Having a key hidden away somewhere you can access it is a great thing for when an electronic lock fails.

My keyless lock has external contacts for a spare battery. That was useless when the problem was the recess for the bolt was infinitesimally small. It worked OK for months then expansion reduced space for the bolt. When not quite fully extended, the bolt could not be be opened.

  • Thanks! Wasn't really after one but thought why not.

  • TOS says locks must be purchased via an "Eligible Participating Reseller Channel", are we sure Bunnings is included?

    1. A list of the Participating Resellers is available here: https://www.yalehome.com.au/en/lp/cashback/. To
be eligible to receive the prepaid Visa card, a Claim must relate to purchase of a Promotion Product from
one of those Participating Resellers either in-store or via that company’s website (those being the “Eligible
Participating Reseller Channels”, which for the avoidance of doubt do not include third party websites
such as Amazon marketplace, Facebook marketplace or eBay).

https://www.yalehome.com/au/en/where-to-buy shows Bunnings is not in this list? Only Dahlsens?

Bunnings comes up in the ACT under Retail Hardware. Dog of a website. "You can get Yale products almost anywhere".

Had this for 2 years, AMA if you want

    • Do you need a bridge with this to use Apple Homekit or is it ready out of the box?

      • I use home assistant sorry but it seems to be compatible as long as you have a home pod.

        • Did you need a yale zigbee module to interface, or does it connect out of the box?

    • With or without WiFi? I've heard the WiFi module drains the battery.
I'm considering the Yale Assure Lock 2, but that one is not (yet) available here.

      • Use with WiFi and battery lasts 3-6 months, usually on the latter end.

        • As comparison we have a Lockwood branded lock that’s just a rebadged Yale Assure that has no physical key option. Our is ZigBee and battery life is around 6-12 months for us as long as the bolt is aligned properly and closes cleanly.

      • can get on Amazon now for same price but is international delivery.

    • How long do the batteries last ?

3-6 months, usually on the latter end.

  • does this support Apple HomeKey?

    • +1

No. There is a Yale iOS app (and Home Kit compatibility with some Yale locks), but no HomeKey.

What's a good smart lock that works with both android & iOS? Would like :

    • kids to have access via code or fingerprint
    • set a window for the cleaner to access
    • remotely lock/unlock, preferably via Google Home, but app would be okay
    • Not made from cardboard or cardboard derivatives
    • +1

This lock. You can add codes for third parties to only use in certain windows and it fingerprints who locks/unlocks etc.

Thanks Zondor, can it be opened from inside without a key?

        • Yale Home Entrance is pretty good - look it up. Then add on a Yale Keypad and the Bridge - works like a charm.

Do u need to pay this much for a reliable smart lock?

    • +1

      This is cheap

  • Looks like the lever version is the same price at JB (with cash back) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/yale-assure-lever-keyed-l…

  • Thanks OP, this seams to be dead bolt, any option for latch?

Link to the Yale catalogue for compatibility - https://www.yalehome.com/au/en/documents/catalogue-centre/sm…

Page 28 shows you need to get more modules to get HomeKit to work out of the box. I was keen on one but don’t know if I want to keep adding more and more hubs.

    • Yeah sounds like you need the bridge for Google Assistant and for the remote lock/unlock to work via the app also?

      • +1

I’ve got an older version of this I think? And it’s a pain in the rear. The wifi bridge needs 2.4ghz network so I had to split the channels in my router just for this. It now works with HomeKit but it’s a pretty bad experience via the Home app, not too bad via the Yale app directly.

    • If you only want HomeKit you can just use the module on page 25-26. Only need the bridge/hub if you want HomeKit as well as other ecosystems.

  • HomeKit?

  • Yale assure lock 2 for the same price on Amazon but international delivery?.

Any thoughts on Assure lock 2 vs this one?. Noted that bunnings has now gone back up to $395

  • From Tom's Yale Assure Lock 2 review
On the inside, the Assure Lock 2 is about 30% smaller than the original, and also uses interchangeable modules if you want to connect it to Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave — and yes, Matter, which is coming soon.
