    More like a "soundblock"…

I find it hard to believe that a soundbar of this size can provide a very satisfying listening experience (doubly so if you're keen on atmos) with such tiny drivers as listed in the description: "Drivers: (Soundbar) L / R Tweeter: 2 x 0.75” L / C / R Mid: 3 x 2” (Sub) 5” x 7” (127mm x 178mm)".

Unless you're extremely space limited, you would surely get a way better experience from something like the Edifier S360DB for the same price.

I've sourced a full 5.1 system with receiver, 5 speakers and a sub with eARC and 4k passthru for a mate recently for only $350 on Facebook Marketplace. There are so many cheap 5.1/7.1 systems on marketplace for those that can be bothered to go that route.

    • Are there any RMS measurements? Is that the be all end all?

      • These are obviously intended to upgrade stock tv speakers while minimising the aesthetic impact of a full length soundbar. It’s an aesthetic choice imo

I have a high-end Polk soundbar from 2014, it’s fine and does a good job for a small to medium sized room but it’s a black box in terms of adjustment or tuning. They may well’ve made these new ones more tunable than they used to be but compared to a Yamaha for example you just get what you’re given.

As to comparing it to an actual 5.1/7.1 system nobody seriously looking at a soundbar is likely to have an interest in a dedicated system, it’s part of the value proposition of the soundbar format that you get a reasonable compromise for a very compact setup.

        • Yeah I agree with you 100%. I feel with these products, looking at their size and their price… how much has been spent on each component in a speaker with this much tech and drivers in it? I'd always prefer having just a 2.0 or 2.1 system with larger speakers, properly spaced, with good presence, than to cram a bunch of tiny drivers into a tiny plasticky body, that relies on room reflections to fix the lack of speaker placement and "atmos" (if this is attempting to add height channels). This unit will still sound better than TV sound, for sure, but to me there's still a large gulf between units like these and larger discrete speakers like the ones I linked (which can be had for the same price). Everyone's needs are different though, of course.

    • That is the older, non AX titled model without ATMOS.

      Otherwise $699

      • I have the older version and it does pack a punch for its size. Pretty happy with its sound and performance. There are not many choices around if you want something small and inconspicuous sitting under the TV.
