    this or baofeng uv5r?

    • +2

      no, quansheng uv-k5

      • Got a quansheng recently and it makes an awesome police scanner with the egzumer firmware!

    • Baofeng probably better value, but complicated and my understanding is that they are technically illegal.

      • Yea, illegal without ham licence.

Illegal but it's very handy being able to program them to UHF and Marine VHF frequencies, I have a UV-82 for this reason.. (I boat, hike, ride remote areas a lot… UHF + VHF doubles the emergency channels and repeaters I can access while roaming, and the regular marine weather forecasts transmitted on VHF are damn handy at times)

          • @FLICKIT: I only put UHF on mine, good idea re VHF, thanks!

          • @FLICKIT: What UV-82 has over 5R?

            • @nuker: I bought the UV82 near on 6 years ago so cant really remember all the details, from memory it was slightly higher power, dual channel, slightly bigger battery, and I think the weather resistance was a little better… At the time it was under $30aud on ebay so cost wasn't a factor… At the end of the day I think they're much the same…

Illegal even with a ham license if using it outside ham frequencies.

    • Also wanting to know.. šŸ˜…

"so our wives won't catch us gayming"

  • Amazon price is $169

  • Are these good for zombie apocalypse?

    • +1

No. You want at least a Motorola XTS5000 with the AES 256bit encryption board fitted.
But preferably a Motorola APX8000 so you can listen to emergency services as well.

      • 4k is a bit pricy for me.

        • 4k is nothing if you're able to morse code memes when everyone can't get on the socials.. šŸ¤£

        • Can pickup a XTS5k for $300 programmed with UHF CB - they are a great radio.
