Is this worth the extra over Q revo?

Q7 max+ is also on sale for $1,099

    https://www.davidjones.com/product/roborock-q7-max-plus-robo…

    • +2

In some ways Revo is better. The mop cleaning mechanism is simpler (less moving parts) and the approach to mopping (spinning pads) feels like it’s going to be roborocks preferred approach going forward ie it’s better although tests online show them as being fairly equal in mopping performance.

Advantage of s8 pro ultra is the better obstacle avoidance. So if you have kids that leave lots laying around and don’t want to have to deal with obstruction errors then the s8 may be the way to go.

      • No, thats Q7 Max

Q Revo is a different model

  • +33

for that price, it should also clean my oven and bathrooms.

    • +1

Yes I agree but can't justify buy one at that price.

    • It does.

    • No, for that price it should be able to drop my kids off at school

  • For this price the s7 max ultra at 1599 is a better deal it pretty much had the same functionality

    • +2

      agree, link?

    • Where is s7 max ultra on sale?

    • Where are you seeing the S7 Max Ultra at that price? I saw that only as a Black Friday deal that’s no longer available.

    • Got the S7 Max Ultra and honestly it surprised me by how good it is. Robo vacuums have come a long way since the mid naughties.

Not having a camera does mean that it often runs over shoes left around the house but added privacy bonus. IIRC we also got it for $1,599 at Costco on Black Friday.

I went with Dreame ultra L20 and no regrets.. if you have hard flooring, the mops are amazing. Plenty of other features too.

    • thanks for your insight. i'm on the fence between them.

    • +1

So did we and the support has been great, it looks better in the laundry unless you like the display of the handles for the water.
We have had it for about two weeks now. Happy to write up a review on it if people are interested

      • +1

        Please do

  • IMO not worth it even at the $2k price point knowing how much they mark these items up.

    • +1

honestly, cost price is not too far from $2000.

      • +1

The domestic version g20 in China only sells for 5000rmb or around 1000aud. Maybe its like steam pricing lol.

      • +5

Cost for JB maybe, but that would almost certainly be an inflated cost to JB as well, guided by the significant discounts 1 year from release as given by their previous models.

Given the technological advances are incremental from year to year, i would say the previous year's model would be a significant bargain. The S7 max ultra was available in november for $1650 on eBay through selwise for a bit of time, for example. (granted, it's no longer possible to get the previous year's model).

But to each their own, and I admit this same principle can be applied to any piece of consumer item, many of which I probably fall the same victim to. That's why I said IMO on this particular model and product.

        • +1

i agree, i should have clarified, i meant compared to the current pricing here in australia for our retailers, this is pretty close to that price.

      • i managed to pick this unit up for 1950 from jb, said it was close to cost

        • +1

How did you manage that price?

          • @neezy: had a really good sales guy help me out, buy all my stuff through him.

  • +5

For this price it better climb my stairs and clean upstairs and downstairs

  • -1

Will get this upstairs downstairs multi-floor vacuum cleaner in February 2024, The Ascender for US$899

    • Interesting..

      Daleks eat your hearts out.

    • I welcome our new overlords.

A 12-month warranty on a $2000 product with manufacturer warranty loopholes big enough to drive a robot cleaning bus through.

    AUSTRALIA LIMITED WARRANTY

This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship of products manufactured, sold or certified by Roborock Technology (Australia) Pty Ltd which were purchased and used in Australia.

The warranty covered 12 months from the date of purchase of the product (24 months for S7maxv Ultra, S8 Plus, S8 Pro Ultra, Q Revo).

Don't forget about Australian Consumer Laws, which always trump a manufactures warranty. I'd expect you could argue a repair for a number of years, at the very least, given the price point of this item, and the fact it must last a period of time that is comparable to the price paid.

      • Not much confidence in their product which carries such a big-ticket price if they are only giving a 12 months warranty.

      • Their go to response is to blame improper use by user

    • +4

There’s nothing too unreasonable in those terms.

That said, I’ve dealt with roborock before for warranty and found them hopeless. Not much better than dealing with aliexpress sellers.

The good news is that spare parts are abundant on aliexpress and these vacuums are entirely self reparable. Every part is replaceable. Ive replaced batteries, LDS motors and wheel/motors.

After ownership of 3 roborocks, IMHO the best approach is
      A) self repair or
      B) use ACL at your retailer and ignore roborock

    • +1

I purchased pre Xmas from Roborock direct. Due to late dispatch they offered a 3rd year of warranty and then due to another delay they offered full refund and cancel order or 200 refund and same order. Service has been very good (direct and apologetic), however am still waiting on my device aha.

    • +1

Fair wear and tear and cosmetic damage??? I thought wear and tear should be covered by warranty. Otherwise this point can get tricky.

  • A bit tempted. My s5 Max seems to be on the way out - at least the battery.

Have a Labrador so plenty to vacuum, and I wouldn't mind a better mopping feature as the s5 is rubbish in that area.

    • +2

I went from s5 max to s8 pro, it’s still a crap mop haha

      • +1

Thanks! You've just saved me $2k!

      • +1

A crap mop?! All online reviews seem to indicate the opposite, and have the S8 Pro as one of the best mopping robots on the market. What’s it not doing for you?

        • I ran it a few times, and it failed to clean marks and bits of wet food off the floor. I ran a cloth over the same bits and had more success.

