Would this be enough for Minecraft / Roblox for a young child?

    • Roblox probably, Minecraft depends on the settings. Also keep in mind this only has DisplayPort no HDMI (I believe)

      • Thanks, Ill keep that in mind while I watch for refurbs

      • +4

Dp to Hdmi is only $8 away

    • My kids play both games and have played on this exact setup with no issues. As for the displayport, you can get an adapter dp to hdmi or even a dp to hdmi cable. Both work well.

  • -2

According to Tom it has HDMI. There are VESA mounts available to mount it on the back of a monitor.

    • +1

Go to Tom's image of the back of their model, and see the two screws holding the HDMI port. It's not from the mainboard, it's a little add-in module.

    • +5

The current listed units don't have optional HDMI port.

    • +1

Tom's version also has included wifi and a wifi antenna. Not sure this version has that

      • Where can I get Tom's version? I am looking for one with wifi. Thanks in advance.

  • Ram is 2x8 GB or 1x 16 GB?
    Drive is m.2 or SATA?

  • +3

since some ozbargain members find it so important, this has a single core geekbench score of 711, 2257 multi-core

    • I have to assume this is miles better than a raspberry pi etc, right?

      • +2

Rpi 5 has a geekbench score of 603 single, 1608 multi. It's not apples to apples though as it's different architecture. But generally speaking yes, it'll be a good amount faster than the fastest pi. Pi will be better on energy use if that matters to you, though.

        • Ah thanks legend! Hmm not sure about how much I care about the energy usage. But a good point. As long as they are quiet, I think that should do me.

What are the chances I can hackintosh this do you thing? 😅

          • +2

@Larsson: Could be possible, but Hackintosh will be dead soon with Apple moving to ARM so it's not worth it imo.

  • +1

I have two of these. They come standard with 2 x Display Ports. Just use a DP to HDMI cable. A great PC if your use is not too demanding. Almost silent. A great deal for 16GB.

I added an Intel A200 wifi/bluetooth card (short M.2). It is a separate slot from the M.2 for the NVMe storage. If you want to fit the 2 x external antennas you need to enlarge one of the holes at the back.

    • +2

Would this be good for downloading/streaming media and light web browsing on the TV?

      • +2

Certainly fine for light web browsing and downloading. For streaming it has HD530 graphics vs HD630 with a 7th gen cpu. Others may have more knowledge on what the limitations are.

        • +1

Fine for 1080p SDR. 4K and/or HDR may not work so well. Ideally want HD630/UHD630 gfx (7xxx CPU or above)

    • By chance, is that the Intel AX200? Mine is stock but I replaced the antenna on mine as the flimsy internal cable that connects the antenna to the internal card was twisted and I now get consistent dropouts.

      • Whoops, sorry. AX200 it is. I did not think any of these models came with wifi cards as standard. Maybe yours was an added option. Also, as I said before, there is only spot for a single antenna, so you need to create a hole for the second one. Not hard. I knocked out the blanking plates for one of the expansion ports and attached a piece of aluminium with a hole.

  • Is express post included in the shipping? I'm in Sydney and flying out on Sat

    • Its standard free shipping, but leave us a message in chat and we can organise it.

  • Might make a good android studio 711 helicopter machine.

  • +1

Can confirm this is a decent unit. Just be careful if you plan to use it as a Plex server because the transcoding power is not great. But no complaint at all at this price.

    • -1

because the transcoding power is not great

Yeah, local Plex server should be fine.

      • +1

Local or remote makes zero difference if your client doesn’t natively support the media being played.

        • Local or remote makes zero difference

Not quite true, if the remote connection is slow, it'll transcode to a lower bitrate so it doesn't buffer.

          • +1

            @M00Cow: Great work misquoting me

            I actually said

“Local or remote makes zero difference if your client doesn’t natively support the media being played.

If the client doesn’t support the format, it will transcode no matter how much bandwidth is available.

I was addressing the incorrect comment above that locally the ability to transcode isn’t important.

        • Local or remote makes zero difference if your client doesn’t natively support the media being played.

Understand, I use Google Chromecast TV client so no transcoding for me.

          • +1

@superforever: That won’t support all formats, containers and subtitle types. You must be lucky (or selective in what you add to your library).

            • +1

@PainToad: looks like someone doesn't like the truths you are spitting out. Strange negs

    • Out of interest, what specs dictate transcoding power? Is there a good rule of thumb? (I'm in the market for something exactly like this to run Plex or Jellyfin).

      • GPU

        • +1

avoid Intel 6th gen and earlier if you intend to do transcoding.

      • a long time ago when I started playing around with Plex I spent lots of time tinkering around iGPU passthrough with these small machines running a hypervisor. transcoding works as advertised.

however these days I never use transcoding. 99% of the media consumption happens in the house and I'd want the playing device to do the decoding to maximise the quality. and if I am going away, then it's easier to just download the movie onto the device and play it offline. again, max quality and don't have to worry about pesky mobile network connection and transcoding bottlenecks.

