Probably check rates first without CR and then check incognito with CR.

    • Does it change? :O

      • Yes it does

        • Is it the case with Booking.com too?

          • @RickyPoontang: I think all the major booking sites are owned by one giant company

          • @RickyPoontang: I just booked my hotels via Booking (12% cashback @shopback). The rates is the same without Shopback and incognito with Shopback.

I find not signing into my agoda account and accessing hotel rates via Google hotel search gets me the best rates over any ‘member’ discounts or cashbacks.

On the rare occasion, a cashback is worth it but most times, the prices are inflated when you’ve got the cashback deal on.

    • Agoda has the dodgiest pricing in my experience. Different ways of accessing the site give different prices. Not seen it on Booking/Expedia/Wotif aside from mobile site having cheaper prices sometimes.

      • Yep definitely dodgy! But most of the time still cheaper than Booking and Expedia.

      • agree. whenever i've looked to use these, the final price was more (inc cashback) than just going direct to the website and not using it.

Ive had great deals using cash rewards and booking.com - no price inflation. Maybe wait for their next 10% offer?

    • Yeah I agree. Whilst I posted this I only ever do booking cashrewards/shopback combo

    • There is 10% right now on SB, though personally I wait for 12% on Booking if I can.

  • 10% isn't particularly good in general for hotel sites, Expedia/Wotif go to 14/14.5% regularly and Booking does 12% regularly. Plus Agoda jacks prices up the most blatantly when CB is active and also seems to have the most complaints about CB not coming through.

FYI Booking com has 10% right now on SB if you need to book today, I'd prefer that to 10% at Agoda.

  • Yesterday, I tried to book a hotel in France using Top Cashback 10% off. The place showed no availability. However Expedia and Booking.com show availability. So double-check.

  • Compare with MASTERAU8 as well on Expedia as I found that to be better for bookings to Japan I did last week. Rather a cash discount upfront than a CR later.

    • Problem with coupons usually is that you can only use X times, while an optimal strategy for booking hotels is to book early and then cancel and rebook if it becomes cheaper (usually 2-3 months put is cheapest but sometimes earlier or later is cheaper). Doing it via cashback you can do this infinite times, while coupon usually has a usage limit.

Also you usually have to prepay with coupon so have to take interest into account (another 3% for 6 months ahead booking).

      • Understand your rationale. I do the same strategy as you booking and rebooking just using coupon codes. Never ever have hit this limited coupon limit you mentioned though.
