      Just gonna grab my popcorn

I thought you are going to say that you would prefer to go to a cinema…

      • +13

with these, the cinema comes to you :P

        • +31

iSheeps cant even goto cinemas as they spent all the organ donated money on the phone.

          • +5

@[Deactivated]: hey its got fall protection which is awesome because i havent been able to afford a doctor since the iPhone 12 XSR Pro Max Super came out

        • speaking as an Apple user, I'm ready with my popcorn too.

        • Hello, I am a Google Pixel phone user and I go to the cinemas. I don't understand your problem with me?

      • Red team vs Green (iPay) team ;)

    • +13

If I had top tax bracket money I'd buy one. Life is short, so you should buy as many toys as possible.

      • -4

Plus it's a deductible WFH expense. I'd definitely use this for WFH if I had the spare cash.

        • +24

          W = working?

          • +2

            @foursaken: Working from home

        • +14

That's not really how that works, like at all. you can't just "deduct stuff".

          • -2

@coffeeinmyveins: You could (at least in the old days? Maybe still?) deduct on something under 300 (i.e.: not pay tax on that amount, not get back the whole 300) without having evidence you really needed it for work.

Dishonest, but no one was going to bother chasing you for it.

            6.4k? Not so much…

            • +4

@ItsMeAgro: not really? you didnt need 'written evidence' for a couple of categories of deductions up to a small amount ($300 sounds about right) but that didnt mean you could just deduct and bob's your uncle. If you got audited, you would still be required to justify the deduction

              • +3

@perfectlydark: Correct, and if you had more than $300 in total deductions, everything needs to be substantiated

          • +4

            @coffeeinmyveins:

            you can't just "deduct stuff".

            It's a write-off for them.

            • +6

@blitz: They just write it off!

              • +5

                @boirganz: @boirganz You don't even know what a write-off is.

                • +3

@blitz: But they do… and they’re the ones writing it off.

      • With AI, even the jobs will be shortlived.

      • +1

You can change countless lives with this wasted money. Life shouldn't just be about our own greed.

        • +1

If I made more than 180k a year I would donate a lot of it I think, fortunately the money over the highest tax bracket has the greatest incentive to donate to lower your taxable income too. I'd probably donate to causes related to poverty and disadvantage for children. Growing up poor I know we could have used some help.

But I'd also buy all the toys I want.

          • +13

@AustriaBargain: $180k in Sydney these days is unfortunately nothing to rave about …

          • +9

@AustriaBargain: 180k? That pretty much nothing if you believe the nationals leader.

            https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/1ado5wr/david_littleproud_accuses_labor_of_class_warfare/

David Littleproud accuses Labor of ‘class warfare’ over stage-three tax changes, saying $190,000 is ‘not a lot’

          • @AustriaBargain: You kinda adjust your levels of toys to your income. Oops.

      • +1

Why just one? Why not 2, just in case the battery runs out on the first?

        • +2

buying this would basically empty my bank account so don't ask me why I know this but.

the Vision pro's use an external battery pack. there is no battery inside the headset so all you need to do is buy an extra battery pack which you can unplug, swap out and continue to use it.

anyway I know you are kidding but yeah it's different to a quest which you have to recharge if it goes flat, or just keep a powerbank plugged in to it to keep the battery inside at 100%.

      • +1

Nope. Stage 3 2.0 only gets you $3729 now… not $6k as planned in Stage 3 original. On $180k.

        • But if I donate everything above 150k then that wouldn't apply to me anyway.

      • +12

The money goes to the country that finances bombs & WMD (the last word has been marketed as Democracy;), not toys.

        • Don't forget your beloved Samsung is also a weapons manufacturer supplying allies of "the country."

        • Better than going to a Dictatorship and Orwelian surveillance state that supports terrorists countries like North Korea, Iran and Russia while spreading Fentanyl crisis half way around the world.

          • @dealhunter52: No, id much rather be under surveillance now by the free market of web advertising, where all of my privacy data and web tracking is freely sold to the highest bidder opposed to one government agency tracking it all. (sarcasm)

Except of course that our own agencies have been tracking everyones internet for almost a decade now and been allowed to listen in on phones without a warrent for 20+ years:
            https://www.itnews.com.au/news/parliament-passes-law-to-let-…

Or Australia supporting terrorist and genocidal maniacs like the Myanmar army:
            https://www.amnesty.org.au/australian-government-must-immedi…
            Or more recently currently Israel.

Dont get me wrong I hate the CCP as much as the next guy, but in the age of the internet, any data you send overseas is intercepted by what ever country its passing though. Its a global Orwelian surveillance state regardless of where you live or your nationality. And every government is funding some rebel group for their own personal gains.
I wish it was different, but thats the world we live in.

            • @trigomorph:

Except of course that our own agencies have been tracking everyones internet for almost a decade now and been allowed to listen in on phones without a warrant for 20+ years:

There is a difference between surveillance for public safety and to stop terror activity and the surveillance to suppress dissent and enforce censorship. I will much rather have the former.

And every government is funding some rebel group for their own personal gains.

