Seems like a pretty good deal considering everywhere else has it for $90+. I think shipping is like $40+ so not much of a bargain without Amazon Prime.

Are the game mechanics / ideas similar to Catan?
I would say they are quite different based on a how to play video I watched
Not at all really. The only thing they have in common is that there are dice in the box.
It's hard to recommend alternatives to Catan… as much as I'm not particularly fond of all the rough edges, there's nothing else quite like it.
If you like rolling dice and getting stuff you should try Space Base, if you like making trades and deals you should try Chinatown, if you like building routes and/or screwing people over you should try Bus, Santiago, Irish Gauge, or Ride the Rails.
+1 for space base. It's like the fun bits from catan without having to wait for two players to negotiate a trade nobody else cares about.
Completely different genre and gameplay (coop, deck builder), way more complex, but spirit island is basically catan but instead you play catan.
Can anyone confirm this would be the English version? The description has a whole bunch of languages listed
I wasn't too sure about it either but I'm sure you can find an english version online somewhere easily. Still worth it without an english manual
It's likely to be German but the game is language dependant and you'd only only need some english reminders for the various buildings and monastery tiles effects. Get pickup if you're getting into board games but if you have the budget, space and want the best version version, the Awakened Realms Special Edition is the one to get at $200+

Just to confirm, is it just the instructions that are in german?
I bought this version as an upgrade for my basic one - the game components are language agnostic and there is an English booklet.
Picked it up last time it dropped, great game at this price
this is a very decent game at $58 dollars, but if you have played Castles of Burgundy: Special Edition by Awaken Realms, then you can't go back to this version.
if only it wasn't a 150$ price difference
