Citizen Promaster Marine "Godzilla Limited Edition" BJ8056-01E $850.00 Delivered @ Linda and Co

AMJJ6YRT

5 year Australian warranty from Citizen Australia

Since Promaster was introduced in 1954, we awakened something, and now it has returned: meet the Citizen Godzilla X Promaster Dive 70th Anniversary Limited Edition.

This special Promaster Godzilla collaboration model is designed to celebrate the “King of the Monsters” and marks three and half decades since the introduction of the first Promaster in a new timepiece that is a powerful, dive-ready companion with plenty of titan charm.

A robust 48.2mm gray stainless steel case in a rugged Promaster Dive silhouette anchors the style, with a laser-applied camouflage pattern accenting the look, hiding Godzilla in plain sight while recalling the beast’s scaly skin, and the creature feature continues on the case back etched with Godzilla’s footprint.

This tough exterior has earned the watch the nickname “Ecozilla” from fans, a combination of Eco-Drive and Godzilla.

A water resistance of up to 300M ensures professional-grade diving capabilities, while a high legibility black dial accented with the unique camouflage pattern and bold luminous hands and markers ensures ready-for-action wear.

Paired with a durable and environmentally friendly black polyurethane strap that was created with biomass-derived materials, this iconic collector’s watch is sustainably powered by any light with Eco-Drive technology that never needs a battery. Caliber B873.

This 48mm watch has non-standard lugs which means you're stuck with the rubber strap. Not sure why they do this.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE-DXNnIUF8

  • Discounted $850 watch should have sapphire glass (at RRP)

    • This doesn't appear to be the dive watch you are looking for.

Maybe the Steeldive SD1970 when it's on special next.

      • +1

        How good is the sd1970

        • +1

Sold mine a bit cheap $70-80. Have stopped buying cheap homages but that's a Solid choice for sure. Don't mind a couple with originality.

          • @G-rig: Dats cheap
Knowing you it was prob mint condition too haha damn

            • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Only paid $100 or so and can buy for that again but have to wait for one of the big yearly sales and/or cashback. Got that Willard special edition so didn't really need both.

    • It would be nice and not too much to ask for a $1200 watch. For a untilitarian looking diver I don't think you need it anyway, it's not a nice looking dress watch.

None of my Citizens even have sapphire except for that land titanium one.

      • it's not a nice looking dress watch.

Exactly why you dont want to get the glass scratched accidently on walls, tables etc

        • Obviously don't buy this one then if that's what you want, not sure if interested. I still think it should have sapphire for the price, but not a pretty watch or anything (and huge).

Which Gozilla: Shin Gozilla or Gozilla minus one or…?

    • "the 35th anniversary of the first Godzilla movie."

    • +1

      -Runnnn it’s Godzillaaaaaa

      • It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws - it's not
      • +1

It is - the Toho licensing is engraved on the case back

    • @Speckled Jim: It's a "Godzilla for Godsake" watch, worth every penny 😊

  • What the hell is this?

    A extra-chunky-bezel Tuna? 😵

The real estate on the bezel looks about the same as the actual dial..? That's wildly confusing.

Edit: I sort of dig the stealthy colours though..

    • +1

It's awful mate. Recent Citizen stuff looks cheap and poorly designed to my eyes.

      • You just have to be selective, citizen are doing some great stuff these days. Have a look at the Land promaster titanium, fantastic purchase for $500 this year (and sapphire crystal).
        https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-titanium-mens-watch-bn0241-59…

Similarly, there are a lot of boring and average Seiko models.

        • That does look like a gorgeous watch!

That one is hella light overall yeah? Think I saw the post and how some people went titanium and could never go back.. 😅

          • +1

@WasBargain: Yeah a few people have them and favorite watch. Very light and comfortable, conforms beautifully, even on smaller wrists.

            • @G-rig: Yeah, thanks for that..

I've now also added it to the wishlist.. 😪

Will have to keep an eye out for that $400 price again..

