I really regret buying one of these. The GPS is really poor, especially altitude tracking. When running on a perfectly flat athletics track, it gives me an altitude change of 14m, each lap…

Average speed is really inconsistent and inaccurate, especially when not walking perfectly straight.

It does other weird things too, like considering a slow walk (registered as a 'walk' activity) as training load, so it's always telling me to train less and then consequently gives me useless running training exercises.

YMMV but letting you know my longterm review.

    • Are you letting the GPS fully sync in? As in when you select the run activity, waiting until the bar is completely green and you get the GPS tick?

Bold statement to make considering Garmin is known for having the most accurate GPS system on the market… Seriously, it's either just a faulty device, or perhaps you should switch to 3D GPS and see if that helps? Anyway, don't let this deter anyone else from wanting to purchase one.

I've had mine fore a few months now and can't rave about it more. GPS is way more accurate than my phone or previous watch. Even just running around at footy training it tracks my exact movements and metrics. Yeah the suggestions and recovery times can be a tad off, but just ignore them.

      Best bits:
      - Battery life is insanely good
      - Spotify music and bluetooth works really well
      - No need for a phone while out running (tap and pay available)
      - GPS accurate to within meters, even when running where my previous phone / watch would go haywire, it follows my route perfectly
      - Automatically syncing to my phone and uploading to strava after a run…. If it's not on strava, it doesn't count #forthekudos
      - Easy to use buttons, no fear of accidentally tapping something on the screen (as it's not a touch screen). ALSO the screen works really well in the bright sun because of this. Newer model is much harder to see
      - Best purchase I've made in the past 6 months

      • Heyo! Thanks for the mini-review. I'm pretty keen to grab one of these as my TicWatchPro 2020 is on the way out (PSA: Never buy Mobvoi!).

Does the Forerunner 55 support Spotify on the device directly (so I can just pair my Bluetooth buds to the watch and hit play and run), or do you need to have your phone within Bluetooth range and pair buds to that and the watch can just skip tracks?

My n=2 (mrs w + me) is the opposite. She runs, I ride and for both those activities the altitude is generally very accurate. When I mow the lawn, I treat that as a walk activity and after doing it on a steamy Qld day, it seems to understate the training load (probably more I need to harden up a bit :) ).

Yes, I let the gps get a good fix before starting, then run for 30mins plus and same problem.
Not sure why I'm being neg'd, this is my true experience with this watch…

    • How far out are we talking with GPS accuracy? As in if you ran 5kms on the track what are you getting on the watch?
FYI re track running I'm pretty sure there's a track running activity where you choose what lane you are in for improved accuracy. I've been using Garmin GPS for years now and although it doesn't have pinpoint accuracy, it is well and truly accurate enough for me.
If you do a few laps on a track does the satellite image show all the loops withing the track itself or are you seeing spikes going 100s of metres off track.
Re elevation if you use Strava you can change the elevation for an activity to be based on their maps instead of the watches sensors. I just checked a 5km track run I did in Albury 2 years ago and my watch came in at 42 meters and so did Strava when I changed it. If I go for a road or trail run there is usually a variance but it's nothing I really bother with.
