Hi, StewBalls. I am sorry to replay you such late coz I am in examination period. I called the Fair Trading. The consultant said the COTD only has an obligation to refund instead of send me another iPad. I said how it make sense if every website do the same thing to increase the customers visits? Fair Trading said if I think the COTD was deliberate, I can only to filled a form on the website to complaint it, that's all. I fell sad that the customers cannot do anything about such cases. PS: Thank you so so so much for you kindly help!

Catchoftheday and a bunch of other organizations get promoted on ACA and TT on a regular basis. Take a look how many times they refer to bargain or tech sites and neither mention us or Whirlpool (zero). It's always some unknown expert from some unknown website. So I guess my who won't you deal with company is ACA/TT for disguising infomercials as news.

I bought a brand new Mitsubishi Evolution 10, after 12,000 km the clutch blew (And yes I know what your thinking), I didnt ride the clutch or race it, it was my everyday drive.. Well you know how Mitsi keeps banging on about 5 year warranty etc, well it was not covered. I decided to get an excedy after market clutch $3000 later, and I thought that was the end of it. However Mitsi decided to change the CMC (Cluthmaster cylinder) in this current model to a plastic one, and with heavier clutches they pop. Needless to say I had to get the car towed twice, and put an after market one which cost about $500. I called Mitsi about this and nothing happened the same B.S about wear.
So thats my rant, won't be buying another one, that simple, and I dont service my car with Mitsi dealer.

    • clucthes (and brakes) have never been covered under warranty- especially for awd cars.

But 12k klms is outright crap, I would expect 50k for an every day driven car. 30k if you have a bit of fun (not abuse)

3k is too much for a clucth- even with labour. You could get a twin plate competition clucth for under $2500 + install. Not that you would want to use that on an every day car.

The people who supplied the clutch- should have advised you that you will sooner or later need to change the master at the least. Additional "required" parts should always be supplied.

The problem with retail these days is everyone is lazy/busy and cbf explaining anything. They leave all of it up to the consumer so you need to become an expert on the topic yourself before you commit to buy.

Middle men smack on their margin, and do what exactly for it? Stock it? Sometimes, most of the time they ring up the manufacturer or another stockist. They smack on 30 to 50% margin for making a phone call. If they are really lucky they can make extra and dupe you in the process too

    Good Price Pharmacy.

They'll advertise that they match competitors prices, but when you asks them they'll tell you they can't discount government subsidised prescriptions. This is misleading BS, if they sold me the generic Lipitor for $14.99 like Chemist Warehouse (which includes the PBS sticker for this price), then it wouldn't be a government subsidised prescription. Good Price want to sell it for $35.40 and then get an extra subsidy from the government as well.

Good Price for Pharmacy, but Bad Price for Customer.

    • Where can you get lipitor for $14.99? I always pay $35.40 for 20mg at Chemist Warehouse.

      • +2

$14.99 is for the 10mg generic Lipitor. (Other chemists still charge $35.40 for the 10mg)

But I don't see why you couldn't buy two packs of the 10mg for $29.98 instead (just take 2 tablets?). It would save you $5.42, and the taxpayer would save because the government wouldn't have to pay any subsidies.

        • Just noticed that Atorvastatin Sandoz 10mg, 20mg & 40mg are the same price of $14.99

Does it mean that, for someone who is on 10mg, can by 40mg and cut tablets into quarters and consume?

        • Probably best to ask a Doctor that…

        • Probably not advisable since most medications diminish in their active ingredients when cut and exposed to air, but ask your Doc anyway cause your meds might be different.

        • If the medicine is SR - slow release or suspended release you CANNOT and SHOULD NOT cut up tablets -You can have adverse or even fatal effects like overdosing (getting the dosage at once instead of the medication releasing over 12 hrs). This also applies for meds that have a special coating and gel/powder capsules/pills (yeah I know I'm stating the obvious!)!

For most other medicines; you can get the larger dose & portion it accordingly. It's also best to portion them on an as needed basis as you don't want air/moisture to get into them as that can lessen the medications effectiveness. You should, of course, discuss this with you Dr first as they can advise you best.