    • I just replaced the battery on an S5. Took all of 5 minutes and $60 for the new battery.

      • I might try that. Takes 3 stages to do the house now and it used to take 1 (or just over 1 charge)

      • I’m considering whether I should get a genuine Roborock one (around $120) and a generic one ($70ish).l for my S5 Max too…. What’s your thought on your new battery? I’m aware normally you won’t be able to tell when the battery is new, but is it worth to cheap out? Mind letting us know which one you bought? Thanks!

        • Amazon one, matched the product number. Too early to tell whether it'll hold up. But it's doing the job for now.

    • I have an S5 as well, and it runs pretty well. I tried one of these that my neighbour had purchased to see if the added cost was worth it I ended up going on aliexpress and buying new parts (roller, swirling brush etc…) for the s5 to make it feel new. If your battery is on the out see if there are replacement batteries on aliexpress.

Christ almighty, $2300 for a vacuum cleaner.

    • U could get in a cleaner with added benefits for that price Ha Ha.

      • Long-term vs short-term… Robot vacuum operates 24/7 for at least 5 years - that trumps momentary gratification.

      • Sex joke ahahaha

  • What is the advantage of this compared to something like the TP Link RV30 from JB for $499? (Obvs there is the cleaning station but you can get that in RV30 for $799 too)

I can't see the advantage of spending 2.2k clearly but maybe I'm missing something

  • -1

For this price. It better clean my cat as well.

  • Is this better than the top of the line Roomba? Looks like the J9+ is $1,999?

    • +1

I personally got the top of the line Roomba (J9+ combo) from Qantas Marketplace for $1750. Reviews suggest the cleaning properties are on par, if not better than all the other robot vacs including the S8 Pro max. I'm never at home, so I personally don't care too much about how long it takes or noise. And I also don't care about self drying/cleaning mop because long term reviews of the self cleaning apparatuses show that the modules get quite dirty themselves. So I'd just remove and wash the mop myself in the washing machine. That, and the fact that it's significantly cheaper (even for a newly released model) made it a no brainer.

      • If you’re never at home why do you need to vacuum?

        • It was an exaggeration. Basically I’m out for work at least 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Being home on some weekends and at nights is enough for me to want to come home to a clean and tidy house to declutter from work.

        • Try to wipe the top of your cabinet with your barehand and you will know why….

          • -2

@bagachin: Sure, but if you are literally never there why does it matter if the dust is piled up 1 metre high? If you're never there, it's basically an abandoned building and you don't see people going around vacuuming abandoned buildings

            • @illusion99: Great argument you’ve got going on there. I’m impressed

              • @bennybaubles: Details matter. One time I saw a suspect get nailed in court because he sent a message saying '100 cops will be coming for us if we get busted'. His defence was that he thought his crime was minor and victimless and the prosecutor kept saying 'if you thought it was minor, why did you think 100 cops would respond to a minor crime'. The suspect tried to say he was exagerrating but the prosector basically made him look like a liar. He got found guilty in the end.

  • Thanks OP, bought one but cashrewards hasn’t tracked yet.

Why would you not opt for that deal instead? I don’t understand why this deal gets more votes when it’s worse?

    • Because OP had price after cashback (10% cashback from Cashrewards) in title which was since removed from the title as it went against title guidelines

  • This was $200 cheaper with cashback?

  • +2

I get this is a ridiculous price for a robot vacuum but I have young kids so I went with the S8 Ultra and honestly it's been such a game changer with keeping our home clean. I've had mine for over a year, have been maintaining it regularly, and it still feels like new.

  • +2

At this stage this should be classified as last gen as Dreame and Ecovacs have released far superior vacs. $2.3k is too expensive for it.

  • +2

'For this price'… OZBargainers should be coming up with better jokes

  • How does it compare with the Dreame L20 Ultra

    https://dreame.com.au/products/dreame-l20-ultra-robot-vacuum…

    • I think it's the first time roborock isn't standing on the podium on its own. The competition has caught up really well. I feel like the l20 with mop arms gives a better mopping but read some comments that the a8 cleans shaggy pile rugs a little better

      • I hope the emerging competition was cheaper, but its even more dearer.

  • Standard price with a quick google search…

  • This is my first and only robot vacuum. But exceeded all expectations.
    Mops, vacuums, it’s great.

I purchased mine from Reebelo for $1949.
(It’s a factory second) but does the job well and roborock still honoured it for a 2 year warranty when I registered it.

Expensive for what it is, but the way I justify it is if you were to pay for a cleaner once a week, it would pay itself off in 10 weeks and yet it does this stuff daily.

    Hope this helps someone.

    • +3

That's not exactly an apples vs apples comparison - and my flesh and blood cleaner doesn't charge me $200 per visit, the money I give her though does help feed her kids.

A cleaner once a week is going to do an infinitely better job than your robo-cleaner, unless your robot can clean showers, toilets, microwaves and ovens as well?

So for $2K (and on-going maintenance costs) you still have to roll up your sleeves and do all the other stuff anyway.

It's not that I'm totally against robot cleaners but $2K for one is ridiculous for what they can do, prices overall need to drop significantly.

  • Has anyone got their cashback yet? I am having to contest it with CashRewards. I should’ve taken a screenshot of the David Jones website showing it as discounted!
