What's the roast date? Can't see it mentioned anywhere.

Aldi coffee beans has the roast date on the pack so at least you can check it in store.

    • Does Aldi have the roast date? I've never noticed. I've only seen Expiry date.

      • +8

Under the Expiry Date is the Batch Number. Read that backwards for the roast date eg 240218 is 18/2/24

        • wow. You learn something new everyday! Thank you

Surely aldi beans are a better idea than this

    • I picked up 1KG of Aldi Medium for around $14-$15 (it was a few bucks more than the dark roast) last week and I like it. It does have the roast date of 29/01/2024. However, I very rarely get to Aldi so often stock up on Harris Smooth for the filter coffee machine.

Aldi dark gives me terrible heartburn, but the rest of the Aldi beans I do rate. I'll try this Harris Smooth tho, why not.

      • I tried Harris once and never again, perhaps they have improved it since then (probably 3 years ago) or it just wasn't for me. You'll have to let us know what you think as I love the Aldi ones, particularly the Brazil one.

        • +1

I did like Brazil a lot. I've been buying medium because it's cheaper, a bit too mild for me but very drinkable still. Better too mild than too acidic.

      • I love the Aldi Dark. Always come back to them.

  • Can anyone vouch for this? I usually just get the Coles brand coffee beans.

    • I’ve bought Harris from the supermarket before and it was fine. Not amazing not trash. I found it mild, but it may have been the weaker variant.

It’s something you need to try yourself to decide, notice Aldi coffee gets all these awards personally think it tastes like 💩, been purchasing Harris for last few years no issue, no short date like some claim, taste is decent not going to blow you away but does the job, recommend the “strong” pack or latte for a bit weaker, haven’t tried the extra strong yet

Asked my barista friend and said this brand is too oily

      • Whi Aldi ones have you tried? They have the cheaper ones and the slightly more expensive ones.
The Brazil one IMO is incredible, rich smooth flavour, and a great brew.

        • cant remember was last year, good chance I picked up the wrong one, probably the cheaper one being a ozb tight ass lol, something have to try again as the the first try was awful

looking at this article think it was the arabica

        • Each to their own but I tried the Brazil blend and did not like it, I prefer Grinders Crema far more.

  • Used to be $10 :-(

    • Inflation + price gouging have entered the chat

This is when Colesworth screwed Harris over. When their beans were about $15 back then, they were pretty good quality.
Colesworth screwed their prices down, quality dropped, Harris has jacked the price up but the quality has never been the same as it was back then.
Their Columbia beans were excellent back in the day.

  • Same price for the ground ones.

Aldi 1kg ones are whole beans. At Coles, only the strong one is ground for the 1 kg pack.

I use all of them and usually mix them up. Grinding the Aldi beans is a chore.

I've tried every hipster coffee blend in Australia, paid $450 a kilo once, I consider myself a coffee snob, the Aldi medium roast is probably the best bang for buck out there, it's our family go to now. We still do occasionally spoil ourselves with the more exxy stuff but honestly, you can't beat that Aldi medium roast for an all rounder.

Pretty much agree with this too.

    • Nope I don't think you're a coffee snob.

  • I just buy Bushell's in the cardboard and tin capped container now. That way I'm not buying plastic. On top of this, they donate to Ronald Mcdonald house Charities.

no roast date these could be months old who knows. I am pretty sure there not freshly roasted thats for sure.

Aldi beans are by far better. And better yet, they are roasted local and very much recent roasted too. I used to buy Harris but after a while you realise they've been sitting around for months after roasting and are usually stale.

For those who do not know, Aldi beans roasting date is on the pack. If you look under the date on a bag of Aldi beans you will see 6 numbers. In the example image below, you see B 240212. This is the roast date or batch date, 12th of February 2024.
