Western Digital WD SN740 2TB Gen 4x4 M.2 2230 NVMe SSD $209.99 + $5 Shipping @ Silicon Centre AU

150

One of the only TLC 2TB 2230 SSDs on the market.

Even the Sabrent Rocket Q4 advertises their 2230 SSDs as TLC, however in the fine print the 2TB model is QLC.

Only 10 in stock, I have never purchased from these guys before.

The pricing seems too good to be true.

All other 2TB models on the market are around ~$310

Steamdeck / Steamdeck OLED stock SSD are TLC SSDs.

The Steamdeck was designed with TLC SSDs in mind.

The performance drop of QLC SSDs are quite large when nearly full or out of available cache or steamdeck dram etc. (Pretty much all 2230 sized SSDs are DRAMless and rely on motherboard.)

EDIT: Even though this is an OEM product, you can check if its legit through "https://support-en.wd.com/app/warrantystatus"
Used someone's elses serial number from reddit: 22364Y440235 Country as United States.

Will update once I receive mine.

  • Can this be installed into Steam Deck OLED?

    • +1

Yes, but as I stated above, unsure about this site and reputation, they have posted on OzBargain before though.

I’ve done my two cents of digging and it seems that they accept PayPal so that’s a little bit of relief

  • This is OEM version not for retail. If anything happens, good luck…

    • Use PayPal

Last I checked WD manufacturers warranty period is minimum 1 year (but I have heard depending on product can go up to 5 years).

PayPal buyer protection I believe only goes for up to 180 days, not even the minimum WD manufacturers warranty.

Not being a retail version I think your manufacturers warranty may be at risk

Luckily i'm using a Combank Yello Platinum debit card, allows better protection than paypal.

    • I'm more worried about if its legit it or not.

Seems like they can be using a WD warranty checker.

    I bought a WD SN850X 4tb for $314 on Amazon.com.au using an Amazon voucher and Amazon 5 discount Arrived today….And a fortnight ago 2 x Team Cardea Z44o Pro for$ 220
Caveat emptor But also bought a QNAP TS-464-8G Amazon for $721 And today QNAP Aus Store has it for $655 But Amazon came with N5105 processor, and rather tan no-upgradeable ram, I installed 16 Gb (x2 8 Gb Crucial DDR4 3200) and removed the QNAP provided Transcend DDR4 2400 8Gb ram

      Cool.

    • The $655 model in the QNAP store is the 2-bay model (TS-264-8G)

OMG Thx for letting us know Nothing worse than over-paying! Adonai Melech HaÓlam aka Doxo O Theos

  • i bought one of these on aliexpress for 180(tax and shipping) on sale last month, it was to replace the 512gb ssd in my flow x13. The ssd passed the capacity test and read properly as a sn740 but checking the serial number on the WD website said it was out of limited hardware warranty.

    • Change country to USA or China and it will show warranty.

      • It says "out of limited warranty", changing the country to USA or Mainland China doesn't help. I might as well just try to return the aliexpress one and purchase this one if there is warranty

        • I wouldn't worry about it, as long as it legit tbh, they obviously have the serial number in their system.

The warranty date just checks what date it was made/sold.

I would run tests to make sure its the correct speed and storage size to be sure.

          • @jerjergege: I checked the warranty when i first bought it and made a support incident for the updated warranty, as prompted after attempting to register it. It's been a week since then and haven't received any response, but as it is the holidays they'd be quite busy. Hopefully as the warranty status returned "NO LIMITED WARRANTY" (which shouldn't be possible as the ssd hasn't be out yet for 5 years) they'd update it.

            • @toadbload: Just got a reply from WD, the warranty has been updated till December 2028

  • Silicon Centre is @Kazusa's store so you should be OK with warranty and support

You are paying 15% extra for the local invoice and support which is not extreme

  • assuming that the ebay seller silicon centre and the site are the same people(which i don't really see any reason they are not), the ssd on the ebay store is cheaper if the discount code HGTSNS is applied with free shipping. So it'd be $199.99 with the discount

  • These are much cheaper on Aliexpress if you’re up for doing that. I’ve bought three times off Ali without issue. My 2TB sn740 I got for $165
