I got 3x of these for $180 each. Other stores wouldn't price match.

    • +1

Yep I tried! $249 is still a bargain I reckon!

      • Got this now at my local ALDI store: https://ibb.co/rFFxXvJ
$299 for 32 LG Smart monitor, comes with remote and has WebOS

        • +24

That is a 1080p "smart" monitor.

        • +6

You bought a turkey for PC use. Not bad a a small TV.

        • You bought a computer-less tv, the size of a monitor. If you only had one device in a house this would be great for a single person TV or large desk display. At only 1080p it's a bit silly to talk about HDR content but I'm sure the IPS screen is actually very nice

        • Edit: I bought the one advertised for $180 from Cranbourne East Aldi store.

I was just alerting you guys that there is another one they have on sale at the moment in my local Aldi. Wouldn't buy it either because that's full hd

          • @codename47: When did you buy it? I'm wondering if they still have stock for it. Thanks

            • +1

@ezhang6767: They only had about 4 units. I got 3 for myself and mates. None left when I inquired again.

    • Where from?

    • +19

True, my store has a few at $249 but I feel I have to return my OzBargain badge if I pay more than $180.

      That is how I roll.

      • Understood for sure. I tried a LOT! Wore the $69 difference and still happy with the $249 price.

        • +3

          You did OK.

So now the hunt for me continues for an even better 4k monitor bargain. Haha I enjoy it!

      • Haha , Gold Badge

      • +1

how do you do you get it for $180?

    • +1

How did you get for $180?

      • +5

Clearance items of a certain age are often marked down at the store manager's discretion

    • -1

It's already cheap. Where did you price match?

    • How will be the gaming on this monitor? Any suggestions?

      • How powerful is your PC. 4K takes a lot of power to run and only 60hz it won be the best.

    • Would you happen to have a photo of the receipt? I'll try my luck with the local stores.

      • Good luck. I tried local stores and head office. Not one bit of interest.

If it was in their catalogue for sale last Sat, I can tell you there was none in Garden City Upper Mount Gravatt that morning, when I checked their site it states it experience delay so does it mean some stores did somehow get some ? It shows as $299 in their catalogue, how they already dropped to $249 on Monday is beyond me !

    • +4

This one was from much older catalog…not from last Saturday. The latest ones they have been advertising are 1080p but higher refresh rates.

  • $499 at Amazon (sorry for the last link I used):

Bit odd, it says: This item will be released on March 29, 2024.Pre-order now.

I can't see these in Aldi's back catalog of Special Buys - only the 32" FHD smart monitor. Does anyone have a link?

    • Nope I can't find them either. They were $349 when I first saw them. Then $299 then $249….

  • are any of the 'my local Aldis' or 'local ALDI stores' around Newcastle ? I'd love to get one of these for 249, Thanks in advance

You will have to go store to store.

There are 3 left in Cessnock if you can be bothered with the drive

      • Thank you !

  • Honestly for a 2nd productivity monitor this is good value.
    Which I currently need.

    • i've got 2 x 24 dell monitors at home, i shouldn't upgrade when my monitors still work ok right?

      • +5

You’re on the wrong website, somewhat ironically. I guess it’s OzBargain, not OzFrugal though.

Do you have enough screen real estate already?

      • +3

        You absolutely should!
1x 4K at 100% scaling is better than 2 x anything with a lower resolution.

        • now to somehow convince my wife to make the purchase lol
and also trying to find the monitor at aldi lol

          • @prankster: 2 x 1080p is more productive than 1 x 4K
and less demanding on the pc..

if you watch alot of 1080p content, it would look less sharp on the 4K monitor.
if you do watch the occasional 4k video then it does look really good on the 4K monitor though
however most content people watch videos in 720p and 1080p.

        • depends..

          I think for productivity
          2 x 1080p is more better
since you can run both windows at full screen
as well it being quicker to maximise windows rather than snapping the windows side by side on the 4K screen
and two snapped windows on the 4K screen is smaller width than 2x1080p

At 32" 4K 100% scaling is too small
the recommended scaling is 150% on windows

          • @pinkybrain: Yeah this is just a home work setup - got the monitors connected to targus docks and not to a Pc so yeah

          • @pinkybrain: I agree it depends.

4K width (3840) is literally double that of 1080p (1920), so the difference is pretty much the size of the border. Although in 1080p you will also have that window border?
With 4K I have pretty much 2 double-height 1080p displays in one if I choose to use it like that. Or I can have 4 x 1080p displays in one.

I use windows key left and right to snap, so it's pretty much just as fast for me. Although, with a single screen you can easily flick the mouse left or right as well.

I use a my 27" 4K screen at 100%. 32" would be better, but my 42" 4K is too big for productivity.

            At home I use a 27" 4K and 27" 1440p, and at my job I had 2 x 24" 1080p. I would choose 1 x 4K over 2 x 1080p all day every day.
The only way I would have 2 x 1080p is if you use remote desktop. I prefer running that full screen on a secondary screen over using it in a smaller window.

