  • Just this enough to put in sun and charge the devices or does it need any convertors or any other devices to consume the energy ?

    • +5

No, you would need a charge controller and a battery

You can buy foldable ones that come with all your usual USB outputs and a 12V output as well - these rigid panels are to be permanently installed somewhere

  • +2

Spend the money on victron Solar ccontroller and pick up ex house Solar panel for almost nothing better value

    • Plan on building a small system with that in mind for a shed to power my workshop.

  • What metric is used to measure efficiency? I.e how can I compare this to other panels effectively?

    • +9

The average panel has an efficiency between 17% to 22%. To understand if the seller is telling the truth: convert width and length to metres. Find the surface area (w x l) then multiply by 1000 (average irradiance of the sun per square metre at sea level) then by 17% (assumed solar panel efficiency). If the final numer is close to the advertised power, in this case 91W then you should be confident your going to get what you paid for.

If it's totally different, dont buy.

      • That is super helpful, thank you so much for sharing!

Probably better than my current panel and I should buy, but fck them for not having metric measurements. I don't have time to convert inchworms.

  • can these charge car battery directly(im thinking car battery is 12v)? a controller is still needed?

    • correct, change controller pretty much required for everything.

  • i've been using these during black out in SEQ. We didnt have power for 2 days. I connected the solar panel into the Allpower 600w and its run power into my Brass Monkey 50l. On clear blue sky, the solar panel manage to power the 50l fridge without draw any power from Allpower station. It does lose efficiency when a cloud came.

Ideal seems good if you live near a 4wd supercentre there is this option if you want a bigger panel For slightly more money

  • It shows $134 for me.

    • $139.99 here. Was previously $110.49 before 20% discount though. Previously also had a boxing day sale logo, so I'd say that sale is over and back to the regular pre-sale price. Still 20% off though.

    How is 100W for $88.39 a deal?

    • Unfortunately you would be hard pressed to find decent brand cheaper..
