Other libraries that has Haynes manuals:

As @rickb, @Widget @sud has pointed out, quite a few libraries that has Haynes access plan as well.
NSW:
Hawkesbury, Lithgow, Sutherland, Liverpool, Queanbeyan, Kempsey - Port Macquarie.
VIC:
Frankston

Only see Lawn mower manual ?

This means you are on their main library site, you need to use the link in the deal which goes to a Haynes plan portal.

Would it have my car model ?

It seems they only give slightly older cars, so if your car is made in the last 5 ish year, they might not have it.

Sign up for Liverpool Library,

https://liverpool.spydus.com/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/MSGTRN/WPAC/…
no need to live in liverpool, they give you an temporary ID immediately so you can login and get the manual.

I bought a ford focus shitbox recently for $1.5k and was wanting to do some maintenance / repairs myself. YouTube is great but there are quite a few variants of the car, also there are US and UK versions which are slightly different to mine, having a manual for the exact car is a lot easier than sieving through 10 vids for your exact model.

The catalog looks to be somewhat extensive.

Thank you Liverpool city library and people who are paying the rates.
Saved me $60 on buying the manual.

  • Nice find, OP.

  • Lexus ES and RX only. Looks like all models.

But a great deal +1 thank you op

    Edit: not all models

    • Any idea how to get one for an 07' IS250? I had never even thought about getting a repair manual until this post but it could prove quite useful.

      • +1

        Forums, torrents etc.

  • Thanks op .real handy .

Perfect! I have a VW beetle so I'm entitled to anything from Liverpool: she loves me yeah yeah yeah.

    • The only Liverpool I know is the British one.

  • Omgz!

    • zomg

Not exclusive to Liverpool. Check your local library.

    e.g. https://library.frankston.vic.gov.au/eLibrary/Education-and-…

    • +4

Search on trove, use advanced search for online books.
This link will get you in the right neck of the woods…
      https://trove.nla.gov.au/work/36380370?subject=Focus%20autom…

      • Didn't know you can search across libraries, this would be handy in the future for sure.
Although the one I need is the book with a sliver car in the cover, because my car is sliver, I wouldn't be able to follow the book because the colour is differnt.

Just joking, but the one with a silver car on the cover is different, the sliver one is for petrol version of the car.

    • That's awesome, good to see Library in other state carrying this as well. Unfortunately my local (Blacktown) city library don't have it. :(.
Liverpool is the closest one to me that have this, only 30 mins away, I could drive there, just need to get the manual to fix the car first…haha

    • +3

From a very quick search here's a list of libraries that have access in NSW: Hawkesbury, Lithgow, Sutherland, Liverpool, Queanbeyan, Kempsey - Port Macquarie (NSW).

There will definitely be a handful in other states (Logan QLD is one)

      Fellow Frankston reporting :D

      • Nah dont beleev use.
        Yous speel to gud. 😉

    • they said: This section is not available on the demo version of the manual.
      this is demo 🤔

      • serves you right for buying a demo

      • You have to go to the menu and login using your library name, card number, and password/pin.

        • OK, thank you, I didn't know.

  • Pretty sure this is common at (most) Libraries. My local library has a subscription too. Currently using it to repair my Nissan. Was about to buy a physical manual one day when I read about Libraries having manuals (in USA I think). Went to my local Library to see if they had any and they said they have Haynes free access with library card. Pretty happy about that.

"Boeing 747 : 1970 onwards (all marks) : owners' workshop manual" perfect, now I just need some undercover off-street parking

    • lol I don't think they included that one in the plan, I had to pay for it out of the pocket for this one.

    • while you're at it; can you find whether they have "B-2 stealth bomber" manual?
Been tinkering with its remote wireless, as I can't remember where I park it last time…

  • +17

The login screen doesn't seem to check for legitimate details. For example, use C030123D with password 1234

    • Hah! Yep, random login for me. Whereas several libraries near me weren't eligible

      • +1

Oh no, now I can see a long list of preventative servicing I should do

    • Didnt work for me. "Invalid Login".

So signed up legit…and they dont have Mitsi Outlander manuals ..facepalm!

