      Pays to read

OP literally bolded and put it in capital letters for you.

    • Order total $0.00
      Next payment $5.00
      Next payment due 07/06/2024

    • It appears to be a monthly membership, $5/m AFTER your 3 month free trial.
      CANCEL AT ANY TIME

    • Should have gone to specsavers

      • +1

Yeah time to check my eyes

    • While you can cancel any time, I am pretty sure you will still be charged $45 for the 12 months, since its a 12 month contract.

"This offer provides Eligible Customers with a Three (3) months free subscription to My NRMA Membership over a rolling 12 month contract . (My NRMA Promotional Package). First payment starts at month 4, with total cost of $45 for the first 12 months."

      • Only "pretty sure" D-T?

*Which part of the deal are you negging? The FREE 3 months? The 21 day 20cpl discount?

I can confirm after speaking to NRMA membership that the membership is rolling monthly, cancel at ANY time. If you cancel before your joining date (eg join 8 March, cancel before 8 June) then it will (should) be FREE, after that the debit is $5/month, You will NOT be debited the full annual $45 payment unless you continue for the full 12 months.

HOWEVER, anyone planning to run the course should be aware that after your 12 month expiry MyNRMA will automatically put you onto a 12 month plan, the cost/conditions of which you might not actually like or want.

        • "over a rolling 12 month contract"

          • @D-Train: I think the point being made is that the stated ability to "cancel anytime" supersedes the having to fulfil the full 12-month contract, otherwise you aren't actually able to cancel anytime.

            • @zzyss: It is a contract, Total minimum cost of $45 for the first 12 months. NRMA Blue and now rebranded MyNRMA have always worked like this.

              • +1

@D-Train: This is stated in the FAQ:

                Which membership can I cancel?
Only your My NRMA trial membership via our 3 months free offer is eligible for cancellation within the first 12 months. Any other My NRMA membership or Roadside Assistance membership is not eligible for cancellation before the renewal due date.

                • @zzyss: Yes, but not mentioned in the T&C's.

              • @D-Train: I've already told you what NRMA said, which confirms what most people would likely expect from the T&Cs (rolling monthly, cancel at any time).

To make it abundantly clear: According to NRMA Membership CS, the "contract" is monthly, cancel at any time. $5 for each month/part month you use the service AFTER the 3 month free trial.

If you're paranoid or concerned about NRMA efficiency then do as zzyss said below: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15038553/redir

                • +1

@Igaf: Thanks for making that clear. Do you have the name of the person and their employee ID? Should we just take your word for it or is it listed in the T&C's?

                  • @D-Train: You don't need to take my word for it D-T. Simply confirm for yourself with NRMA. 13 11 22, follow the prompts.

Let us know how you got on because although my CS rep took time to enquire before answering my very specific question about the $5/$45 charge, there's always a chance her supervisor got it wrong.

                    • @Igaf: No thanks.

                      • @D-Train: Wow, that's completely unexpected /s. Afraid your "pretty sure" should have been "I'm completely unsure but…" ?

                        • @Igaf: I didn't mean to make you "Afraid". Sorry if I scared you.

                          • @D-Train: No worries D-T, you didn't.

To make it abundantly clear (again) I was suggesting that you not wanting to get your own clarification from NRMA suggested that YOU were afraid (concerned is a better word) that your measured certainty ('pretty sure') was on very shaky ground.

That said, your observation (and zzyss' corroboration) that NRMA usually doesn't allow early cancellation without penalty is a VERY useful thing to know. So thank you very much for that.

Offer available until Sunday, 31 March.*

    • +1

      No.

      • -3

        Yes, both are for Ampol

        • +2

True, but Ampol is a network of service stations operated by different companies. For example:

          • Ampol Foodary service stations are owned and operated by Ampol themselves.

          • EG Ampol is operated by EG Australia, which is an Ampol franchisee.

In other words, Ampol Foodary and EG Ampol are operated separately, so they independently choose what kinds of discount offers to accept.

