  • what does 2LP Vinyl mean and why is this so expensive??

    • Click the link and look at the 3rd pic on the left

    • 2LP = double press

Vinyls still hold value surprisingly, I think it saw an uprise during COVID as people started to appreciate the little things a bit more.

Never understood the hype on Kendrick Lamar, much better artist out there with half the recognition

    • Agreed. He lost to Macklemore at the Grammys in 2014.

Can you recommend me some artists to listen to?

      • +2

        Joel Turner.

I hate today's rap, it's all auto-tune and mumble rap. The lyrics in their songs suck and have no meaning. The only "current" artist I listen to is J.Cole.
If you're into old school rap like me, listen to Nas, Tupac, Biggie, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, OutKast, A Tribe Called Quest etc.

        • +3

I love J Cole. Wet Dreamz is a banger.

I've never heard of the old school rappers you listed. I'll check them out. Thanks!

        • +3

Big L, , Company Flow, De La Soul, Eric B & Rakim, 90's Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel, Big Pun, Jeru the Damaja, GangStarr, Common, Freddie Foxxx

Nah theres heaps out there, youre just being lazy. Benny the Butcher, Boldy James, Ransom, Roc Marciano, JID, Conway the machine, Navy Blue, Loyle Carner, Che Noir, Rome Streetz etc etc. And i come from the same era, have seen Wu Tang, Nas and Mobb Deep multiple times. Was at The Pharcyde last week even. Hip hop is alive and well.

          • @astrotrain: Bang on. Throw Westside Gunn, curren$y, Elcamino and Lord Juco in there as well. So much good stuff coming out on a regular basis these days.

            Just wish they’d tour Australia.

          • @astrotrain: Will give some of the recommendations a listen. Some of today's hip hop has kinda put me off listening to the genre, but like you said there's heaps of talented artists out there that I haven't been exposed to yet.

        • +1

Except it's not, you just need to evolve with the music.

You can appreicate both old and new school at the same time.

        • As other commenters mentioned, you aren't looking in the right places. I love all the artists you mentioned, and Kendrick can absolutely go toe-to-toe with them lyrically. Have you even listened to a Kendrick song? Does this sound like mumble rap to you?. He's carrying the torch and keeping hip hop at the best it can be.

          • @poppingtags: I probably wasn't clear in mentioning that I am a big Kendrick fan, have been a couple of his concerts and have listened to his whole discography. The shitty lyrics/no meaning comment wasn't aimed at Kendrick, I was just referring to some of today mainstream rap that's on the radio.

Maybe my hip hop music range isn't as widespread as the other commenters are, but i will take on board the recommendations of others and give them a listen.

Music is subjective so there are always people who's music are universally liked/praised, while others may not appreciate them.

Nailed it with this comment. Although I do love me some Migos.

        • "lyrics in their songs suck and have no meaning" is quite a hilarious statement to make on a post about Kendrick Lamar.

          • @MightyMouse: Wasn't referring to Kendrick as the one with the shitty lyrics, as his songwriting is on another level. That was directed at the artists with Lil' in front of their name. I love Kendrick Lamar, have listened to him since day dot and been to 2 of his concerts. TPAB is a masterpiece.

This album was his peak, he went downhill rapidly from here

Y'all taste level at Kendrick's waist level.

GKMC and TPAB are both modern classics. Few have pushed artistry in Hip Hop in the way that he has in the last decade.

      • lol I have all his albums on vinyl, including 3 pressings of GKMC. I'm still waiting for @DoUKnowTheMuffinMan to recommend me some better artists.

        • I suspected it was in jest, I can't wait to see their reccs.

I got the Black Ice Deluxe pressing of GKMC, with the blacked out cover art, sounds incredible!

      • Amen. He blew up quick and disppeared, same can be said for a few other modern artitsts.

      • Once I started seeing RM Williams boots posts with hundreds of votes, I knew all I needed to know about these OzBargain folk and their taste

Vinyl prices really have gotten silly now, that this is a deal (and yes it is a moderate one!) is indicative of how silly they are right now.

      i remember wheh amazon had 2 for 1 LP's + a $20 new account bonus…2LP- even 3LP - albums for $5-10 each…my only regret was i didnt get more :(

      • Yes i remember this! It was when Amazon prime first launched. I wish i bought a bunch more as well, i got maybe 30 albums for around $15-20 each Jay-Z, Kanye, Blackstar, Asap Rocky, Kendrick etc… its kinda crazy seeing these albums now going for $60+ now. Then again i still remember buying Bob Marley and Dire Straits records for $3 it the early 2000s:(