              • @WasBargain: Was 500 but I'll keep a lookout too 😉

                • @G-rig: Oh yeah, my bad.. 😅 I'm only on my 2nd coffee today.. 😪 Brain be fartin'.

        • If you need the textured green, I guess.

This was $199 recently, also eco / Ti / sapphire:
          https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-eco-drive-titanium-mens-watch…

    • The Ecozilla is a cult watch. If you have to ask you don't understand, as they say.

  • Ok so other than the stupid foot print on the back what makes this Godzilla edition. I would of expected something on the bezel or watch face itself.

    • Unlike all of Seiko's unofficial nicknames, this is on the citizen site. Most don't have too much of a backstory.

      https://www.citizenwatches.com.au/products/bj8056-01e

    • There is, but you have to go looking - it is deliberately hidden; a bit like ol' Godzilla himself, he hides until he decides to show himself.

  • the onlyu thing that really stops me buying is the proprietary band. Cant use other options and not a fan of the expansion area.

    • The band looks good though and matching hardware, so I'd just leave it on that. Good point though and always appreciate standard 20mm lugs. It's a massive watch but I think it's would look good on you.

      • i just saw you can get an adapter to convert to standardized lugs. Now it makes it worth investing in this model.

        • Cool , I think the strap looks good but see how you go. You'd want pretty big arms I am assuming.

          • @G-rig: strap is ok, but with the adapter if allows you to use other straps that could be more comfortable and match the dial better. Citizen straps are a bit stiff and hurt my wrist as they press a bit much.

            • @Bruno28: Yeah most are very hard on the divers (like hard plastic almost) and the first thing I take off but you'd hope this one is a bit more premium (softer) for the bloody price.

            • +1

@Bruno28: Seems overpriced for a quartz solar dive watch when you can get a Fugu auto today for $349.

              • @WatchNerd: Agree, I wouldn't pay 800-900 and kind of weak theme (but also cool).

That Fugu is nice, shame not eco-drive.
Not buying any more autos unless a few go.
Also prefer the 42mm versions in auto but 44mm ok in eco-drive (lighter and sit flat).

                • @G-rig: The carbon fibre touches are nice.
It's expensive to have carbon on watches.

                  • @Bruno28: Yep I appreciate it if it actually saves some weight. Anyway sounds like you're keen on it, it's a bit bold watch.

                    • @G-rig: im keen if it was a bit lower in price for discount. Doesn't meet the price for the budget watch category that it falls under to me.
Would only be a watch i use once a month. I have others that would win the wrist time.

                      • @Bruno28: Maybe just get nerds suggestion, would be pretty good and more wear out of it and way cheaper. Wouldn't even buy one at all of only wearing once a month (unless you got 30 watches)

                        • +1

@G-rig: the problem is greeter than 30 watches hahah

                          • +1

                            @Bruno28: Suspected as much, haha

                            • @G-rig: hahah, im working on it to deduce to about 20. I realised i shouldn't need too many things in life.

                              • @Bruno28: Yeah same, after a while it's pointless, quality over quantity. Too easy to pick up a few too many 300-500$ watches with all the killer deals.

                                • +1

@G-rig: I would say 80% of them are quality watches. I have the occasional Seiko and citizen and some small brand that are quality.
I'll keep some of the cheaper under $1000 watches because I like the look, such as LumTec, Bolido, chronotechna and some vintage Gshocks. It's not all about the price, to me its how excited you get to wear them.

Sold a Tag Heuer tourbillion which was the nicest I had and that thing was a retail of 35.5k. Which is insane but didn't get me as excited as some others.

My favourite brands are Grand Seiko and Sinn, specially the U1. Damasko is also a micro brand that does amazing watches.

                                  • @Bruno28: Sounds like you're well into the hobby mate :P
Agree it's not always about the cost but the overall enjoyment and fun factor some watches present.
You also get some God-Tier casios/G-shocks that are impossible not to like.

Nice, I hear of Sinn mentioned a lot more these days, they sounds top notch, German watch making at it's finest.
The U1 would be a bit big for me, one of the reasons i sold my Oris Aquis 43.5mm.