For eg: A friend's taking migraine preventing meds that are very expensive and my gp prescribed a higher dose, as well as a bigger quantity, so she can save even more $. He was more than happy to write a prescription for a higher dosage but not all drs will do so I've noticed :/

But. As I stated earlier - it is important to discuss this with your Doctor and/or Pharmacist.
          HTH :)

        • In theory, yes. But since the medication is not guaranteed to be evenly distributed throughout the tablet, no.

Your biggest problem would be to get a doctor to prescribe you the 40mg tablets if you only take 10mg. However, it is common practice to cut a tablet in half (if necessary) where the medication is not sold in that half dose.

    Hewlett Packard.

I'm a computer tech, and I've seen so many people who have had failing HPs, but failing that, here is my own experience.

Bought a pavilion dv7 laptop back in Jan last year, $2170 from JB hifi, so not a cheap one, i7, 8gb ram, etc. it started overheating in about july of last year. spoke to their customer support, they said they would send someone to pick it up. They never did, and after about 20 phonecalls over the next few months, someone FINALLY came out in January, about 3 days before the warranty expired. They returned it 4 days later, with a "faulty thermal module" as the reason.

in about May, it started doing exactly the same thing, but since it's warranty had expired, they now don't want to know me, and as a result, everytime i talk to HP, they say "Your warranty is up, go get it fixed". I even asked to speak to a supervisor, and i got a voicemail the other night at 6pm, while i was eating my dinner, saying "this is so and so from hp, I'm ringing about your computer, as the warranty is expired, go get it fixed".

I heard it's not when they actually pick it up, but when you log the fault that matters, and as i did it back on july of last year, i thought i was entitled to another 6months warranty period since they ignored me. They said my records were to old to look up :(. Funnily enough, Intel recalled that Motherboard as well, due to sata ports failing or something, but HP don't seem to care about that either. Never dealing with HP again.

In comparison, I was in Mac1 at Fyshwick the other day, they said a woman brought her iphone in after going through the washing machine, and they replaced it anyway. Apple forever :)

    • +1

      2 words.. Statutory warranty.

That being said I've found Mac1's service in Civic (now gone) and Fyshwick to be horrible. Maybe they've picked up their game since Apple moved into town?

      • I can add that my Mac1 service experiences have been nothing short of woeful.

      • find me where those prices were valid almost 2 years ago :) the absolute cheapest i could get what i wanted then was that price :( it was like the only model that was in the store that had a 17" screen :(

        • +1

          ^^This.

Plus there were loads of other options/stores. I found 4 with 17"(some +) i7's for family members that happily snapped em up. JB would be the last place I would have looked at, if I considered them at all!

I'm sorry, but maybe you didn't look hard enough :/

    • Don't get me started on HP Australia & DV series laptops…

    • +3

Yeah, but if HP charged you 4k for that laptop then I'm sure they'd be happy to drop you a new one just like Apple. If Apple told me they'd sell me an Iphone for a reasonable price rather than rip me off so they can replace phone for people that do something stupid, IMO it would be a fairer system. Right now every other Apple user is paying for this lady's phone.

Harvey Norman. They sold me a demo model tablet (Samsung GT 7.7), without telling me of its condition, for full price - blatantly lying to my face as they did so: "We had to open the box to check it didn't have a US adapter", after a half hour of their preparations with it. It was an online order, too, so they were merely fulfilling the order. (Hindsight is 20/20, so I bought the damned thing because the price was excellent).

Of course, that was all ruined when the tablet had AMOLED screed burn in, and I returned it. They nearly didn't take it back, too, but I was persuasive. This time, they offered me new (way to give yourselves away, guys) 32GB tablet for about $150 more - no apology for having tried to rip me off, and no attempt at keeping the sale by matching the 32GB tablet for the 16GB's price. Right.

I don't think I'll be dealing with them again.

    • What the frick!

Have you not heard of busting skulls?

