This NAS is back on sale again for the next hour and a better version of the F4-223 I posted the other day. The main difference is that this offers the better Intel N5095 quad-core CPU. I personally own this one with the RAM bumped up to 16GB and it's flawless.

As mentioned in the previous deal the weak part on TerraMaster NAS drives is the OS (TOS), however 5.1 has added heaps of improvements and TOS6 is around the corner. Alternatively you can install another OS like TrueNAS, Unraid, Windows or even Synology DSM on these.

Featuring 4 SATA bays with support up to 20TB each, 2x M.2 2280 NVMe slots for storage/cache, 2x 2.5GbE LAN, Intel Celeron N5095 quad-core CPU, 4GB DDR4 SODIMM RAM (upgradeable to 32GB), 2x USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps ports and HDMI.

A good option for those wanting to have network storage, RAID redunancy, Plex transcoding, Docker, video surveillance, syncing to OneDrive/Google Drive/Dropbox and more

Plus if you post a review and share with TerraMaster they'll send you a free stick of 4GB DDR4 RAM. I recommend getting cheap drives from this popular Eastdigital deal

    Sold out already!

Great info though OP - very happy that I could throw synology dsm on here and just throw my old drives straight in

    • That was quick! It would seem the F4-223 is back on sale for $486.99 now. I'm super tempted to grab this one.

      • Sorry, first-timer trying to build my first NAS and don't understand 90% of the lingo/specs. Would you say this F4-223 is overkill if all I want is to back up files (photos/videos/documents) and access via mobile/laptop remotely in and out of the house? Will probably use two 12TB (1 for back-up), and not sure what I'd do with the extra 2 bays.

  • Did not know Synology on 3rd party hardware was possible.

Is this using Xpenology? This Reddit thread isn't very inspiring - https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/10b089m/can_i_buy…

    • Possible, but not recommended.

    • Naturally people on /r/synology are going to be gatekeeping. Yeah it's using Xpenology. These NAS drives have an internal USB port with a small flash drive that you can replace to install DSM or any other OS.

      • Have you tried it? Someone from work was telling me about the issues with synology updates etc they had and it didn't really seem worth it.

        • I used it years ago but not currently as I have Synology as well. Since it's a community project it's a lot better now than it was previously.

  • Hmm, I was pretty set on the QNAP TS-462 or TS-464, but hardware wise, Terramaster is even better value. Shame I missed the F4-423, the F4-223 could tempt me.

It's the software side that's lacking, even though neither hold a candle to Synology, QNAP QTS seems to be much further along in development. Could TrueNAS or UnRaid be a fairly good, hassle free replacement?

  • Just fyi guys this is back on sale for 1 dollar more that listed here, I was going to post it but it would be basically a duplicate. Feel free to remove the expired label and update the listing to $559.99

    • It would only be a duplicate if it was posted before Feb 27.
