200

An elegant and secure password manager for Mac and iOS.

Steps to unlock the free IAP:
Open the App, click on 3 dots on the upper right corner, click Store and the option of purchasing Editing + Sharing for $0 is there.

Description from the app:

Secrets is an app for storing all of your passwords and anything else you want to keep … secret!

There are lots of things in our daily lives that we don't want other people to know like credit card details, bank details, and of course, passwords. Secrets can protect all of those things and more in an app that's easy to use but still secured by strong encryption and advanced sync technology.

Because we think that your secrets should be yours and yours alone, your passwords and information are never synced with our servers. If you choose to sync your information between devices it will be encrypted and securely saved in iCloud. Secrets uses strong 256-bit encryption and locks your information behind biometric (Face ID or Touch ID) and alphanumeric (a strong and unique passphrase) protection.

Despite that, Secrets is full of features that you're going to love using and will make using your passwords and other information a breeze.

FEATURES INCLUDE:

  • Store all of your passwords, credit cards, bank details, and other information so that it's always there When you need it.
  • Create reate new, secure, and private passwords for new apps and services. No more trying to come up with a unique password yourself.
  • Generate one-time passcodes for apps and services that offer two-factor authentication.
  • Get all of your passwords and information into
Secrets with ease — import from Password, LastPass, and other popular services or import using a CSV file.
  • Take your passwords with you. Secrets supports iCloud syncing so your information is always available and up-to-date.
  • Access your passwords when you need them - Secrets for iPhone and iPad securely integrates with browsers on Windows and Linux so your passwords are never more than a few taps away.
  • Use password AutoFill to quickly enter usernames and passwords on your Apple devices.

PRIVATE AND SECURE

We don't have access to your information, including usernames and passwords. Not even in encrypted form!
Synced information doesn't use our servers and nothing leaves your device or iCloud (when syncing is enabled).
Information is stored using modern cryptographic algorithms and 256-bit encryption.
Use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock Secrets or set up a strong passphrase — or both! You can even use your Apple Watch to unlock Secrets on the Mac.
Automatic locking ensures that Secrets keeps all of your information locked away even if your phone/ computer is stolen.

PRICING

Secrets is a free download and there are one-time in-app purchases available to unlock additional features.

  • Create, edit, delete, and import items after a 7-day free trial.
  • Unlock shared vaults so you can invite someone else to access your saved items.
  • A bundle that includes both in-app purchases for a single payment.

Alternatively, Secrets is also available as a monthly or yearly subscription.
Whether you opt for a one-time purchase or a subscription, it will be valid on all platforms: iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

Not sure about this one… 2 ratings… “here, manage all my private data for me”

    • +10

Exact same thoughts… If you're looking for a free PW manager, check out Bitwarden

      • Doesn’t bitWarden utilise servers to store your data? Rather not another Lastpass debacle. Well unless you’re self hosting the server.

        • +3

Most do? I'd rather trust Bitwarden than self host and run the risk of losing everything

          • @ldd-mn: You always can get backups

  • +3

    Bitwarden

    It just works.

    And tell 'em the cost…

    • Only if you’re self hosting the server me thinks.

      • free 2 person account using Bitwarden server

Seems it's a trend that's being picked up on OzB - apps that no one ever heard of, and nobody would ever buy at their "regular" price of $99. But "luckily" it's not $99 at the moment, so it's a bargain.

Imagine if the app developer put a $499 tag on it - as wild as $99, but makes even a bigger bargain!

On the bright side, at least this developer doesn’t appear to be based in China, Russia, etc.

  • +9

There are already well known, great and cross-platform options.(That are free)
    Self-hosting: bit-warden
    Cloud: Firefox/keychain

Thanks OP. I downloaded it, paid $0 for editing and sharing, and then went back to LastPass….

From a bad product that will be compromised to a bad product that already was compromised

  • +2

So Keychain, but giving another third party access to your sensitive information?? 🤔

  • +3

This is one free deal that I am not interested.

