This previously popular M.2 2230 sized SSD is back on sale and an excellent choice for those looking to upgrade the storage in their Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, Surface Pro 9, X, Surface Laptop 3, 4, Go, Surface Book 3 and more.

Since this is a Gen4 SSD you shouldn't use it with the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Pro 7+ due to stability issues. Both of these have no issues with Gen3 SSDs.

This one offers a sequential read up to 5150 MB/s, sequential write up to 4850 MB/s and uses Toshiba BiCS5 112l TLC flash. Unfortunately 2230 sized SSDs don't have DRAM cache, but this one does use pSLC cache and HMB to make up for it so it's perfectly fine for gaming. Especially when a lot of other similar SSDs are QLC.

Alternatively you can use these in an M.2 2230 SSD enclosure for portable storage or even this one for iPhone that I've just discovered.

Anyone bought this from aliexpress and also are they good with warranty issues?

    • +1

Warranty is poor with sellers from Aliexpress generally speaking.

If I were buying it (I'm still considering for my ROG Ally), I'd essentially assume no warranty and if it broke/had problems in the future, I'd need to buy a new one.

Bought it last time, no regrets. Obv won’t know anything about warranty until I do. It’s the exact same unit found in rog ally except higher capacity.

      • Yeah, I think we'll be fine. I noticed that too when I checked specs in Windows.

        Cheers, will buy.

      • does aliexpress have 60 days returns like ebay?

also does the 180 days paypal buyer protection work on aliexpress (if paid with paypal)
or would it be better to get it on ebay?

  • Looking for feedback. If you have FTTP and say 1000/50 (max speed available in your area), how long does an average game take to download? I take it would be faster if the device is docked on the wire. I guess im curious if having more storage is even needed or just redownload games when you want to play them if you have fttp. Im on fttn right now so i max out at 100 but its still doesnt make me want to delete games and redownload them. It just takes too long.