My NRMA is exclusive to Ampol Foodary, because NRMA has worked out a deal with Ampol themselves. NRMA does not have any deals with EG Australia, which is why when you go to an EG Ampol and try to use a My NRMA discount, you will not be able to use it.

The Everyday Rewards 18c/L discount you reference is exclusively offered by EG Australia at their EG Ampol service stations.

          • -6

            @WookieMonster:

In other words, Ampol Foodary and EG Ampol are operated separately

            Why?, they are both Ampol.

            https://www.ampol.com.au/

            • +2

@jv: WM has already explained. What part didn't you understand?

            • +2

@jv: They are both Ampol, because they both sell Ampol-branded fuel and they both accept AmpolCard. However, Ampol themselves evidently do not want to operate 1800+ service stations themselves, so they are happy to have other companies (such as EG, Bennetts Petroleum) operate their own service stations, whilst Ampol makes money off being the exclusive fuel supplier to these service stations. The trade-off is that all these companies have a large say in how they operate their service stations, and Ampol is not interested in forcing EG Australia or Bennetts Petroleum or TASCO (or any other franchisee) to accept any discounts from NRMA.

Your argument is a bit like saying that you should be able to go to an independent Mobil service station and redeem a 7-Eleven fuel lock, because 7-Eleven is also part of the Mobil network, sells Mobil fuel and have Mobil branding plastered all over the 7-Eleven service stations.

              • -1

                @WookieMonster:

Mobil service station and redeem a 7-Eleven fuel lock

Mobil and 7-Eleven are different companies though. Ampol is not

      • -1

WM, what about Ampol Woolworths? Can I redeem this offer at Ampol Woolworths?

        • The bonus fuel offer:

          a. is only available at any Ampol Foodary location. For participating locations, visit mynrma.com.au/ampol.

          b. is not available at EG Woolworths service stations.

          • @Igaf: Yep I had read the whole thing before I posted my comment but it didn't really answer my question, hence my asking to WM. WM is really great and helpful when it comes to this kind of stuff.

        • What do you mean by “Ampol Woolworths”?

          • If you are talking about Ampol Woolworths MetroGo (the service stations operated by Ampol), that is dead. Those were rebranded to Ampol Foodary late last year (and yes, they would accept this fuel offer).

          • If you are talking about EG Ampol (the service stations that largely used to be operated by Woolworths under the Caltex Woolworths and Woolworths Petrol brands), they will not accept this fuel offer, as EG Ampol do not accept any offers from NRMA.

          • @WookieMonster: I've been using PetrolSpy app and they have Ampol Foodary, Ampol Wooloworths and EG Ampol there. Looks like Ampol Woolworths fall under your first bullet point and therefore are included in this offer

            • +2

@foxes28: PetrolSpy is inconsistent with how they brand Ampol service stations. For example:

              • If you filter on the “Ampol Woolworths” logo, nearly all of these will be Ampol Foodary service stations. However, if you look more closely, there are some service stations under this logo actually called “Woolworths Ampol” (e.g. “Woolworths Ampol Narellan” (NSW), “Woolworths Ampol Kempsey” (NSW)). For these two examples, a quick Google search indicates they are EG Ampol service stations, not Ampol Foodary service stations.

              • PetrolSpy says there is an EG Ampol in Mittagong called “EG Ampol Mittagong”, but it is tagged as an Ampol service station, not an EG Ampol service station. That means if you filter on the EG Ampol logo, you will miss this service station.

              • PetrolSpy says there is an EG Ampol service station in New Town (TAS), but it is actually an Ampol Foodary service station.

              Confusing, isn’t it?

              • +1

@WookieMonster: The MyNRMA app has red markers on participating outlets, under FUEL.

