  • Do you have tips for drying old (1 year) filament? Mine is getting brittle, hoping to not have to buy a filament dryer..

    • oven 6 hours 50-60c

Could pick up a cheap or used food dehydrator as an alternative

I think there are 3 schools of thought around this:

      • Filament drier: obviously $$ for a specific purpose, works well, relatively fast, but you can print from it.
      • Food dehydrator: can be found for cheaper, also works well, can sometimes fit multiple spools, but you can't print from it.
      • Using an oven: something I highly recommend against, especially for anything that isn't PLA, as filament can release VOCs that you don't want anywhere near where you cook your food! They're also wildly inaccurate sometimes and melt spools without hesitation :D

Pick your poison. Would recommend a dehydrator if you're looking to not have to buy a proper drier.

      • Always wondered why people suggest putting filament in the oven, I wouldn’t want that kind of stuff near my food

    • If you're doing this 3d printing stuff in the long run I'd say just buy a dehydrator…

The sort of stuff you could probably get cheap 2nd hand, if Kmart and the like weren't cheap enough.

How does this compare to the 5kg Kingroon PLA which is <$15/kg shipped from AliExpress?

    • +1

Obviously bias - I've only tried their 1kg PLA spools, where I had some issues with inconsistent filament diameter, but that was a while ago. So if you're after the cheapest you can find, and you haven't had any issues with theirs, I don't think there's much I can do to convince you! :D

      • Thanks for a genuine reply. I might try them. For $10/kg I'll keep my expectations low

Siddament PLA is 17.99/roll at full price, still cheaper than the bundles you have

    • If he has what you want in stock, go for it :)

  • got any cheaper carbon petg? or something that will give the same finish and strength

    • Unfortunately not - though our next shipment might decrease the price of our existing PETG-CF quite a bit :)
