The prices and links I've listed here are for the batteries as they were originally sold (brand new).

This is our first time selling refurbished products.

This is our first time selling refurbished products.

So how is it a bargain? they are not new.

You are just advertising. ie. SPAM

            • +7

@jv: Why can't refurbs be bargains? $8 for a 9ah battery with warranty is objectively a good deal.

              • +1

                @Hinee:

                Why can't refurbs be bargains?

They can, when they are discounted from the normal price of the same refurbs…

OP has not shown why these are bargains?

Are these refurbs cheaper than from other places that sell them?

Also you can't compare them to new ones.
OP has stated that some are not in good condition too…

                • +2

@jv: I appreciate your feedback. What I meant is that we will keep only the batteries that have been tested and are suitable for sale. I apologize for any confusion caused by my wording.

            • @jv: You must be new here 😭

          • -1

@boost2023: Misleading to quote prices of new items when you're selling refurbs.

            • +1

@m9: Thank you for pointing that out. I apologize for any confusion caused.

how do you 'refurb' a lead acid battery? I get you can pull cells on a lithium and the smarter bmc will tell you what is happening, but on a lead acid - this is an interesting question.

    • Some lead acid batteries are from older stock, while some have been returned by customers. However, we typically send them new replacements directly. Some of the batteries are actually in good condition.

        Batterylotto

        • i think more ozbarginers would buy it if it was called battery lotto: clearance of blah and blah

        • +1

We can provide warranty certificates for those refurbs.

      • +2

So - you tested them? do they come with a condition report - like the discharge graphs the standard product has?

I feel that a 'refurb' lead acid battery is really a 'mis-label' here.

        • +1

Yes, they are all tested. If you prefer, we can provide equipment in our warehouse for you to conduct a full discharge test.

        • +1

We cannot sell them as new ones. Therefore, we have to resort to this method. Do you have any better suggestions? Thank you!

Do you have any better suggestions?

Advertise them on a selling platform… Try facebook, gumtree, ebay etc…..

@jv: Thank you for your suggestion. We appreciate your feedback and will consider better ways to post here in the future.

@boost2023: take anything jv says with a grain of salt.

There is nothing wrong with posting refurb deals. Any normal person would use their own judgement to know if $6 is a good price

                • @Hinee:

There is nothing wrong with posting refurb deals.

If they are cheaper than other refurb deals for the same product…. Read the posting rules.

                  CHECK competitors prices before posting.

@jv: I'm aware of the rules.

Summarise briefly why it is a bargain - why did you buy it or consider it worth sharing? How does the price compare to elsewhere? Can you comment from personal experience on the quality of the product?

Those three examples are just that. They're suggestions to improve the deal. The OP doesn't have a precedent for comparable items and it is not a requirement one is provided. They provided the new price as some reference and it is up to the the community to decide if these are a deal. In my opinion the deal speaks for itself for $6 a piece. You refuse to even acknowledge this.

The OP doesn't have a precedent for comparable items

Still, they're required to justify why this is a bargain…
What are similar items priced sold elsewhere.

                      • -2

@jv: Mods here dont care as long as it generates traffic for the website. Once upon a time there were rules that were followed. Now its all just about clicks

  • +1

Appreciate what you're trying to do rep, but admitting you've never sold them before, therefore it's impossible to qualify as a bargain and then stating that only "some" of the batteries you're trying to sell are in good condition. It's not stacking up, and seems to me like you're just advertising something for sale. Hard no from me.

    • +1

I appreciate your feedback. What I meant is that we will retain only the batteries that have been tested and are suitable for sale.

      • +1

It's not all bad, I didn't know these were used in offgrid power solutions, and appear to be a viable + better priced product than a TPW, so I've started doing some reading into it.

        • +2

I'm glad to hear that you found the information useful! Thank you for taking the time to look into it further.

          • +2

@boost2023: In light of the fact there was a communication error about the "good condition" batteries it's only fair I revoke the neg. Good luck with the next post.

            • +2

@Ham Dragon: Thank you so much for your understanding. We'll ensure clearer communication next time. Best of luck with your future endeavours.

Tough crowd… You regularly see Mac, Dell, etc refurbs listed here for $xxx or xx% cheaper than the new price and no one bats an eyelid. BTW not affiliated in any way with the seller. The price for the 12V9A is pretty awesome BTW.

My only suggestion to OP is the warranty on the Lithium batteries is nowhere reflective of the price being asked. ie 12V9A new is $26 and 1 year, refurb is $8 and 6 months. Yeah at that price definitely worth it.

But step to 48V 100 Ah at $2800 and 10-year warranty vs $1800 for a refurb with a 1-year warranty, tell'em his dreaming. For $1800 I'd expect 7 years warranty. If you want to give only 1 year warranty on an $1800 then you either need to adjust the price down or adjust the warranty up.

refurbs listed here for $xxx or xx% cheaper than the new price

No, they usually posted when there is a discount to the regular refurb price… eg. ebay 22% off codes.

      • +3

I've seen plenty of refurb-only posts here over the years. What do you know here's one from 3 days ago:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/834305

Not a single person asked what the "regular" refurb price was to quantify whether it was a bargain or not.

  • +2

But don't these SLA batteries have a shelf life? Just because they happen to still measure greater than 12.00V doesn't mean they are actually going to do their job.

And OP give us a discount code, otherwise its just normal refurb pricing.

    • There have been several refurb deals posted - even new items posted - without discount codes. They’re nice to have but not a requirement for a deal.

  • Do you guys do the refurbs yourselves?

I have a Puri XL EBIKE from 2019 (https://web.archive.org/web/20180312015811/http://puriebike.…) and it's battery has been shot for a good year or two. Would like to revive the thing, or buy a new one, but batteries are so damn expensive and every time I think I've found the right type I'm not 100% it is and then it stays in the back yard collecting rust for another 6 months until I think about it again.

It's a 48v20ah batt, big boy. I'd love to buy a new one, send mine in for refurb, both, idk, either way, I miss my little moped. This something you boys could help with?

    • Do you guys do the refurbs yourselves?

From the comments above, all they do is test them, not refurb…

  • @boost2023

Are you able to give us some more details - e.g.

    Minimum/Average/Maximum Age
    Minimum/Average/Maximum Tested Capacity
    Minimum/Average/Maximum Tested Internal Resistance?

Having that sort of info will allow interested purchasers to make a better informed decision on whether these are a good bargain for their use.

    • Pretty sure theres been very little refurbishment that has occurred here. For $6 a battery is anyone really going to spend hours doing testing? The warranty is a false reassurance mechanism. Sure some will fail but how many customers will chase a replacement or refund for a $6 battery?

  • +3

The battery link says they have a 5 year maintenance free shelf life. Can you date the batteries via serial number? I'm not knocking your company in any way but my locl recycler sells the 7ah batteries for $2 a battery and I've had good luck with most of them. Yours may be way better but at 9 times the price……

And refurbished is not a word I would have in your ad. Call them seconds call them old stock but refurbished suggests you have done something to bring them close to new

  • Refurbished products would be as-new.

This is 2nd hand / new-old stock unless the internals have been replaced.

  • Add a 10% coupon code OZBARGAIN for 48hrs & you will earn some kudos here.

  • If you’re trying to gauge value, I’d probably shop these against a brand new RUiXU battery which have been reviewed by Will Prowse. Their 48V 100Ah battery is $2,299ea but a 10% off promo brings it to $2,069.10ea. Shipping is $350 flat rate or local pick up in Fairfield East (Sydney).

I don't get how refurb lead acids are a good idea, at all, or a bargain.