      • +1

I have heard of 'busting skulls'… but I also hear it's legality is questionable :-)

        • Yeah, unfortunately that seems to be my layman's take on skullbustin' legislation too! ;)

    • Harvey Norman O'Connor the young lad at the camera counter attempted to convince me the point and click I was chasing would be a good deal (same price as everyone else but HN had stock), then attempted to offload the display model to me. When he retrieved it from the case and wiped it down it still had finger prints all over it, protective plastic was removed from the screens. He assured me it was 'as new' and proceeded to get uppity when I declined to purchase it. I have not seen that staff member there since.

    • Two experiences with Harvey Norman Albury:

      1. Bought a point & shoot digital camera. It was DOA. Instead of allowing us to swap it, they insisted on repair. A few weeks later it was returned to us in exactly the same condition. Returned again for repair. After six more weeks they agreed to allow us to get a refund for the camera and give us store credit.

      2. Bought a Dual Boiler Breville Coffee maker for $1500 about 10 months prior to it developing an electrical fault. HN Albury insisted that we deal directly with the manufacturer for returns. We had to box it up for a courier to come and pick it up the next day. I got angry and complained to HN Albury; citing the ACCC website that says that the contract of sale is between the consumer and the retailer and all warranty issues be handled between the two. They called me back and agreed to handle the shipping if I told them that "the manager authorised this". By that stage I had already done boxing and it was sent off.

      • that sucks.

Yep, paypal suck the big one, hide behind form responses, barely a brain cell in customer service.

Still they make a crapload of money, so must be doing something right.

    • I didn't particularly have much of an opinion one way or the other until earlier in the year when I had about 3 purchases in a row where the seller wasn't forthcoming with refunds - the first was the phone bought from DWI mentioned earlier in this thread - after weeks of promising refunds it became clear they were never going to do it off their own backs.

I don't buy online without using Paypal

      • +1

        Probably worth mentioning my experience.

avoid accepting it (paypal) if you can. Almost to the point of boycotting it. If someone wants to buy something from you they will DD it.

Just because ebay prefers it doesnt mean your protected. Dodgy sellers know how to get around it (same as dodgy buyers). So even if you win a rightful chargeback through them doesnt mean you will get your money back. In teh case of selling, you can be left out of pocket without your item

If online sellers (companies) accept it and charge the same fee's as normal credit card fees etc, use it. Their system will work in your favour when some credit card companies wont (i.e combank mastercard)

        • Just because ebay prefers it doesnt mean your protected. Dodgy sellers know how to get around it (same as dodgy buyers).

Ebay prefers it because ebay and paypal are the same company… pay via paypal = a bit more money (in fees) for them

        • 10% of the total selling price goes to eBay( and PayPal)

    • I agree. I've had numerous issues, both as a buyer and seller. The most annoying part is the standard template replies - "Please read the FAQs. This complaint has been closed" and that it gets passed on from one person to another. So each time you reply to a conversation, someone new picks it up, and you have to explain the whole situation all over again.

        • +2

Do you know anything about "the economy" other than what the media has told you?
It's called specialization and outsourcing. You need to be competitive, or you fail.
Go hard or go home. Be that much better (Australian Company, product and employees) than the other entitiy (Chinese Manufacturer).

Alternatively, ensure your product doesn't have a substitute in terms of what your product can do for the user.

It's now a Global Economy. While we source cheaper products from overseas, other countries will source skills from Australians (assuming there are some that are proficient at what they do), for what a different country does not have.

          Shame of Australian sellouts?
This is OzBargain, acquiring the best at the lowest available prices. We're just facilitating "Natural Selection" for those involved with the retail market of things.

Oh by the way, you wanted some facts.. Nothing can be guaranteed 100% Australian unless it's fruit or vegetables, even then I bet you that it's been transported by vehicles other than a Holden Commodre.

          http://greensmps.org.au/sites/default/files/country_of_origi…
Most Australians expect that terms like ‘Made in Australia’ on food products mean thatthe food is from Australian growers. However under current laws ‘Made in Australia’ and ‘Australian Made’ can legally be used where the food in question has been transformed, and 50% or more of the transformation costs were incurred here.

Also, I bet you the fuel that you use in your car isn't 100% from Australia, you mad?

          much prefere japanese.

I like Japanese; I also like pizza, steak & Mexican food. Guess what, they're all different…just like us! :p

        • Completely agree with cwongtech.

