I was just looking at some of the specials on Dell's site and came across there Dell U2410 which hasn't been on special for quite some time.

Having used this monitor for quite some time it's an exceptional screen with true IPS technology, fully factory calibrated & 1.07 billion colour depth with a 12 bit internal processing.

  • awesome monitor with a good aspect ratio.

  • quite some time

  • +1

Is this worth the extra money over other Dell Monitors when they're on special?

I don't have much experience with Dell Monitors, so forgive my ignorance but is the difference really that noticeable or is it only really worth it for people dealing with photo editing ?

    Thanks

    • Given the 2412M is normally on sale for $279 and therefore this is nearly 40% more, I would personally say it's not worth the premium if you don't need the additional gamut, or the extra features (extra inputs etc). Having said that, I'd probably still just splash the cash as a 'just in case'.

    • If you don't know whether you need it, you don't :) In that case, the 2412M is the one you want.

  • In particular I would like to know the difference to the U2412 that regularly goes for $279 (down from $399). I currently have a 2408 and think it is a great monitor.

  • how much this monitor better compare with UltraSharp U2412M?

    • +3

You lose the memory card reader (freaking handy), component and composite video (Less useful, as most analogue equipment like old consoles doesn't look great on it)and HDMI port

Less brightness (Both are searingly bright at max). The main thing is the color gamut supported. Frankly this is the kind of thing where if you need it, you'll know (Print media, graphic design etc)

I'd recomend the 2412 for 90% of people , when it's on sale that is

    • Factory calibrated 8bit (with 10bit internal) 96% aRGB coverage vs 6 bit, 74.3% aRGB. Very different beasts.

Of course, if you aren't a photographer or designer, none of this matters. But it's one of the nicest 24" monitors you can get for under 2k.

  • No one mentioned gaming?

I guess it's not the preferred monitor for gaming

Gaming is fine but this monitor is preferred by photographers as you get very accurate colors. Most dedicated gamers would look into getting a screen that can output 120Hz.

  • Awesome monitor, I absolutely love mine. Definitely a good buy. A friend of mine has the U2412M and even though it's a newer monitor, it just seems cheaply made in comparison.

  • 6ms (gray to gray) Typical

    Nice :)

If only i had room on my desk :(

  • I've had this monitor for nearly 2 years and have nothing but good things to say about it. I don't do a lot of photo/design/graphic work but appreciate the high colour gamut. I leave it in Adobe RGB mode all the time as I prefer the increased colour depth. Looks amazing for movies/games, there is no input lag whatsoever. The memory card reader is a great convenience also.

I had one issue where the power button blue on light stopped working for about 6 months, though it now suddenly works again.

  • Missed out on this one :-( Hopefully there will be a new deal soon…