            • -1

              @WorstAgreeableRadish:

              not that simple,
you also have to take the size of the 4K monitor into account

4 x 1080p displays on 32" means the windows are quite small and not that useful.

              1 x 4K over 2 x 1080p all day every day

not sure what apps you regularly use
but for most people they got the browser as their main app + some other apps..

              For productivity
It would not be that nice to use 1 x 4K monitor with the browser snapped to one side window and some other app to snapped to the other side window.
The browser window would be feel very cramped to use, not to mention the number of visible tabs would reduced.

              I would rather 2 x 1080p 24".
with the browser maximised to 1 monitor and other monitor would have other apps..
This would effectively make the 2 x 1080p 24" much more productive since you can essentially have the browser app on 1 monitor + 1 or or more apps on the second monitor..

This much more productive than 1 x 4k with essentially 2 or 4 snapped windows which is not good since those windows would feel very cramped and not as useable.

I use a my 27" 4K screen at 100%. 32" would be better, but my 42" 4K is too big for productivity.

If you running 32" at 4K,
100% scaling is too small for icons and text..
that is why windows recommends 150%.

              Yeah I also test 42" 4K at a store
and too big for any windows to be maximize (except for watching a youtube or movie video in full screen)
For desktop use I found it was only comfortable to use the browser as a smaller windows at the bottom of the monitor..

Generally I think snapping windows on 1 monitor is not as using those windows in maximize state on separate monitors.
I only snap windows if I have to, rather than I want to..

              • @pinkybrain: Disagree with you on the more productive and being too small.
4K 32” is the equivelant of 4x 16” 1080p. That is significantly more screen space.
Laptops now days go 13” 1080p

The biggest advantage is the vertical real estate. If I have a long spreadsheet or webpage, I can get it to take up half the screen (2x1080p) in an instant.

Snapping is so easy, have you tried using the mouse to move the window to a corner? Snapping is even better on Windows 11. On a Mac yeah it’s not as easy.

Personally I don’t scale, but can understand many people do. While Windows recommends 150% most people I know that scale only do 125%.

Have switched from 2x1080p to 4K 32 and could never go back. My use case is productivity (Excel, Word, Webpages) and not watching videos.

              • @pinkybrain: I agree, for just browsing, 4K at 100% isn't ideal to have the browser full screen. It is too wide to use comfortably, and even the height isn't useful for most sites.

I use things like Visual Studio, photoshop and Excel full screen. Most other things I use windowed, but then I can have a browser or whatever open on the side. For those apps listed, 1080p is too short and too narrow. 1440p is OK, but then only for the one app, not the app and a browser side by side.

Like I said, I use a 27" 4K monitor at 100% scaling. Text and icons are ever so slightly too small for comfortable usage without my glasses, but if the size is upped to 32" it would probably be perfect for me.
What I do miss, is the extra smoothness that 150% scaling brings to everything. I think that is why windows always recommends 150%, to give you better looking icons and text. For a 32" at arm's length, I don't see how 100% scaling at 4K would be too small.
                I would love a 6K or 8K 32" monitor that I can run at 150% or 200% scaling.

          • @pinkybrain: I am using this 32" 4K with a secondary 24" 1080p. Good combo, even if the 24" is a nicer IPS display.

150% scaling, but love the extra real estate for spreadsheets and email inbox.

            • @boxall:

I am using this 32" 4K with a secondary 24" 1080p. Good combo, even if the 24" is a nicer IPS display.

              yeah

the point I was making is for productivity
              - 2 multimonitor ( 2 x 1080p or 1080p+whatever monitor or 4K + whatever monitor) is better than 1 monitor (4K)

Snapping 2 windows on 1 monitor (4K) is not that good to use
cos it would be very cramp to use since
most people's main app is the browser.

from a windows alignment usage or sim racing setup
then the 2 or 3 monitors @ 1080p is better

          • @pinkybrain: Depends what you mean by productivity. I found 1080p impossible to work with these days. Just looks like a blurry mess given we're so used to high ppi screens.

You just get so much more real estate with 4K. It's so much better for Excel and I can easily do 125% scaling for a 32" 4K monitor.

When working with really large spreadsheets, I can even do 100% scaling and sit closer and it's awesome how much can fit on the screen!

        • 2x 24/25" with QHD resolution is the sweet spot I reckon. My home setup is 1x 27" 4K and it works well, but productivity on 2x25" with crisp QHD resolution for readability is much better.

  • How does this compare with the Dell S2721QS? I think 32 inch size suits 4k better than Dell's 27 inch.

    • +3

I have Dell S2721Q and LG 32UR500 on my Home/Work Setup.
Dell is IPS and LG is VA panel. So Side viewing angles on LG is bad compared to Dell which is perfect.

      • Appreciate your comment 🙏

If i could find one for $180 i would pull the trigger, i don't need one but that price would be a steal

      Thanks

  • excuse my ignorance, would this be suitable for graphic design and some 4k video editing?

    • Colour accuracy could be a little better but yes it's definitely still suitable

    • +3

would this be suitable for graphic design

      You need IPS

    • +2

If you are serious about graphic design and color accuracy, get an IPS screen.

