Carson 2.9kW Portable Air Con with Dehumidifier & Fan $439 ($429 New Customer) Del'd @ Mills Brands Woolworths Everyday Market

EMNEW10

All Carson portable air conditioners are sold out on Kogan, and it is also sold out in Dick Smith and MyDeal this is perhaps the only one you can get without paying the full price, of $649 from eBay.

More Power, More Pricey than the preivous deal

It is not "better" than the last deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/825700 which is a 2.05kw unit (7000BTU).

At 2.9kW (10,000 BTU), this unit packs 42% more cooling power than the previously mentioned 2.05kW (7,000 BTU) deal. However, it also comes with an 83% steeper price tag. That translates to $339 for a 10,000 BTU unit with a similar BTU-to-dollar ratio as the last deal, if you don't need the heating function this unit brings to the table.

If you are using it in a room, single flexible exhaust hose system like this won't be very effective. However, the PA300 is a popular choice for outdoor events, such as concerts, festivals, and sporting events. It is also a good option for indoor events, such as conferences, meetings, and presentations when ad-hoc A/C is needed.

Power Consumption

1950 watts (W). Note that most powerboards have a fuse of 10A, meaning 2 of such units blows up the fuse (or one such unit plus a kettle).

  • Is this evaporative?

    • No. It is a proper coolant driven system to my knowledge.

      • Where does the hot air go I wonder?

        • Hot air goes out from the single flexible exhaust hose. You get more bang for the electricity bill if you self insulate the hose with tapes etc.

          • @enveloped: That's smart

@Pixie13: But where does the air come In to the room from?

Uh oh it's from the rest of the hot ass house!

              • -2

@Nalar: I dont think you know how stupid this comment is… Please learn how an air con unit works.

                • -1

@ATangk: That is not as helpful as directing @Nalar to ask GPT. He clearly wants to lean, albeit we don't have the GPT level patience.

                • @ATangk: @Nalar is absolutely right - for every litre of air that this unit exhausts from the room, another litre of hot air comes straight in to the room to replace it.
For this reason, the only type of portable aircon units that actually work, are the ones with two hoses. They need to bring in hot air from outside, cool it, put it into the room, and exhaust the same amount of air from the room via the other hose.

Single hose units will blow cold air onto you, but they'll warm the rest of the room while they do it.

                • @ATangk: Guess I was wrong ¯_(ツ)_/¯

              • @Nalar:

Uh oh it's from the rest of the hot ass house!

Yeah, my air conditioner which has an inlet pipe which pops out in the Yukon in Canada is a much better design.

                • @MorriJ: It simply needs an inlet pipe that you can hang outside of your house. See post above.

Hard pass. 2.9 Watts would cost too much to run.

    • +3

The power consumption of the unit during operation is 1950 watts (W). The 2.9 kilowatt (kW) of A/C rating refers to the cooling capacity of the air conditioner, which is a measure of its ability to remove heat from the room, and not the electrical energy consumption.

  • $649 is a rort eBay price. they were originally $470 but always sold with discount codes

    • I spent many minutes trying to buy at 4xx price before posting, the problem is almost every shop sells them at 4xx but none display having stock.

  • the PA300 is a popular choice for outdoor events, such as concerts, festivals, and sporting events

Outdoors ?? wot ? like, try and cool the entire planets atmosphere ?

    • It is true that this is the use case. I'm sorry I was just being honest, down voting expected. Guests want to dance in the open on roof top bars with AC blowing to them and would be less willing to dole stars in their reviews if there is no such A/C unit, an observed reality. Same as restaurants could have used reverse cycle A/C to warm up but guests leave less stars than competitors if it wasn't heated by Propane torch.

  • It's dehumidifier but will not collect the water. Where will the water go?

    • +1

The condensate drips onto the hot side of the condenser, where it will evaporate into the exhaust air
