  • I’ve tried this and unfortunately I couldn’t get it to work. It says requires a TV License.

Just click yes when the pop up apears.

      • Awesome, thanks for the tip.

I have also noticed if you accept cookies from the site, it detects you are using a VPN and blocks the content

    • Yes, so everyone please do the same, lets flood OzBargain full of 'deals'

    • It's only every two years you get to watch the AFCON with BBC.

    • +12

The official broadcaster for Australia is BEIN Sports. That costs $14.99 a month if you're with Fetch or $19.99 a month from BEIN Sports direct. I think you can also subscribe to BEIN Sports via Amazon Prime for a similar amount. The point being, that you need to pay for it. If you can get it for free via BBC + VPN then I think it's a deal.

Personally, I would just pay the subscription fee as it's only 1 month. There is a deal on OzBargain where you can watch the UEFA Champions League for free via a VPN. This is a much better deal as this tournament runs over multiple months and the official way of watching it in Australia is via Stan at an exorbitant rate. This is a much better deal.

        Fair point. Comment removed.

      • I subscribe to beIN Connect by Google Play so I can just use balance from Google Rewards. Usually to watch replays of Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea

        • any idea which country has the cheapest Bein Sport sub ?

          • +1

@ssd01: Mine is $14.99 for AU that I can usually get from Google for surveys etc. Not sure if VPN can be used to sign up in other countries.

This information is very very handy to me as an african football fan.. just go and hide deals that contain ‘bbc’ and be done with it instead of whining about silly things on a Sunday morning.

      • +5

But what is he's looking for other deals that also relates to BBC…..

        • I am always on the look out for deals on Big Blueberry Cupcakes.

          • +1

@PainToad: I made muffins last night with fresh blueberries I picked yesterday afternoon, if you’re interested.

            • @Chazzozz: Yeah but how much are they?

              • @Pusdi: Well, normally I’d say they’re about $5 each but since this is OzB the traditional thing to do is jack up the RRP by at least twice that, then have a ‘sale’ price at a discount of 25% plus an additional code to enter at checkout giving you a further 10% off. If you’re willing to give me all your deets in advance with a valid CC number to verify them then I’ll even give you 5% off your first purchase. Still sound like a good deal? ;-)

        • They can PM me.

  • Thank you very much for this!!
Is there any trick to stream to tv?

    • +6

Easiest way is through a fire stick. Change your Amazon account to the UK, "buy" the free apps for their tv service then change your account back. My fire stick has UK, Australia a d new Zealand apps all loaded up on one account and you just point Nord at whatever country you want to watch.

      • Is it that easy? I've had a prick of a time creating and using a UK Google account to get apps onto my Chromecast with Google TV.

Primarily interested in a couple of NZ channels and most of the UK ones. Would buy a fire stick if it made things easy.

        • +2

Yeah it is. There is intermittent issues with some apps being blocked so we occasionally need to reinstall things like BBC and that tends to sort it for a while.

UK wise I couldn't find half the apps on the play store to install so fire sticks made life much easier.

          • @Everettpsycho: Yeah I suspect the Chromecast with Google TV isn't as popular over there. Seems like everyone has a TV or STB with Freeview built in that does it all for them.

Thanks for the info. I've confirmed all the services I intend to use have Fire TV apps. Just gotta get a good deal on a Firestick now. One other question: did you use your usual Amazon account or create a throwaway?

            • +1

@LlamaLlamaLamp: I think youview and freeview on demand over there meant most didn't need apps on Google TVs. Youview was a fantastic development when I first got it, simple integration of IPTV, OTA broadcast, recordings and catch up services all from one epg was a game changer that made sense of modern services. I suspect Freeview is probably pre installed like it is in NZ.

I just used my normal Amazon account but the damage is already done on that one having genuinely lived in all three countries. You could use a burner though as unless you use prime video it doesn't use anything off the account other than the free apps.

It's also handy you can tunnel some apps through the vpn so your local ones you don't need to turn the vpn off to work.

I just sideloaded the bbc app onto my tcl google tv and watch direct on tv .. been working fine for years + nord vpn app

      • I tried that when the Rugby World cup was on. Chromecast with GTV would start but just freeze after a while.
I ended up just connecting an old SP3 notebook to the TV via HDMI. Worked great and controlled it via an Remote control App on phone and just left it in place for other times like these.

  • Asian cup? Channel 10 only shows Aust games.

If your VPN can connect to Hong Kong, all matches live and free on https://hoy.tv with English (and Cantonese) commentary. Also free on YouTube in some countries, all of which are surely too obscure for your VPN service.

      • That's great! How do you change to english audio please?

        • +2

Actually, the HOY website and app are rubbish and won't let you. The m3u8 streams themselves are multi-audio if you know how to play them: ch76, ch77. I don't know about the on-demand content.

          • @SocietyBox: oh is it these two channels that show the games? Can always just cast my browser to TV. Thank you

Easier to use a DNS redirect than a VPN (after the app is installed). Smart DNS Proxy works - I've been using it for years.

    African, BBC, lol…

    • +1

Dont get it, way more detail required

      • -2

hornpub is a good place to start…

Respect for those who want to watch it. I don’t mind a bit of a break in my football watching. I find the epl enough nowadays but I am getting old, not enough time to watch the football I already have access to let alone look for more.

It’s different for those who support a specific African team. As a west ham fan, I will miss kudus for a few games, he’s probably been our third best player this season.

    • -3

      a west ham fan

I’m more of an east bacon fan.

      • +6

I hope you get well soon.

  • BBC are only showing 10 matches.

  • -6

Wait, so people usually pay to watch 22 other people, usually women now days, chase a ball for hours?

Anything for the AFC Asian Cup?

It gets so little attention, if at all…

Just in case people forgot, or have no idea, Australia is in the tournament, as we are part of the AFC. But we seem to care more about European football.

    • +1

Already shared in my earlier comments.

  • I cannot update the app. It says not available in your Google play store country even though i have VPN

  • BBC? Lols They probably drop the phrase "systemic racism" every 10 minutes.