          Further:

Buying from higher-priced Australian retailer = promoting non-efficient economies, losing resources to deadweight loss, slows Australian growth in long-term.

Buying from more competitively-priced alternative retailers (often Chinese) = promoting efficiency through competition, promoting Chinese market growth which then stimulates the Australian resources boom which gives Australian workers jobs.

Plus, products can be labelled "Made in Australia" if only 50% or more of their components were manufactured in Australia. Go figure.

I hate people like Dick Smith who go on the news and tell people to buy from his supermarket instead of Coles and Woolies because he sources all his products from Australian farmers. It's all incredibly misleading. We should all buy from whoever is able to sell to us at the cheapest rate. Further, buying from him doesn't necessarily mean it will help Aussie farmers. With the agribusiness boom we're facing in the near future, Aussie farmers won't care if we don't buy from them, they will face such high global demand for their products that the figures for local sales won't even matter anymore.

    • +4

i call bs. Even if it's made in Australia, I'll bet it's made with Chinese components.

    • +6

      What's wrong with China?
Without China, your local prices wouldn't even be as cheap.

I would avoid Made in China FOODS if there is a substitute
Everything else, I really don't care because it's not going inside my body.

Oh…. reasons: It's cheaper. Plastic poor quality crap? Buy something made out of a different material then.

      • +1

More jobs here. Better made products. Better conditions for workers. Better on the environment.

        Example:
Australian made tools (power drills, planes etc) work for ever.
Chinese made tools work for a couple months to years. There are some good brands that make good quality tools in China, but still won't be as good as Australian or Japanese made etc.

        • I'm not willing to pay an extra 75%-200% for a similar product so someone else can work in Australia, unless the quality really is that much better or necessary.

In regard to TOOLS, I agree with Chinese tools not being that great since they're skimping out on the materials they use it to make it with (to maximize profits)

    • +1

Quality control on many Chinese products is very good now. Personally I would hesitate to buy most Australian made products. Materials may be good, but quality control systems usually aren't.

BT (bankers trust) superannuation. This is a few years back, and I called their hotline because I was considering moving my super to another fund because their performance was a bit ordinary. But their verbatim quote that I'll never forget was: "it's not your money". I said "Yes, it is, my super is my money, I just can't access it yet", and they said "no, it's not, it's your employer's money". Major alarms bells went off, and I got every cent out of there ASAP. Sure enough I think they ran into financial problems later, and then got bought by Westpac, but I'd never use them again under any circumstances. Plus now I'd always use a fund that is not the employer's default, so that there is no doubt that you are the customer.

Nobbys Kitchens. Got one of their salesmen out to give us a design and quote for a new kitchen, started off pleasantly enough, and then he started rapidly verbalising a series of prices at us for different fit-out options. Me, I find it easier to process multiple price options when seeing them, rather than hearing them. When we said we'd like the prices and what we were getting written down, and 24 hours to think it over, he said the prices were a special and we had to sign that day, then stood up and left, refusing to give us a written costing or any information about what we were getting for that money, unless we signed on the dot then and there. His manager called later, and I said it was crazy that we still didn't know what the cost was or what we'd get for it, and he promised he'd get us prices, but nothing ever came.

    • +1

Funny you should mention BT…I had a managed share fund with them years ago & I heard the same alarm bells when it stopped being a standout performer. This rat got off the ship then, but I was wondering what happened over there, interesting to hear they needed bailing out, coz they were going great guns at one point!

Unfortunately, a lot of trustees are seeing super funds as a licence to leech money…the government does not seem to be inclined to dissuade them from this assumption either! :s

  • Can someone help me out here. So I've purchased something from http://www.grambox.com/ however its been 2-3 months and it still hasn't arrived. They responded to my email once, about 1-2 months ago. (Now I'm assuming that email was to waste time so the 45 Paypal period is crossed). However after that I have sent 3 follow-up emails and still have not received a reply. I obviously can't launch a paypal dispute any more since it has been over 45 days. What do you guys suggest I do?

