Seems like a decent deal considering the recent price rises for NVMe drives.

yep, have been no real deals since xmas last year
:( damn
Maybe I'll just get the ozb fav - Kingston 1tb Gen 4 for $89
Or this 1tb Gen 3 for $82There were/are deals since then, just that they had/have minor issues:
- PNY 4TB USB 3.2 gen 2x2 external SSD for $200 + postage (issue: heat, thermal throttle)
- Acer Predator GM7000 4TB $407.31 (has DRAM, flagship class performance) (issue: Amazon JP direct, not through Amazon AU)
- Verbatim Vi7000g NVMe M.2 Internal 2TB SSD (with Heatsink) $154.75 (issue: likely now Maxio + YMTC NAND, price is still reasonable, but not a bargain)
It does look like WD cleared their SN570 stock here and will now push people towards SN580.
Yeah the deals I'm thinking are more like these on xmas which were fantastic pricing
Samsung T7 Portable SSD (Red): 1TB $86.20, 2TB $142.84 Delivered @ Amazon US via AU
[Back Order] Samsung 980 Pro 2TB with Heatsink NVMe M.2 SSD $143.16 Delivered @ Amazon US via AU
The situation of sub 70 ssd was because there a company in china figure out the way to stack more level of nand and bring the price down to sround $40 per tb to enter the market, but recently they got enough market in china and raise the price. However, the recent ssd price raise is really weird anyway
interesting!
I just found this from msy 500gb/$36 but OOShttps://www.msy.com.au/product/pny-cs2140-500gb-pcie-gen4-m-…
Nah, YMTC had to wait till Maxio released a controller that's cost effective and can compete. Then, it had to bring in its best NAND to attract people. Other companies are using 232L NAND for PCIe gen 5 x4 SSDs, although due to not selling well, one maker did release a PCIe gen 4 x4 SSD model with that same type of NAND. Unlike YMTC, a controller that supports DRAM is used.
The reality is that YMTC is too late to PCIe gen 4 x4 and their previous gen NAND had issues and YMTC had no solution on that (or couldn't be bothered to offer even a workaround). It is also unclear whether YMTC is bumping up the prices or their resellers are milking the customers because it is well know that YMTC stockpiled 2 years+ worth of NAND chips.
The real mess is YMTC's 128L NAND. If you don't check it and you ended up getting the previous gen one, you'd better hope you got the SSD dirt cheap.
Yeah, i hope they can catch up faster, i really need some 2tb 4.0 ssd under $100. i bought their 2tb 3.0ssd for $90 when its on sale, regret did buy another one.
@twdjlzl: YMTC PCIe gen 3 x4 SSDs, you are brave. They are the ones with slow old data read issue which YMTC never bothered releasing even a workaround for it.
Also, NQ790 in Australia are poorly priced. It's a joke they cost more than NM790 last year.
@netsurfer: no problem with my one so far, used it for at least 6 month with about 35tb read and write, i used it as a external hard drive anyway.
@twdjlzl: Taobao deals? If yes, you guys just keep on showing off having the ability to buy on Taobao with RMB. Anyway, previous gen YMTC NAND based SSDs are on my blacklist.
Question - would the 5 year warranty apply here if we bought it from Amazon dE?
Amazon AU will manage the warranty service (they will take care of the return and deal with Amazon DE). That is only applicable if you purchase from Amazon AU web site, and the seller is Amazon DE. If you purchased directly from Amazon DE web site directly, then you need to contact Amazon DE and sort it out with Amazon DE.
You cannot contact WD Australia for warranty service.
I just contacted amazon support and they told that they will assist for 2 years (basically they will refund the item). After 2 years you need to contact amazon germany and in theory they will take care to ship it back to germany.
Thanks for the info. That is different to what I was informed last year by an Amazon CSR. The support rep informed me to still contact Amazon AU after 2 years. Seems like Amazon AU could be changing its support for these.
This is a good deal. Not the best. But a good deal rn
Do these run hot?
ALERT ALERT HAS DROPPED TO $231.36
Has just dropped again to $228.88.
I don’t know if I’m allowed to update the post.
So I guess I shouldn't be holding out for a sub $70 1TB NVMe?
