@bamzero: I learned my lesson by missing out on limited time cheap deals because of cashback. I Just click, buy, think later, free amazon return if you have second thoughts or sell on Marketplace for profits. Many people would buy this for $250+
@easternculture: Honest question - do you have a house full of stuff from deals etc? Are you making or losing money?

But i sell some stuff i use and dont like and find not useful to counteract so not loosing money.
Like for example i bought a few projectors for $30ish but didnt like them, i listed them on MP for $100 to try and sell before returning to amazon, ended up selling for $80 and making $50 profit.
And then the profits fund my new impulse buys and the cycle continues

But yes, my place became a landfill so I decided a while ago to avoid anything I can't make a profit on or I just end up not using, like EC.
It's more the thrill of getting a bargain. I end up donating alot of stuff to a local pay it forward group.
5w won't cut through wood. Well, saying that it might cut 1-2mm with few passes. Have a 5w and engraving fine on wood. Just waiting for my 80w one with air assist. Air assist prevent the "burn marks apparently" fairly new to this too. The 80w will cut through 10mm wood easily with one pass. . Had a 3018 cnc/laser but ended up building a larger one. Upgraded the spindle for cnc to a 500w one. Arduino Uno, cnc shield 12v power supply. Few nema stepper motors. Lead screws. Be warned though. Have goggles and exhaust fan. I got mine in shed. Especially if cutting/engraving acrylics.
I just want to engrave on bottle, cups, phone cases etc
@easternculture: It might work with 5w. What you want is to add a Rotary roller as doing round objects. I am gonna build one. Something like this (link below). I use lightburn as software to control laser(cost under $100. Not cheap but apparently one of the better ones) free one is example laserGRBL
@easternculture: Clamps for flat surface. As the laser have a focus area it won't really work on rounded objects (further away on sides). It needs the same height. Angle would be off and sides would hardly be engraved. Reckon can build one cheap if you got some parts. I got what I need to build one as too many projects lol. See on Ali can get one for around $50.
Thanks, I was consoling myself with the assumption that it wouldn't :) Though wasn't thinking anything as thick as 10mm, maybe more like 3 to 5mm although cutting acrylic would be great too.
I've dabbled with engraving on my Anycubic Mega Pro 3d printer that came with a 1.5W laser module but has a tiny working area. I was pretty impressed with the results as far as engraving goes though, so bigger and better next.
@bamzero: Clear acrylic don't really work with a diode laser. And believe blue as well but not sure about that one. As laser is blue. Need a CO2 or other laser to cut clear acrylics. The lights in diode go straight through clear acrylic. Colored ones are fine apparently..there are ways around it. Example paint surface and wipe after and so on. Still pretty new on this.
@Mikael: For certain acrylic colours (caveat: with a cheap little laser) I found that marking the surface with a yellow highlighter was enough for me to burn into the surface a little. May, I repeat may, work for this application as well.

@fatbunn: Ordered a laser tree brand one this time. Still 80w. I know cheaper tomorrow. But just "needed" one haha. Not the ozbargain way though. Aliexpress stepped in to get refund/return. After I read few reviews for store and some had same issue..arghh. should've read there and not just the item. Oh well. One day I'll learn.

@UncleRico: That's good to hear. I find the easiest way to buy stuff on sale is to simply add them to your watchlist and check back often. But be careful as some things can be supposedly on sale from Aliexpress but are actually cheaper on Amazon from time to time.