Click the "fuel" button on the My NRMA app homescreen
Search for a suburb or address in the map
Locate the red "Benefit" pins on the map
                Click "Get directions"

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Even more confusing, same address: 117 Seven Hills Rd, Baulkham Hills NSW 2153

                • Ampol says it's an Ampol Foodary
                • PetrolSpy says it's an Ampol Woolworths
                • Google Maps says it's an U-go
                • @foxes28: I am so CONFUSED now…. 🥴

                • +1

@foxes28: I had a look at that address on Google Street View, and it shows it is an Ampol Foodary (and if you go back far enough in time, you will see it was once part of the Caltex Woolworths joint venture).

                • @foxes28: THe NRMA app agrees with google. Says it's an unmanned U-Go.

The nearest "Benefit" station according to the NRMA app appears to be Ampol Seven Hills, 38 Abbott Rd. Anoither nearby at 105 Station Rd Seven Hills, marginally cheaper atm

If you drive by it would be interesting to know which is most current.

Edit- google maps has a Feb 2024 photo showing it as a manned U-Go

                  • @Igaf: https://www.mynrma.com.au/membership/benefits/ampol says it's an Ampol Foodary. So the NRMA app and website are not synced.

                    • @foxes28: Not surprised. Probably too complex and fraught for websites using google maps to link live, hence: "Map correct as at 2 November 2023" on that link you posted. Almost certainly why MyToyota completely dumped the website version for the phone app.

                • @foxes28: U-Go seems to be the (unmanned locations) subsidiary of Ampol, and seems to not accept the Ampolcard although it is mentioned in their privacy policy.
IIRC U-Go don't offer the discounts that Ampol Retail Pty Ltd t/as Ampol Foodary does.

                  https://www.ugoselfserve.com.au/privacy-policy

    • Sadly, not in my app

      • Nor in mine.

  • Would this work with Free2Go plan?

  • Sorry for the threadjack, but if my membership is about to expire, and they don't have any stored payment method, will the membership lapse, or will they renew it and try and get you to pay? (I don't and I won't, so no harm done, just the embuggerance of being hassled and/or having to cancel with them).

LOL: just asked on chat, and they said it'll lapse and not attempt to renew. Then as soon as I said thanks they terminated the conversation. Rude!

  • In the t&cs it says for the 20c bonus fuel it may take upto 5 dys to appear in the app and can be used once a day for 21 days, so the 20c vk us can be used everyday for 21 days?

Does someone know where you can it say 20c off fuel?

    • Follow the NRMA instructions and if you qualify you'll get a QR code sent to your MyNRMA phone app within 5 days (probably much faster). Don't fill up before then or you won't get the discount.

When you refuel at participating servos (red tag on the fuel map within the NRMA app) you open your app wallet and the attendant will scan the QR code for 20cpl off your fill.

I suggest you read the deal info closely and peruse the deal comments.

      • Thanks. Can it be used more than once? I can see in the fuel map for the participating locations, it shows the benefit amount, which currently shows 5-6c, so it show 20c if I've got the 20c?

        • Can it be used more than once?

Read my deal post above, the dot points will answer most of your questions. There are some VERY important details you need to be aware of.

I can see in the fuel map for the participating locations, it shows the benefit amount, which currently shows 5-6c, so it show 20c if I've got the 20c?

The map probably shows the STANDARD Member Benefit (discount). It's possible but I think very unlikely that maps will show individual Member Benefits (existing members only get the 'standard' offering, which is probably what their maps always show). Someone who has just joined and used their offer might be able to confirm.

If you're a NEW member, and you did as NRMA instructed, then your new QR code should register as 20cpl off. The QR code is a graphic blob as you know and doesn't visually indicate what discount you're eligible for. If you don't get the full 20cpl then you should contact NRMA - ie don't waste the servo attendant's, and your own, time and energy trying to sort it out on the spot**.

          • @Igaf: I received the 20c off and used it yesterday, but today in the app, it doesn’t show 20c discount, if I look at the fuel locations, it shows 5c off,
            T&c:

            f. can only be used for one transaction per day, to fill a maximum of 120 litres.