The Citizen Chronomaster aq4030-51a is still on my list, would love a classy JDM GADA with high accuracy quartz.

Perhaps a [Citizen Super titanium with Non-Reflective Sapphire Crystal]https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-automatic-mens-watch-nb6004-83e/) would be a better choice than Godzilla the if you are after a beefy tough Citizen diver.

                                    • @G-rig: Yeah i have 3 casio gshock that are 25 years old. All titanium and they look so cool. Found them on ebay for about $300 each.
And one of the nicest GShock MRG-G1000DC-1AJR in all titanium, which is a looker.

i would suggest you look at the Sinn U50 then, its all the same as U1, but smaller case, 500m instead of 1000m and its got the SW300 movement which is a slight upgrade to the U1 SW200.

that Citizen Chronomaster aq4030-51a looks a look like a Grand Seiko Snowflake.

I have that citizen nb6004-83e, its very nice, but very tall case, at 15mm high. but very light because its titanium. I like it a lot. The accuracy just isnt that good, im getting +14.8spd.

                                      • @Bruno28: Cheers will check it out, Sinn is probably a very solid choice of diver for a bit more spend once you are happy to spend over $1500-3000. Much better proposition than overpriced Oris' etc.

Agree, I don't like divers over ~12-13mm thick, gets a bit too much.

                                      • @Bruno28: AU$3,860 for the u50 with solid bracelet doesn't seem too bad compared to some other prices. Wonder if Define watches any good.

Still cheaper and better than a Seamaster.

                                        • @G-rig: $3860 is a good price for u50, i thought they were over $4500.

Ive bought three U1 and a 104 from Define, they are the Australian Sinn AD. They are reliable and the owner is Peter. Give them a call if you want to get to talk to them for peace of mind.
Ive paid via bank transfer and no issues on all 4 ive bought.

                                          • @Bruno28: Cool thanks for the info, yes no worries with Define, just haven't come across them but can see they are an AD.

I'd probably get the rubber strap for comfort, the clasp on the bracelet doesn't look up to the same standard as the rest of the watch (even though you should buy on bracelet first). The U50 looks good though, better bezel action, thinner and movement a bit better (lume similar but possibly a tad brighter).

I'm guessing these would never be that cheap, there was a 6 months wait at one point.

May not be worth selling a bunch of other watches though.

                  • @Bruno28:

It's expensive to have carbon on watches.

It was $49 on my TWs.
                    Damn near killed me!

                    • @Speckled Jim: not sure those are real cabon fibre or just a pattern looking like one. Having forged carbon on case (not just weaved carbon fribre), lugs and bezel is another level. A Tag Heuer with carbon lugs and bezel goes for 5 figures.

                      • @Bruno28: It's not high-end CF, but some variation of CFRP for the case. That stuff is cheap as chips in the RC hobby world too. Resembles the chopped carbon used for trims by some car makers.

Starbuy and TWS specs claimed carbon dial, and I can confirm it's the more familiar criss-cross weave.

                        • @Speckled Jim: Yeah im aware on the hobby, specially on rc cars and helicopters which ive played with, even designed 2 drone frames. But its just weave pattern not forged carbon. I think the watch manufacturers just put a premium because they can.

Easy to cut a carbon sheet that is weaved in cycles, but harder to do a bezel and case in difficult shapes and that wont delaminate.

                          • @Bruno28: I've had the case-backs off, and seen the insides of four lugs. No mistaking it.
Happy for everyone else to think they're cheap plastic. They look it from a metre away.

                      • @Bruno28: Better off getting a carbon road bike for $5k, haha

                        • @G-rig: are they that cheap now? i remember when bikes were 12k and up for full carbon.

                          • @Bruno28: Can be as cheap or expensive as you want to make it.

  • Dammit I missed this. I was looking at these over the weekend too.

Although it needed to be the BJ8059-03Z red dial version - the OP's description of the dial colour is incorrect.

  • Anyone received theirs and can give some feedback on how it is?