Can anyone share their use cases and how often do they actually use transcoding?

      • Intelo N100 chipset supports hardware encoding/decoding under Plex and Jellyfin, a mini PC with that chipset will be in the price range of $200-250 including RAM, SSD and windows 11 pre-installed.

cheap jellyfin info here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCDmHljsinY

cheap n100 home server info here, unfortunately he doesn't test jellyfin - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvsg86HGcbQ

      • HD630/UHD630 (8th gen, 7xxx CPU) and above is a good rule of thumb. That'll give you decent HW transcoding abilities. Plex (and I guess Jellyfin) will have more information on specific capabilities.

That said, all my viewing devices support client-side transcode (if required)

      • If you don't need transcoding, this is a great matching. I bought the Kamrui N95 first and it fried in 2 days if Plex(could just be my experience)

Then I bought one of these 6500T and it's been solid.
If you need to transcoder, this is not for you. Go for something newer as others mentioned.

  • Just to add you can't install win11 on this machine and win10 has 1 year of support left

    • Can't you install the hacked WIN11 without TPM requirements?

      • +1

You definitely can and it works fine

        • yeah I have a similar M700 running Win11 Pro as a Hyper-V server, I think I got it from a previous deal.

  • +4

Any chance of a further discount on the HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF Desktop PC i5 8500 16GB RAM? :)

    • Are these any good and how big ate they compared to say the Beelink

      • Lenovo one? It's flatter but slightly bigger. Almost double

        • Sweet thx

  • +3

These, the HP EliteDesk and the Dell Optiplex 7070's are great Promox/virtualisation/pfsense servers - though I do prefer the Optiplex HDD caddy (the blue clips vs the ribbon).

    STH Review

With a homeserver, where most of the time machines are idle (or very low utilisation) the M710Q with an i3 can idle ~3W-4W and 5-6W on a little bit of work (like home-assistant + postgres). The 7070 is able to do it a little better.

  • How would this go for a plex server? Direct play 4k remux

    • Almost anything who be fine if your certain you’ll actually get direct play all the time (unlikely unless you’re using Infuse or Kodi with a Plex plugin).

    • +1

Direct play/client side transcode will be fine, as it's really just serving up the file. It won't be able to handle server-side transcode of 4K, though.

      • I use a shield and have gigabit internet

I wouldn’t want to do anything but direct play or the quality goes to shit

  • It is a good idea to plug this PC to TV as a monitor???

    • +1

      Good idea in what way?

What are you asking exactly? It’s hard to help if you don’t post a complete question (and a bunch of question marks).

      • +1

I am thinking to use this PC to make my non smart TV to be smart, e.g. watching youtube and drama. Thanks.

    • I wouldn't do it. Mainly because I don't need to.

This is the same specs right? So it should be able to play Velorant?

    • No, lower power chip

      • The CPU and GPU in the video are the exact same as this deal?

        • Video is i5-6400, this is i5-6400T?

  • These are great as home servers. I have an older model that runs a number of different apps flawlessly.

  • Would this type of mini PC be idle for retro gaming emulators (SNES) on a large TV? Any other recommendations?

  • +4

Sadly the m710q doesn't have the ability to add a pci riser like the m720q. I have one of the latter with a four port nic running esxi and virtualised opnsense and Ubuntu and it works like a dream

  • What is the power consumption?

    • +1

It's a T code CPU so maybe 40-45 watts flat out. Just a few watts idle.

  • Anyone use one of these with Batocera, pcsx, dolphin etc?

  • This or those amazon n100 16gb mini pc, just mainly for streaming on tv and sometimes office apps and web browsing.

    • +2

N100 is newer - but for just about everything except for decoding n100 and 6500t are pretty equivalent, so go for the cheapest.

You're looking at about $260 for a 16G/512G minipc on amazon (about $200 + GST on aliexpress).

One advantage of the lenovo - it can probably take 32G or 64G of ram whereas the N100 is limited to 16G (though some aliexpress vendors claim it can do 32G)

  • Just to say, I bought one of these from UN Tech last year. Very well packaged and works well.

  • Thought of this vs n95/n100? If not gaming just for home assitant.

    • +1

Technically N95/N100 is faster but I have found those in $200 range to be not of good quality. These Lenovo ones are solid built, I am using one for Plex server atm.

  • Obviously no one has a time machine, but these two expired deals got way more upvotes:

Must be the included WiFi and marginally faster processor.

  • +1

For those wanting 7th Gen Intel, Un-tech eBay store has 7400T/8GB/128GB/wifi dongle for $149 with code HGTSNS. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/266494128355

  • Any deals coming up for a HP EliteDesk G3 or G4?? Looking to buy..

  • Would something like this be ok for an elderly couple who want to do the very basics - email, word, photos. They’d be upgrading from a 12yr old pc that has 4gb RAM.

    • +1

Yep perfect for that BUT you'll need to install Windows 11 because the included Windows 10 only has just over a year of life left.

You will need to use Rufus to create a Windows 11 installer that bypasses the various hardware checks.