    • I thought you had to wait 45 days before you could paypal

      • No, you don't - you only have that long that you can put in a claim.

revolushenary, did you by any chance use cc to fund your payment? If so, do a chargeback.

        • cc? credit card? I used paypal if that helps, they only accept paypal

        • Yes, but when you make your paypal payment, you get to choose whether the funds come from an bank account or via credit card (this can include visa debit, mastercard debit etc). If you selected a credit card payment option via paypal you can still do a charge back via your card provider, even though the paypal claims period has lapsed.

        • Surely the cc chargeback is only against revs PayPal acount which rev is still responsible for?
ie. Paypal acount will go negative and that will be covered in their conditions or I'd run mine in the red all week long as effectively paypal would be a line of credit………

        • No - it is paypal (as opposed to his/her personal paypal account) who has done the debit from his/her credit card account. It doesn't really matter that paypal might have been the middleman in the transaction. If you've paid for something with your credit card and did not receive it you're entitled to put in claim.

They refused to refund the difference even though it was their mistake, never using them again.

  • Telstra Online Shop. As detailed here, I wanted to buy a Defy+ smartphone. After filling in CC details and one last look at the order, I clicked Buy and was shocked to find that I had ordered a nanoSIM. I have no idea how that got substituted into my basket. I never went near the SIM section of the shop. I don't even have an iPhone for a nanoSIM, FFS. Some DB admin mucking around in the backend, who knows?

Anyway I got onto Telstra's chat line and I have to say their (Filipino?) reps were kind and told me to reject the delivery and they would do a chargeback. We'll see how that goes.

But wait, I have one more company to add to my private blacklist: Startrack Express, or at least their courier bringing them into disrepute. According to the tracking page, it was supposed to be delivered today. So I resign myself to being a prisoner at home. Nobody called. Then the tracking page claims that nobody was in and they left a card to collect from the PO. What!? No such card in my mailbox or under the door. They must have gone to the wrong address. I call Startrack and a kind rep agreed to send the package back to Telstra. I'll leave it to Startrack to retrieve it from the PO. I don't even have a card to collect it from the PO even if I wanted to.

I expect it will be a while before I see my money refunded but I'm willing to be surprised.

I wont deal with red rooster anymore. When I was working late one night a few years ago I went past the shop just before it was closing up. I asked if it was ok to buy food and they said it was, but their eftpos was down because they had turned it off/closed it up/whatever. They told me to go to the ATM which was about 5 meters away from the shop. When I got back after getting cash out (not even a minute) someone had locked the front door on me. I walked to the drive through window where someone was being served and asked they why they did it, she just stared at me and said sorry.

I obviously didn't learn my lesson because a few months later I decided to lift my boycott and I gave it another go. I sat in the store waiting for my order, and after watching many people come and go I asked "have you forgotten about my order?" they had, it seems. They quickly put together some cold, congealed crap and gave it to me. When I got home and found it was cold I was furious, and of course it was in a dumb metal foil container so I couldn't microwave it easily.

The first incident was at the rivervale (wa) store, the second was one on canning highway. Crappy food and even worse service, consistently.

I haven't spent a cent there since and I have asked my family not to go there. I will never go there again as long as I live!! grrr

    • The worst RR in my opinion is the one in Mosman Park. There are few fast food restaurants in the area and they don't have to provide good customer service.

They very frequently do not have toys to go with the kids meals. You pay over the odds for RR kids meals and then you get to the window and it is either some 5 cents chinese toy that they bought in bulk to shut people up or they have nothing, even though they have posters for specific toys. Also, they charge an arm and a leg to change the drink with the kids meal. EVEN WHEN THEY ARE OUT OF THE DRINKS THAT GO WITH THE KIDS MEAL!

Event because we went to "Where the Wild Things Are" for my daughter's birthday. What a tedious and boring bit of nothing.

    • What happened? Did it end?

  • Dealsdirect. The name shall be forever cursed in my household.
Ordered two 2tb harddrives for around $80 each with free shipping.

This was only a few hours after the tsunami in thailand happened, causing the disruptions to hard drive prices which are only just now starting to settle. I tried ordering 4, thinking I would post the deal here if they had enough stock, but 3 was evidently the maximum left in stock. Ordered my 2 hard drives, checked again and yes the stock was now down to 1.

