That protection by law doesn't work if the opinion and expression interferes with:
                (a) For respect of the rights or reputations of others;
                (b) For the protection of national security or of public order, or of public health or morals.

So slagging off people isn't covered.

I already said "We could say "Freedom of opinion and expression as long as we aren't rude" I suppose"

      • +2

        "freedom of speech"

Is America's first ammendment of their constitution, not Australia's. Non-American's that use it in sincerity are just idiots who are ignorant of what Australia's Constitution is. Also just because you won't be arrested for what you have to say, does anyone really want to listen to your bullshit?

        • I mean I could arrest you for not listen to my bullshit. It’s called citizen arrest.