Terrorists and rogue regimes are not rebel groups. Also, spreading Fentanyl crisis half way around the world is sheer evil n my opinion.

        • And Samsung quite literally has a weapons department. What about Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.

        • And which country doesn't finance bombs? Lol

      • Could've with the extra tax bracket money - now they'll have to pull themselves up by the bootstraps to make do.

    • Do you make your own from scratch or use the packaged ones from woolies?

    • Your comment blew up

    Thanks OP bought 0.

      Bought -1, saved money

      • +14

        You made money

        • +2

          Ozbargain math.

        • +3

A dollar saved is a dollar made

      • this comment is going to be a bit meta and kind of depressing but..

        crushed dream -1, saved money.

that's how it is for many gen z'ers and myself. no outdoor socialising, no partner, no children, no nice new car, no house. saved money (so I can buy $100 things and an oculus quest lol).

        • So, centrelink for life?

      • That's profit.

    • /Get 2. I’m not sharing with Caitlin.

    • +19

But when they do they will be 'Apple' Netflix, YouTube and Spotify apps and they will be revolutionary.

      • +3

No You forget their special i =>iTflix, iTube and iTify :D

      • +1

And after 10 years, they’ll keep you on stale firmware and you won’t be able to update these apps.

    • Apple engineers are working hard at it… Oh wait!

      • +1

Apple engineers would be working on Apple products. Netflix have said that the device is too niche for a dedicated app.

Besides, you can just use a web browser.

        • +11

you can just use a web browser

Nice, six grand to watch netflix with a headset on at worse res/bitrate than my phone

          • +4

@ItsMeAgro: 4K monitors are much cheaper than iPay gadgets

          • +2

            @ItsMeAgro: Hopefully, you're buying a $6000 device for more than binge-watching Netflix.

            • +1

              @ihfree: OzB-Men round-up, ie. $6.5k :(

        • Netflix have said that the device is too niche

They’ve disallowed their ipad app from the Vision platform which used to work fine

    • yeah but it's not that kind of consumer product I think.

it's basically a "ooh aah" product. I even heard somewhere apple will be putting a cap on how many they make.
those few that own one will consider "not having something" a "innovation and a "feature".

  • +29

What the actual …. is this deal?
Preorder for more than retail. Wow

    • +2

supposedly initial batch was sold out in the US. not sure how or why, but somehow.

      • +9

        Initial batch of 10 lol

      • +8

        not sure how or why

        See: Artificial scarcity

    • +3

Well it's not being released in AU for a while, so scalpers gonna scalp

    • +4

How can it be more than retail if there is no Australian retail price?

    • it's like the dyson zone deal. nobody actually wants one. it's a meme.

I was going to post something similar with the "$10 off $1000 spend on specific items @ Amazon AU" but most users probably wouldn't get it and I would receive a beating to death with sticks lol.

  • +27

Apple sheep get your wallets ready.

    • +8

Apple human here. And iTunes gift cards ready.

      • +2

is this what "david" from the ATO needed those cards for when he asked?

  • +7

    here for the comments.

  • +68

Basically paying 6k to be a beta tester for Apple.

    • +41

Not unlike Tesla customers paying thousands more to beta test FSD and enjoy endless promises of subsequent levels 'coming next year'

      • -6

The latest FSD beta 12 released 2 days ago is pretty incredible. Neural nets only. No hard coded rules
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFTs2OqtN0s

        • +12

12th beta!?! Glad to see it might finally be starting to get there, but that's ridiculous for something that was promised so long ago.

          • -7

@noisymime: Out of curiosity, what did you accomplish in the mean time?

            • +15

@yadq: Since FSD was announced in 2015? Well I've grown my aftermarket ECU business significantly and shipped my 3000th unit (Only started selling them in 2014). Have made 3 new major models in that time and written around 20k lines of new code for it.

Not nearly as big as Tesla of course, but I'm happy.

            • @yadq: Not scamming idiots for millions?

      • -1

At least you get somewhere, here you just pay$$ to stay in the Apple walled garden :(
The value will diminish as the new versions & other competition come from all sides.
Apple is very behind with AI. Even Samsung has immediate solution for millions S24, S23 & Fold5 phones.

        • Tell us more about Samsung in the AR/VR space.

Samsung gear, Samsung Odyssey with mixed reality - anything in the "visionary" category?

      • -1

no one's forcing you to purchase FSD

    • Had to scroll way too far before I found the first negative comment that wasn't just about being here for the comments

    • Except that is works better than any such headset around who by the way have multiple hardware iterations under their belt.

    • +2

You typically pay more for a less polished experience when there is a new class of product.

  • +17

Think of this as a dev kit- not a consumer product. Not their target. Get the rich people to pay for R&D - write it off as a business expense. Once they actually create substance for it and write apps they can focus on a consumer version.

    • +12

Hey don't forget we've also got the Google Cardboard viewer. Matches our fedoras well.

    • +14

Android and Fedora may both be based on Linux but they're not the same. I understand the confusion though.

      • +3

        I think you mean GNU/Linux…

        Sorry, I couldn't help myself ;-)
