Cheap price on this PCIe network card with 2.5Gbps and 1Gbps support if you're after some faster local transfer speeds on your network. I personally have a few NAS drives with 2.5G alongside a Keeplink switch and router so I'm able to transfer files across the network significantly faster.

This one is using the Realtek RTL8125B chipset and includes both the normal and low profile brackets.

Great experience with AliExpress seek/continue using AliExpress

    • +6

About 40 orders deep this month and no issues whatsoever. It's a marketplace, so go for high feedback stores.

      • +1

AliExpress is fine, however, I regard their feedback scores and reviews as junk - even bad feedback on items is 5 star.

That said, Amazon and eBay are only slightly better for fake reviews and removal of negative feedback.

My keeplink order got delivered to a different house which i disputed and got refunded.

Good thing i saw the delivery man and went and picked it up afterwards

      you're doing it wrong

    • Maybe you should stop using all online platform since you had a bad experience with one

    • +12

Awful experience with this comment would avoid this comment

    • +2

      Mate, you're doing it wrong.
I have over 1000 AliExpress orders and only lost money on 1 of them (even that is my fault - I forgot that I ordered the item and forgot to dispute it). Every other time, worst case had been I'd not received the item and got the money back or gotten a broken/poor-quality item and still gotten the money back (or a fair partial refund that I agree on).

On the other hand, I have about 200 ebay orders and I've had some really bad experience with some sellers and sometimes even Ebay buyer protection doesn't help.

Doesn't mean I don't buy an item on any of the online platform. I just have realistic expectations.

Do 2.5Gbps nics generate a lot of more heat?

    • +2

Not a lot. The 10Gbps cards are another story though.

Been using the Fenvi i226 model you linked to in previous de with the keeplink switch, been working great

  • need another deal on a 2.5gbit switch :(

    • +1

I'm looking out for this Ampcom to drop further since it's a managed switch.

      • dont really want one thats managed, and not unifi :/ unmanaged is fine

  • Didn't buy this one, but another Realtek 2.5G PCI Nic

Had issues with Linux drivers. Haven't spent to much time fixing it, but it's not plug and play as Intel ones. Far more expensive though.

    • +2

Github is full of driver fixes for everything Realtek and Linux. I believe this one will solve the issue.

      • What would you recommend for an OPNsense build? I don't want to mess around with installing drivers …

        • Use Intel NICs instead. Specifically the I226 ones instead of I225.

          • @Clear: My apologies - Let me elaborate briefly. This is for a very small home setup. Intel NICs seem quite expensive, and I know for a fact I've seen cheapie NICs work just fine out of box - But other than knowing it was supposedly a TP-Link product, I don't know much more. Surely there are budget alternatives that don't require mucking about with drivers? Given OPNsense is a network related OS, surely it would have a wide suite of drivers ready to go, plug and play?

Edit: This one, for example https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-Gigabit-Ethernet-PCI-Expre…

            • @Grazz989: Brands like TP-Link are either going to be using Intel, Realtek or MediaTek NICs. I'm not a Linux user so I really can't say how easy or hard Realtek will be other than what I've seen online. It's possible to get Intel NICs like this on AliExpress and the one linked has been cheaper before.

              • @Clear: How do you know that NIC is intel?

I know it says so in the text pasted over the photo, but reading the chip itself doesn't seem to have any references to Intel or that model (226)?

                • @Grazz989: Easy dispute to win if it's wrong. Dunno why they'd lie. Reviews show it as Intel too

                  • @Clear: I guess I was more asking in terms of 'if it's not stated, but a picture is given, how can you determine what brand of chip it has'?

                • +1

                  @Grazz989:

How do you know that NIC is intel?

Because the card is called i226.
                  That's an Intel 2.5Gb chip.

And the third picture specifically says "Using Intel i226 Chipset".

'if it's not stated, how can you determine what brand of chip it has'?

You can't. If you need a specific chip, then buy a card like the exact one we are discussing - where it is stated.

does this one have a virus?

    • +3

I reckon if you put the box under a microscope you would see some.

  • +2

Any 10g cards at a good price?

    • +2

I've found it cheaper to use DAC cables with SFP+ if cable routing and cable lengths aren't an issue.

    • +1

$120 on Amazon for dual port Intel card.

      • After doing some research I discovered those x540 chip cards can't negotiate outside of 1G or 10G (no 2.5 or 5G) so unfortunately they don't fit my use case.

        • x550 cards do though but are far more expensive.

        • This applies to the majority of 10Gb gear. Only recent chipsets can understand 2.5Gb and 5Gb.

  • Got sent back by customs?? Awaiting more information…

    Maybe considered counterfeit?

    • Does it actually say that or "failed clearance".

      • "Customs clearance unsuccessful" is the wording

I'm waiting for more specific information

        • Oh yeah that's completely normal and it will be delivered.

          • @Clear: Oh is it? Never had that before

            • @Dyl: Become a very recent issue for a lot of people here and around the world. Always seems to make it through.

              • @Clear: Will wait and see then, interesting.

Maybe relates to the vape ban or something, checking more packages

Edit: my Amazon order is also "delayed at customs" sigh

          • @Clear: Order 2 through, order 1 still at customs lol