  • Am I being super unsafe using iOS native password manager or what?

    • +1

Yes. If someone knows your unlock passcode and has access to your phone they can do a lot more than you think.

I use 1Password as my password manager.

    • +1

No, you are safer than many others. Just create a backup database using KeepassXC.org app and store somewhere safe.

  • +4

My thoughts is download now for free and wait until there are more reviews before deciding to use it. Worse case is I just delete it.

    • +1

      Exactly what I’m doing.

  • +6

Sounds like the bargain is for the app owner. All your passwords for $0

  • I have actually been using Secrets4 for a while and quite like it. Syncs through iCloud, so should be secure, and the regular price of $99 is on par with many other password managers (though yes, there also some free options, but I liked none of them).

  • Buy now think later

  • +1

Why would I use this when apple has its own keychain password manager for ios and MaC. Am I missing something?

    • That’s what I thought

  • +1

KeePassXC for macOS and keepassium for iOS is free and does the job well and is free. Apple inbuilt password manager is very good. Coming from the last pass hack, I’d never trust a 3rd party to manage store my passwords again.

  • +1

One should never trust an external program/service to save all their passwords without proper validations. Unless it is opensource and there is sufficient people working on/using it, you are never sure what happens to your saved passwords. OP don't mean to discredit your work. However, passwords are too important to be saved even in the reputed proprietary password managers.

Even, using the browser passwords are inherently insecure. Once you log in to the system, revealing your passwords by a malware is very easy. You can see a program here. Readline Stealer is a popular malware that targeted browser based password stealing. Given that many people save their passwords in the browser, most malware will target them.

Saving in the keychain is simllar. Once your login credentials to your phone is compromised your passwords are compromised.

    Two free options are below.
    1. If you want a out-of-the-box cloud syncing option Bitwarden. This is a free and opensource software, meaning it is guaranteed that there are no backdoors. For TOTP (2FA) you have to pay the subscription. This is cross platform and available in all mobile OS's as well.
    2. If you want a local option keepassxc. This option is more secure as you're guaranteed that it doesn't leave your computer. Further, you can add another layer of security by adding a key file. Once you do this, even if someone gets to know the password, they cannot unlock it without the "key file". And if you really want to get the cloud syncing you can save the vault in your favourite cloud platform. (Onedrive, dropbox etc.) Software is 100% free and corss platforms. For mobile deivces, there are free clients aviallbe.

    • KeePassXC (Linux, macOS and Windows)
    • KeePassDX, KeePass2Android, KeePassDroid, and KeepassA (Android)
    • KeePassium (for iOS)
    • AuthPass (Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows and web)
    • KeeWeb (macOS, Linux, Windows, HTML and web)
    • If and if you do not trust your cloud providers, feel free to encrypt before sending off to the cloud using this FOSS Crytomator.

      • I have a bad experience with Cryptomator. I used to encrypt files using cryptomater, and one day the app failed to decrypt my files despite the password being correct. I can’t remember the error, but I did through research and still couldn’t find a solution. So if you are using it, suggest that you have an unencrypted local backup somewhere.

        I currently use veracrypt.

For those that think the Apple Keychain is safe. Here’s how simple it is if someone knows your unlock passcode to do some real damage.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUYODQB_2wQ

In iOS 17.3 Apple is including a new feature called Stolen Device Protection feature to block this.

    • Which is exactly why I don't use Apple Passwords keychain!

Having all Apple devices keychain works seamlessly, but even with just the Mac passcode anyone can access all my passwords.

I bought Secrets earlier this year. The UI and dev are nice and obviously I chose to trust him. The passwords are encrypted on Apple iCloud keychain, not the devs server.

There is always a risk with single indie devs the app could be abandoned, slow to update, or worse. While Secrets is free, you will invest time adding your data and to grok. Caveat emptor.