    • thanks for the number, saves me from signing up

    • +14

If only people on YouTube knew what a manual was.
So much misinformation, if you are a novice player that is.

Of course a lot of good stuff too, but, far too much rubbish.

      • +12

Not just that, but the YouTube algorithm is just crap. Truly crap.
I search for common semi technical queries for a popular performance car
        First result is an ad
Then a video that matches a key word but is nothing like what I need
3rd return is a video I've already watched and isn't related
4th video is a thirst trap short bait
5th video onwards is totally unrelated "recommendation" videos

YouTube/Google is so intent on whitelisting advertiser friendly sanitised results, and promoting politically biased whitelisted items, that they have eschewed their index almost totally

Regarding the Haynes manuals - is this the same as library of nsw? I found that only older, crappy cars were listed. Didn't even have a manual for the dr650

        • +2

Agree, it's terrible, while also a great source of information, no doubt.

I use the factory service manuals where possible, which are hard to obtain usually too, but use the Haynes on occassion and YouTube to supplement the information.

Sometime it's helpful for dealing with the likes of unplugging weird plugs and looking at a disassembled gearbox. Or for fitment of certain parts when not immediately obvious 👍

        • Which popular performance car are you working on?

          • @Surfer Dude: Evo! So there's no shortage of content out there

            • +1

@gfjh567gh3: 90% of those vids are influencers doing stupid shite to their cars. Thank god for MCM

              • @funkymonkey: My pet peeve is no one shows how and what with they grease anything
So I just have to smear moly grease on everything and hope that's what the engineers wanted!

    • Youtube is great to get you "close enough" but you will have a bad time following it exactly like a Manual.
Example, Im doing a Floating Wilwood brake install which i figured i would read the manual but then i noticed some little oddities some steps were different per pages.. Anyway i go to youtube and between everybody they were installing it differently…

Which i even went to Wilwood to clarify and they even said the manual needs an update.

    • Manuals> automatics> twin clutch with Tiptronic override + stop-start> EV infinitely variable

  • +1

Hmm pretty old stuff for some cars and the instruction quality is sometimes pretty high level with only few photos.

  • +3

Even though this is free, but considering the money you will save and the knowledge you will gain, it's better to source for a factory workshop manual.

Some of them have step by step instructions on interval services as well.

Only downside is sometimes the manual may refer to specialised (and expensive) factory tools that you only need to use it once, without suggesting alternatives.

  • Thanks!
Will be handy for some of the old cars!

  • Was hoping to find an old vh valiant charger but no luck 😢

  • Thanks Op!

ford focus shitbox recently for 1.5k

    local (Blacktown)

I've been told that impossible - congrats on the shitbox though!

    • +1

I’ve bought a registered car (2001 Mitsubishi Mirage) in Sydney for $350 (pre-Covid) for a quick run around trip as it was cheaper than renting one. Albeit it was pretty bad I sold it for scrap for $350 the next weekend.

Also coincidentally thought I had commented this looking at your username.

    • +4

Thanks, I was on Facebook marketplace for like 3 months though, lots of being ghosted, seller sells the car before you arrive, doggy seller etc, you have to act fast and be patient.

      here are some specs/info:
      + 2007 Ford Focus with 159 k km
      + $ 1450 (I haggled for $50 off, very prod of myself)
      - Picked up in Ku-ring-gai
      - has 1 month expired rego so I have to get pink slip + renew, ($1.2 k for 1 year of rego)
      - No owner manual no service booklet.
+ passed pink slip with no repair.
+ manual transmission (I bought it to learn manual so it's a +, strangely, I feel good manual deal is slightly harder to find than auto)
+++ 2L petrol engine, apparently Ford duratec 2L is a Mazda designed engine, and they use the same engine on some Miata / Mx5, so it's got a strong, reliable Japanese 4 banger with a timing chain. I found out because I was looking up tear down vid to confirm if it has a timing belt.
      - have some scratches and ding all around but no big dent (might be repairable not in my list of priorities at the moment)
      - noisy power steering pump (it still have all the fluid so it's probably fine, seller said it's been like that for a while so eh)
      - clutch might be a little worn but still works no slip. (there were so much steep hill in ku ring gai it was nerve racking driving it back)
      - Engine oil is a little dark was changed 1.5 years ago but hasn't reach the km yet. (I did an oil change right away after getting it back home)
      - Car was parked for 4 months cause seller has a different car.
      - Has a moldy or plasticky smell (it's a lot better now after I bought a ozone machine and ran it for 10min and changed the cabin filter)
      - AC fan and compressor works but no cold air. (works now after recharged refrigerant for $150, only work I've done for it so far at the mechanic, they also put in dye to check leak, apparently the compressor leaks and it'll cost 1.2k to replace condenser and compressor, it's still working now after about 2 weeks, I'll just keep the windows open if it stops working. Not gonna fix it)

