  • Same heat output as a $15 kmart fan heater. What makes this "outdoor"? Just the look? Lol

    • That fan heater isn't going to do much good for you outside.

      • And this will do better? Doubt so with the same kW rating.

        • +1

It tramits heat by thermal radiation, not by blowing hot air or heating the air as an indoor heater does. As appliances go much beyond 2000w they may need specific wiring as they could overload standard 10A sockets, extension cords and powerboards.

Aren't running these things like throwing paper money into a fire to keep warm? I mean, if you use an oil heater indoors the heat stays in the room rather than wafting off into the cold night sky.

Gotta be wary of oil heaters though, if they're not up to snuff, they're at risk of leaking carbon monoxide.

One of the benefits of having a paper money fire inside.

    • Outdoor electric heaters like this transmit heat via thermal radiation, which is similar to how a campfire warms you up. Oil heaters and ceramic fan heaters are next to useless outdoors as they rely on air convection.

      • <whoosh>

… not unlike the flying ashes of the money that you're burning to run this thing.

        • Oil heaters have similar power ratings to outdoor radiant heaters, and are usually run for longer periods. And just to repeat, radiant heaters aren't there to heat the air; they heat objects in the path of their radiation.