            • @ClaudeVL: Thanks for the feeback Claude. xers made the same observation below https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15059763/redir based only on app info.
It appears that no-one has yet actually tested "f" (the 21 day limit on 20cpl fills)

It would be uselful if you/another new member tried a second fill with a just a couple of litres so we know for sure that there's a glitch in their app. We could then advise NRMA and ask them to fix the app problem and/or (worst case scenario) report them for misleading and deceptive conduct.

I didn't bother checking when I used my introductory offer quite a while back (under NRMA Blue) but I did get multiple uses at the higher discount.

My guess is that the app only shows the standard long-running discount available. Having a different map/notice for different categories of MyNRMA members is probably quite a bit of extra programming work, although FAR from impossible.

Any chance you can do the test for us as a community service?

            • @ClaudeVL: Hi ClaudeVL. They've changed the offer to a single fill, probably what it was meant to be before NRMA incompetence/bad mgt/poor communication took over.

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15077691/redir

    Subtotal$5.00*

*No monthly fee for 3 months. Billing starts from the 4th month onwards"

The link however does say '3 months free TRIAL' , so you would think OP is correct and they just haven't updated the terms to match yet.

    • Thanks JL. That's interesting, they appear to have removed the Cancel At Any Time reference from their T&Cs, possibly as a result of queries like mine to their customer service. My deal details were a copy paste from their website. A less specific reference is still in their FAQs.
      Which membership can I cancel?
Only your My NRMA trial membership via our 3 months free offer is eligible for cancellation within the first 12 months. Any other My NRMA membership or Roadside Assistance membership is not eligible for cancellation before the renewal due date.

It's also explicitly stated on the offer webpage: https://www.mynrma.com.au/join-mynrma Save 20c/L on fuel
For a limited time, save a massive 20c/L when you fill up at Ampol Foodary locations simply by joining My NRMA free for 3 months. Cancel anytime.

Legally then, if you joined before they removed that important detail you can cancel, after and you probably might get the runaround.

      I'll update the deal.

  • The "save 20c/L" now appears on my app - expires 1 April 2024

    • +1

    • Date varies - 21 days after it appears in your app, although on other special deals NRMA CSwasn't able to tell me if it expired at the end or beginning of the expiry day (presumably 11:59:50pm).

  • Thanks OP. Just filled up for $1.619/l at my local Ampol.

  • I just scanned the QR code for ampol but got no discount! Is it a scam?

    • +1

Describe the exact process and where you filled up and we might be able to assist.

      • If you tried to stack another discount then you may have had only one accepted. Happened to me recently with the standard 5cpl discount - worked but didn't stack with the Ww Rewards 4cpl off.
      • If you went to the wrong Ampol then you're done.
      • If your code was used already today then you're done.
      • If you followed proceduresin the deal/T&Cs and didn't get it then you should ring NRMA and ask them to refund you the difference. Someone did this on a previous NRMA offer and was refunded so there's a precedent.

Did you try to stack with another discount? If so, it's likely Ampol's P.O.S automatically striked out the first discount to prevent stacking.

If you were at an EG Ampol (Formerly Woolworths Caltex), the attendant in most cases should stop you and explain that they don't accept the discount, as they are EG selling Ampol fuels.

If you went to an independent/franchisee Ampol (a non-Foodary branded site), then you're done.

  • I went to the ampol foodary next Thornlie square and scan my QR code I got that day when I checked out. No discount.

    • Did you meet all the criteria - eg new member, etc? Did anyone have access to/use your code today (eg did you share it)?

That servo shows as a Benefit station so you should have received some discount (5cpl), even if the 20cpl code for some reason didn't come through.

      Possible Attendant Error
One possibility is attendant error. Did he/she say there was no discount applied? Did you ask the attendant to rescan the code? Sometimes they don't scan the QR image properly and it takes a second go before it registers.