  • Do I have to visit store to store to try find $180? I can't call Aldi?

    • +2

Aldi can't help over the phone and in store I could not get them to price match. They don't have a price match policy.

      • +1

        Thank you

      • how did people get it for $180?

  • Forgive my ignorance but how good are these as a monitor for a M1 Mac?
I know Mac’s have blurred fonts if not on a 4K screen. Would this fine? I don’t see mention of USB-C/Thunderbolt.

    • 2x HDMI and 1x Display Port on these. I have one

    • Mac’s have blurred fonts if not on a 4K screen.

This is the opposite of what the situation is.

MacOS uses integer scaling from 1440p, so what that means is that 4K will have blurry fonts, and 5K will be clear.

Overall, it's just an example of Apple trying to drive sales of their own 5K displays, but if you're happy with a 1440p display then it's fine. Or get a 4K monitor that's large enough to just use 100% scaling.

      • Thx @p1 ama for sharing a more accurate definition of the problem. I was assuming any 4K monitor would resolve the aggravating Mac blurry font issue.
How would I identify which monitors are 'large enough to use 100% scaling'?
I'm not in the market for 5K and just want a monitor that displays font clearly from my M1 Mac.

        • I'd say 32" is a bit too small to use at 100%. You'd probably be looking at like 40"+ to comfortably use at 100% scaling.

You could just aim for 1440p, which is a decent resolution for 27" or 32".

      • There are workarounds - try BetterDisplay.

    • It's a mac thing, you need BetterDisplay - it's free and works. Need to setup a couple things to make it work on yrs, google it.

      • +1

        Thx for the tip.

    • Straight from the specs via the link above:

    250 nits for HDR….LOL !

I know it is cheap but this is misleading and some non-tech savvy people might buy into it and expect HDR 10 performance while watching Netflix.

    • +4

If you aren't tech savvy you probably don't know what HDR is and if you are then you will know what to expect at this price point.

      • +1

"But my friend says HDR is good right? It gives me better image quality. So this must be a good monitor."

      • +1

        not really..

some people have heard of HDR but not know the full technical details
so they still think any HDR label on a monitor would be good

        • So true.

  • +1

very tempting to upgrade from my Viewsonic 32" 2k monitor for video editing… but with VA is the picture quality good?

    • +1

I am just using it for general office work. It is not as bright as a 24" IPS I have beside it but still works well. Videos look great.

    • If your current display is IPS, you'll notice that it's not as good with brightness, viewing angles, colours, vibrancy…etc.

VA supposedly has better blacks, so could be better if you're using it in dim environments. In daylight, IPS is better.

  • +4

    (HDR10)Peak Brightness (Typ.) [cd/m²] 250.

Why do companies advertise HDR10 but the peak brightness is an abysmal 250nits? There are plenty of monitors that go to 300-400 and don't use that label.

    • +2

It is all marketing. Just like some TVs will say this is HDMI 2.1 which is PS5 compatible. And a small print that says maximum frame rate is 60hz.

250 nits is the same brightness as my shitty work Dell Latitude laptop. It is horrible.

      • +1

Truly, 250 nits is very weak. I've personally only used monitors that go to 300nits and I thought that was serviceable in my bright room but just barely enough. I cannot imagine it going lower. But at this price a 4k 32 inch monitor with a VA panel is a decent buy I guess. I just wish they'd stop advertising things with such misleading statements.

  • -1

I have a 27" QHD IPS Viewsonic, the colour on it is terrible (weird oversaturated reds that I can't seem to fix by adjusting the settings). I'm an amateur photographer so like accurate colour, I'd worry about VA, but feel it can't be much worse than the shitty Viewsonic I have.

    • Commenting that u have a different monitor you dont like, with a different panel, coz same brand is peak weaksauce.

      • So brand doesn't matter? It tells me ViewSonic don't value colour accuracy

  • Riverlink Ipswich have 2 left at $249.

  • +1

As of 4pm, The Gap had 4 of the 1080 smart monitors but none of the 4K model mentioned here. So either they sold quick after you posted or you saw the wrong thing. The staff didn’t know much about it. Just that “one ultra wide monitor” was sold earlier.

    • None at Warner or Albany Creek either.

      • Got the last one from Strathpine just before they closed tonight. Nothing at Carseldine.

    • 100% there were 4 left of the 4K ones there on Sunday late AM. Next to the smaller Lenovo gaming monitors.

Happy to share receipt if there is doubt.

      • +1

Haha all good man, must have been snapped up fast, as they should have been! Absolute steal at that price.

  • I bought one and there was one left at Aldi Bundoora. I think it's 31.5" cause it's smaller than my previous 32". I like it. Cheers fam.

  • Anyone know if there is any stock left in Sydney stores?

    • @Kunalb84 Did you find it in any Sydney stores?

      • None have the stock that I went to.

  • I picked this up this afternoon and I'm very impressed. Its great for the price.
The resolution is extremely crisp and the VA panel gives much darker blacks than my old IPS display.
Brightness is about right for an office display.
