I'm not sure "alas" is the word to use here?

    • +3

Not sure why you're being negged. Alas is such a weird choice of word here.

        ChatGPT hates garlic

  • +5

That seems like a lot for a garlic press

    • +1

It's well worth it if you love garlic

      • +1

        I love garlic

      • If you really loved garlic, wouldn't you eat it whole.

    • Buy the plastic one for half the price (roughly). Its very good.

  • But once by a Kuhn Rikon
Stainless steel only not the plastic one

I always found it faster to cut garlic with a knife than wash a garlic press. Now even that is an effort and I use Kirkland minced garlic. Not quite the same, but hard to tell the difference in a finished meal. As they say time=money, so if you're going to be frugal with one …

    • +1

      Where is Kirkland garlic produced?

        • +8

Don't cut yourself on that edge now young fella.

  • +2

Have one of these and love it! Break garlic from the head, crush, eject the skin and go again.

    • +1

Sounds like any garlic press for $5 or less, right?

      • +2

IMO better than any $5 I've ever owned

I have the garject and it really did change everything when it comes to having fresh garlic in my meals. So easy to use.

Garliclets seethe at the amount or fresh garlic I can make in so little time.

I'll admit I laughed and this comment pushed me over the edge to buy one. I'm a sucker for kitchen gadgets, at this rate I'll need a house with 2 kitchens..

  • use a chinese clever to smash garlic, much faster, cleaning a presser is a pain

    • +1

Sounds easy for you, but the Chinese clever may object.

    • The garject is 95% self cleaning

      • So is a Chinese clever. Maybe even higher.

We have this, or at least one that's identical in shape. I can promise you it does rust (very slightly) and is not easy like it promises to be. In particular garlic always gets caught in the hinge. It's usually a toothbrush job and lots of opening/closing to remove. There's always a bit of garlic firmly stuck in a few of the holes too despite the plastic bit that's supposed to poke them out. Somehow it also seems to retain a fair bit of water between the plastic and metal unless having it truly upright to air dry, which would actually be quite difficult to do if it weren't for using our old dishwasher cutlery basket to store stuff while it air dries. I'm sure there's worse, but it does not meet my expectations

"my knockoff isn't as good as the original"

      • Could be the original buddy. I just wanted to temper expectations in case it wasn't an OG. The design is exactly the same so all comments (bar possibly rust) still apply. Did commenting scratch your urge just to reply? ;)

    • We have a plastic version and my findings are the opposite to yours. Its super easy to use. And we chuck it in the dish washer.

  • This seems like a solution looking for a problem.

  • "Chrome plated metal body"? There was not enough dough in the $49 to make it out of stainless steel?

    • it’s probly diecast

  • +1

I use the all stainless steel Joseph Joseph Garlic Rocker Crusher…. No moving parts, just smash the garlic into a chopping board and use a spoon.

Stick in the dishwasher when done.

Bought it expecting it to be a gimmick, but bugger it works well.

Much better than the OXO I was using before.

    • The only problem I've found is the extra smelly skins that get ejected - they either go straight to the outside bin or down the loo 🤫