      NRMA Enquiry
Do you have the fuel receipt? If so contact NRMA 131122, follow the prompts, and explain what happened. If I were you I wouldn't accept a fob off like "we'll send you a new code", I'd ask for a refund of the amount owing.

It's a pita but you could test it by going back to the same servo and putting 1 itre in tomorrow (obviously make sure the attendant scans the phone properly).

  • I'll try today

    • How did you go?

  • I don't think this is once a day like the T&Cs say. Used mine successfully on Tuesday but it's not showing up again in my app yesterday or today.

I note the SMS I received also says "Save 20c/L off fuel on your next 1 fill…"

    • Previously the QR code remained in your app "forever", the only thing which changed was the discount applied. Maybe the app coders haven't implemented it properly?

Interested to see if anyone tests it. Just add a couple of litres each day.

    • I am facing the same issue. Seems like its one use per account instead of one use per day multiple days :(

When I first got the notification the offer is ready, it says “discount on your next 1 fill”. Gave them benefit of the doubt thinking it may just be wording error as the T&C says you can get the discount once a day until it’s expired. Filled up the second time today and found out the 20c discount didn’t apply.

    • Thanks f28. I'll contact them and see what they have to say about their "error".

If I were you I'd do the same. I'd also suggest they should refund the difference AND fix your QR code for the 21 day period, as per their clearly stated T&Cs. It may work better if you email them so you have eveything in writing - or get the details of the recorded conversation.

This is likely a fu by either the app managers or whoever was responsble for releasing the T&Cs but could also be interpreted as bait and switch. Even if they amend the T&Cs they need to honour the terms of the deal for existing new members.

      • Reached out to their social media last night. They’ve read my message but hasn’t responded. Will try email later tonight if still no response.

Had a chat with online support this morning. They responded with "it only applies for 1 fill" then I pointed out the T&C. They said I should call 13 11 22 but don't think I can be bothered. Probably a good idea to update the desc with this information.

    • Thanks for following it up f28, much appreciated.

Spoke to them this morning. They have at some point updated the offer page with the following, but failed to update the T&Cs. As many Ozbargainers would know from experience, modern website QC and mgt can be abysmal.

3 month MyNRMA: This offer is only available to new NRMA Members who do not hold an active NRMA Membership. Under this offer, My NRMA is free for the first 3 months and $5 per month from month 4 onwards on a rolling 12 month contract. Minimum commitment is 12 months with a total minimum cost of $45 over this period. Offer is only available on monthly payments and is not valid for annual payments. Offer period is from 27 February to 22 March 2024. This offer available online only and is not valid in conjunction with any other offer. Please note that My NRMA does not include roadside assistance.

Ampol bonus fuel offer: New Members who take up the 3 months free MyNRMA offer during the promotional period automatically qualify for the Ampol bonus fuel offer. The bonus fuel offer is a one-time only discount of 20 cent per litre at participating Ampol locations. This offer applies to Premium fuels (Vortex Premium 98, Vortex Premium 95, Vortex Premium Diesel, Amplify Premium Unleaded, Amplify Premium Diesel) and Regular fuels (Unleaded, E10, Diesel). The Ampol bonus fuel offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. See full T&Cs below. The Ampol bonus fuel offer can only be redeemed via the my nrma app

The 20cpl offer is a use once ONLY.

      • Thanks for that. I've just now cancelled my membership.

Minimum commitment is 12 months with a total minimum cost of $45 over this period.

Not sure what this means, as I was able to cancel without issue.

        • Thanks, was just about to highlight that.

Given NRMA's wavering/"competence", if anyone joined without the intention of continuing their membership beyond the 3 month free trial then to avoid hassles they should make sure they cancel before the trial ends (and probably remove any payment details in their membership account).

  • Anyone still seeing the 20c discount after already using it once? The welcome email says "Save 20c/L off fuel on your next fill before 01 April 2024….". Seems like it was valid for the first fill only. Curious to know what their ad or T&C stated.
