    FYI - CAMELx3 shows $145 lowest price btw Nov and end-Dec '23

Thanks OP, I think I will grab one for my upcoming build. Time to start piecing her all together OZB style (i.e. it will take 2 years of scouring these pages to get all pieces at ATL by then which this SSD will be very outdated)

They have been around $100 previously. Considering the 990 is out its not the best deal

    • +6

Yeah, the 2tb regularly gets to around $180.

      • +9

I bought 2tb with heatsink for about $144 two months ago from Amazon US.

        • Yeah it gets cheap, i just meant that it regularly gets to around that. Think I've only seen it a few times at around $150?

    avoid centrecom, they're dogs

    • Which shop is the best place to go to?

    • +1

wait what is wrong with centrecom? I have been shopping with them for ~2 years

Be aware that there are now a bunch of faster SSD out there, so if you have not checked Tom's HW reviews for a while do it before buying assuming it is still king of the SSD's.

    • +2

That may be true, but real world differences are negligible to the end user anyway…

      • Pro is for a reason and it is for speed and endurance, so not for the average user.

Real world pro users see a huge difference between 3,500 and 7,000 MB/s. Makes a huge difference for data loads, saving and processing as well as compile times.

      • The problem is, based on real world differences, 980 Pro 1TB at this price doesn't make sense. People who read reviews on latest SSDs will feel 980 Pro 1TB are at the bottom of PCIe gen 4 x4 flagship, especially most reviews don't really talk about full drive sustained write (and let's be honest, most people get excited about the initial high write speed, rather than the final total time taken for the entire drive).

Not a bad deal, but more a + vote for not saying this if your first post.

  • Is this a deal? I got my 2tb for around this sort of money.

    Will this work with PS4?

    • Google and check if you need the one with the heat sink.

      • He mentioned PS4.

    • +1

If you want to put it inside a PS4, then you need a SATA SSD. If you want to use it via USB 3, then you need an enclosure. However, given that PS4 only supports USB 3.0, it is an overkill getting 980 Pro.

If it was a typo and you meant PS5, then yes, it is supported. However, you probably want to get at least a cheap heatsink (~$5-$7 from AliExpress, except if you don't get one of those ones with 14 days postage, the current dirt cheap postage ones are super slow and unreliable).

    • No, it won't work with the PS4, as it needs a 2.5 SATA drive. This m.2 drive uses the NVMe interface.

  • No, the Samsung 980 pro will not work with the PS4. But it will work with the PS5

      Doesn't the ps5 basically have a 1tb sad anyway?

Whats the benefit of putting this instead?

      • +1

Ah I see it's expanded storage in addition to ps5 console storage.

  • Is this one a better buy for the PC (I don't have a ps5):
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09Q2NCFS7/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1…

    • Assuming Corsair hasn't swap the components inside, then it might be a better buy for PS5. For PC, it depends on whether Corsair released a firmware to address its performance issue. It is one of the slowest Phison E18 based SSDs around. If I had to guess and assuming the subpar performance is not firmware related, it could be due to having less spare cells in the SSD (to cut down the cost) so it has to use a very conservative SLC cache to retain its TBW rating. Hopefully, it is just a firmware geared towards PS5 issue. In real world usage, even on PC, it is fine. It's just other Phison E18 SSDs perform really well.

Unless the heatsink is a must, if you must get an SSD right now (and has to be flagship class), maybe consider KC3000 2TB. If you don't need one right now, I suggest wait till May / June (end of financial year) as there will likely be some sales around that time. SSD makers can't and won't do fire sales like they did late last year. Also, there isn't a huge demand for SSDs right now (most OZBers bargain hunting should have already got their bargain SSDs purchased last year).

not really a deal you can get faster 1tb drives for around $110, 2tb has been around $150 before https://www.umart.com.au/product/kingston-kc3000-1tb-pcie-4-… is way faster and only $119 (non sale price). i dont know why this deal is getting any upvotes

    • Sn850x is readily available for 149 at scorptec, i think it’s not really a bargain considering what i would pay for one. But then if you look at the market, its actually quite a big difference from what everyone else is selling for.

    • NAND prices have skyrocketed, it won't be back to anywhere near $150 for years. I'd get in now, prices are still expected to go up this year.

  • I recall getting two of these around three to four months ago for $160 went halves with a mate.

Not an amazing deal, it's okay if you need one now but there are commonly better deals and alternative drive options too