Fast forward 2 weeks later. I email them, as I still haven't got it. Reply is a unapologetic "yeah, out of stock, have a nice day". Takes another 3 weeks to get my money back, and by then the prices have well and truly gone up.

Now when anyone mentions DD I tell them to avoid it as its overpriced, and even if you do find a good deal they refuse to sell it and keep your money tied up for months.

Far better experience with Gocomp. Made the order at the same time, and had them in hand a week later. Although a little less impressed when one of them broke soon afterwards, and they charged $12 for the return rma shipping. Still heads above DD.

    Penta computers.

I could not BELIEVE the hassles I had with them.

Basically they said that they would send all items instantly if in stock or they would refund, and after 3 days I asked for a refund. I have NEVER been called such names in my life. Liar is only the start of it. And they insisted on sending the good anyway. AFTER 2 WEEKS!!!!

And they would NOT let me cancel the order unless I paid $50!

It was quite a head spin, and never again. You can get some great deals on the internet but you can also unwittingly be forced to deal with some complete cretins. Such as penta computers.

Worst customer experience ever. And I used to bank with the commonwealth.

    Kmart Tyre an Auto http://www.ktas.com.au

To make a long story short, they way overfilled the oil in my engine on a regular service.

This caused all sorts of damage to it, they are not liable for :(

    • I suspect this really depends on the individual store, I have been very happy with the service from mine.

    • They should be liable for it. They damaged it no one else.

    • Same story, mum had a regular service check at Burwood Kmart Auto and somehow after it, the car started leaking oil and they wouldn't own up to it. Had to pay for the repairs ($500+) ourselves at another place, never going back to Kmart auto.

I think they are a franchise?
My local one is great -using them for years..

  • The Home Baking Company.

I had a Cudo voucher to get meals delivered to my house. It's been 7 weeks since I ordered but still haven't received them. Bad communication and they don't keep their promises

  • Bad experience with AirAsia, although due to costs I will still use them;

Purchased 5 return tickets from Perth to Bali. Realised I had purchased on the flight that leaves around 8.45pm instead of the early afternoon flight. My bad - fair cop, so I paid the extra $20 or so a ticket in change fee, plus an extra $25 or so in higher fares to go to a more family friendly flight time. Couple of hundred all up, but if it meant not having to drag young kids though an airport in Bali after 1 in the morning, then well worth it.

About 4 weeks later, I get an email informing me of that particular flight's cancellation, and I had been moved to the… you guessed it - the 8.45pm flight.

No joy with getting anything refunded. Perhaps I should have read the 7 pages of 6 point font T&C.

  • Chefs in Shorts; http://www.chefsinshorts.com

Purchased this as a Scoopon. Booked my 2 weeks worth of meals straight away.

Received an email a couple of weeks later saying they were overwhelmed, and there would be about a two week delay.

"Please expect an email or a call from us by the end of this week or next week, explaining the next step to your new and exciting food journey. Hopefully, this is the start of a beautiful and delicious partnership between us." <——— haha

    Then a week later;

"We apologise for the delay in receiving your gourmet meals. We are in your area on Thursday 15th of March after 6pm to deliver your order. Please email back to confirm this is a suitable time and date for you."

emailed back with an OK. No one turned up. Rang them, they apologised and organised delivery for the a couple of nights later and would text me when they were on the way. OK, so I organised to stay at home again. Received the text… no one came.

    a few days later;

"we are hoping for customers if its not to inconvenient to pick up their orders. This will help us greatly and also speed up the time frame in which you will be getting your food. From monday 19/3/12, all we need is 72 hrs notice and an e mail back outlining when and approximately what time you want to come in and get your order, I will be able to organise it for you. Our adress is shop 19 350 cambridge st and our opening hours are monday-saturday 10.30pm-6pm."

There goes the delivery part of the deal… and a 90 minute return journey instead

Phone calls then went unanswered, as did emails. Was then completely ignored.

Scoopon were very quick with the refund.

And so ended the beautiful and delicious partnership between us.