I have driven maybe about 400 km on it, I don't see major problem with it really, I called it shitbox mainly because how cheap I got it for. It's still early days though.

      Long message, thanks for reading.

TLDR: I got lucky, it's doable with 1.5k (expired rego) but I wouldn't do it if I just need a car with 0 complication and don't have a little time to spare.

Searching for Haynes shows 1 book that is about lawnmower engines repair?

    • Even if not the exact model, sometimes it can be a great starting point to give you the general idea.

      • +1

I was mistakenly searching for Haynes on the library website not realising the link for the actual Haynes website in the deal where all the car manuals are

  • +1

Mad find OP. I was seriously looking for a particular one all over the net today. It seems all I had to do was drive down the road.

  • +3

    Very nice find!
Is there a way to download the manual locally?

  • Thanks Op, shame both my cars don’t appear CX5 and Tucson

  • +1

    Same
    No Superb or 508GT

    • I was looking for the Superb too

  • I’ve never been a fan of most of the Haynes manuals I’ve used, although one of the hilux manuals I have is pretty good, but I’ve mainly only used them for 80s and 90s cars.
I prefer FSMs which are pretty easy to find online these days.

    • The Spitfire one I have is pretty entertaining

    • The English engineer's take on the way others do things is always interesting. Sometimes wise and funny, other times ham-fisted, misguided or plain ignorant of modern technology, manufacturing processes, tooling, materials, and even mechanical design! In the Haynes library we get all, but its pretty good, and most helpful when others like Bently have missed a model you're working on

  • No ~2017 Toyota Aurion either unfortunately

    • I have one of those too OwMe … PM me if you find a .pdf of the manual somewhere?

  • I couldn't find Bugatti Veyron

    • Just download two Audi manuals.

  • There is no Haynes repair manual except for lawn mower.

    • Cylinder or rotary?

    • +1

Hi sir/miss you might be on the main website instead of the Haynes access portal.
Try using the link in the deal and that image then click the image that says "try it now"

      • Clicked the sign up here link and took it from there.

  • +1

    Is it downloadable?

  • +1

You’re welcome, OP. I’m one of those people who are paying the rates 🤣😂

“Thank you Liverpool city library and people who are paying the rates.”

    • +1

Hats off to you miss/sir, hey if you are ever in Blacktown I give you permission to use …… (I don't think there are much things we have that you guys don't already have.). There is new animal shelter that they have built, you could adopt a dog/cat if you like?
You know what we have Ikea that's pretty cool right ?

  • Haynes can be very hit and miss with their Manuals.

  • dang it, porshe is only available up to 1985 :(
    i need a 2022 porsche

    • Don't we all? I'll take a 911 (SUVs are garbage).

      • I'll settle for a Cayman

  • can someone check for motorcycle manuals?

    • What are you looking for?

      • Honda vfr 800,

        • +1

          They have 1997-2001

  • Thanks OP

  • How do you download a manual as a PDF?

  • Damn. They have <2013 of the car I want, but not after - even though Haynes have the book in print (2015 on).

  • Got an email this morning that my library card is expiring in a month and that I need to contact them via phone or in person to renew - also my username/password can no longer access haynes website

    • +1

Oh no, I hope mine don't expire soon.
If you still just need access for this only maybe try using the account MiCCAS provided?

      • Just got an email saying to ignore the expiry email and that my "card" is valid until 2029 and this was a mistake
